Internal PSP Bluetooth Mod (Proof of Concept)

greg | October 21, 2007

Is there anything these guys can’t do? From the genius minds over at Acidmods, who, to date, have brought us countless hardware modifications, is jair2k4’s latest — an internal PSP bluetooth mod. Simply proving the concept is possible, we may see some interesting homebrew developments using bluetooth in the near future.

Cheers jair2k4. Amazing work, all you guys!

Thats cool, but what the PSP needs is an internal tilt sensor mod. Since noone has made one, I guess the analog connection points are covered… I mean shit, they made a 360 tild sensor mod.

Most mobile phones support bluetooth… So it would be cool to make it “talk” to a jar app installed on the phone. Like controlling your PSP and shit.

If you could stream back and forth from your PSP to your phone, you could use the memory stick for storage.

Bluetooth is slow, storage would be useless with big files! ;)

Connect a wiimote to the PSP. Not the full wiimote , but just the accelarator and board the possibilities are endless

1st and foremost, I’d like to congratulate jair2k4’s latest find.
Although, in my experience with bluetooth (m-fone, wireless speakers, headsets, etc…) the quality is REALLY poor. Almost analog like sound is produced at best. It also seems to be LOTS of static during playback on music on the speaker end side of the bluetooth wiseless device(s).
But I do give props to the Engunuity/uniqueness of this mod. But as far as I understand the mechanics of the mods (not that I’ve personally done this), the ppl that thinks that this mod would enable file transfers or alike is just wishful thinking at this point.
The mod is ONLY connected and designed to act as a conduit for the audio stream coming from the speakers to be redirected to the bluetooth device and its host(s). So THERE IS NO WAY this mod will be able (at it’s current settings) to produce them results.
But I do recognize it’s originality. and other ppl might find this mod really useful/uber cool/etc and thats what matters.
maybe with a different bluetooth (uber small ones) so theres no need to remove the UMD drive no more, I might try this myself. but until then. I’ll just keep an eye out cos if the u guys go at this the right way, this mod might be just what the psp modders out there might invent as a universal mod that everybody will be doing in the near future. Good luck and keep it up dudes…

PS: I would like to see a more neater end result in the next POC video.
Cos i personally would hate my PSP to have dangly wires just for the sake of wireless audio streams.

And just an thought, I have this FM transmitter (obtained on my local game store) that enables my PSP’s sound (via the mini-jack port/headphone socket) to be revieved through the radio on my car, portable radio or any FM recievers.
Isn’t the result the same? (quality + end result wise…)
I use mine when I’m on my car and also with my uber small FM reciever (local elect. store) with an amplified speaker (almost sounds near CD/ 128kbps mp3 on playback) and it doesn’t require any HW mods.

Sick song, whats the name of the song :P a must download, overall, wicked stuff man , and yeah an FM transmitter is kinda the same, although what i find weird is, bluetooth covers almost a wide range of 50m? depends on the one you use, and an FM transmitter would be only for 8m so which sucks! if only surround sound systems had blue tooth receivers so it would be cool to play monster hunter 2+bluetooth mod+surround sound :P! WICKED!

i think one of the many next mods for the psp would to beable use the psp’s wireless card, and connect it to your computer and use the psps wlan to connect to the internet, i know it would be kinda slow but whatever

um.. lol actually. whats the deal? he connected a bluetooth transmitter to a 3.5 audio jack. you can use it for music only, its not like you could use the bluetooth itself. this is the same thing as connecting headphones to a psp without using the 3.5 plug outside! hurray for you! i have logitech freepulse, and it would be soo easy to make this thing. wtf is he claiming? it’s like moding a toaster to be wireless (add batteries), this is no news. make a real internal bluetooth mod that we could use to connect to our phones or smth..
