Despertar Cementerio (Universal Unbricker) v3 Released

greg | October 5, 2007

Dark_AleX has released Despertar Cementerio v3, or you may know it as the universal PSP unbricker for both fat and slim models.

v3 changes:

  • Coded a display driver that supports the psp slim screen in the mixed 1.50/3.40 kernel.
  • The M33 installation will install 3.71 M33-2, not 3.71 M33

Installation and everything else you should know can be found in readme.txt. Fetch the necessary Sony firmware updates here.

I found an easier way.

1. install 3.71 m33
2. go to theme settings in XMB
2. press X to change theme, the blue screen will be displayed.
3. press O to recover settings
4. enjoy 3.71 M33!

Okay, I’m a bit of a n00b, so bear with me. One question: I’m assuming this is just to unbrick a Slim if it’s been bricked after using a Pandora? I just got a slim and really want to downgrade it/get CFW. And what exactly is 3.71 M33-2? Is it a CFW, and one that functions like any other CFW? Is this the only CFW you can use with the slim? Okay, sorry, that turned into more questions than one. Thanks.

Comment by bambam
2007-10-05 15:42:04

if u use the pandora on the slim using this download it will install cfw 3.71 m33 update2. your slim doesnt need to be bricked to do this.

Well, according to the readme file, it gives directions for putting the folder in the GAME directory if you need to make a Pandora MS. But what if you just want the firmware?

Comment by lloyd
2007-10-05 21:39:58

you need to have custom firmware to upgrade to another custom firmware, and you can get the noob-proof installer from the forums, you don’t need to do this, and i wouldn’t suggest it, it should work theoretically but why not just do it the easy way and it is a much safer way to do it

I am very curious if Dark Alex has any plans to do anything for the PS3. If anyone can do it he should be able to figure it out. If he needs my help I’d be willing to try things on my PS3. It’s still at version 1.02 and its from the original Japan release.

This is great!!! I just have a question if anyone can give me an answer. On the slim will this lets say when sony comes out with higher firmwire work like the phat and just reinstall 3.71 (basically downgrade) into the psp. I know on the phat u can be on any firmware and it just rights it over. I just want to make sure it works the same way on the slim as it does on the phat.

Sweet. I set this up on my old Pandora MemStick and confirmed it works. Loaded 3.71M33-2 onto a brand-new out-of-box Darth Vader ceramic White PSP-Slim (had to talk the salesgirl into letting it go early).

The new screen driver shows the install text onscreen and everything on my Vader slim!

Okay, so just to make sure I do this right, you do the whole Pandora thing and get custom firmware of any kind (?) and then you can download this file and upgrade it, and this can also work when the PSP is bricked? But again, the directions say to copy the folder in the file to the GAME directory if you need to make a MS, but what if you just want to upgrade? It didn’t seem to explain that.

just remember so u wont freak out after u install 3.71 m33-2 with ur new pandora stuff on slim or fat the psp will shutdown then open the recovery menu by holding R+Power Button and go Advanced and Format flash1 and reset setting , done ur psp slim of fat will be in 3.71 m33-2

2007-10-08 00:38:46

This is weird, i got it to install and everything, everything worked perfectly, I installed it on both of my psp. 1st worked but had that format thing, n then themes dont work. 2nd psp (orginally 3.71 M33-2) I use the pandora battery on it just for the heck of it, then it would also freeze at the xmb, so i format flash 1 again. But this time it gave me a black screen, with blacklight on. Tried removing memory card, battery, n access recovery mode. None of those worked. Tried the battery again, it loads up n freezes at formating flash 0… tried it over n over again. So i jsut use V1 of the release n im back on 1.50 (n now 3.71 M33 -2). Strange though.

Comment by Claudiu
2007-10-08 03:52:18

are u using a pandora battery as a main ? then dont forget to use ur original mem stick with the moddified msipl that lets u use the pandora as a normal battery , and after the format flash and reset stuff u should get that blue screen error if u wont get that and u can get in the xmb themes and wallapers wont work reformat again or until u get the bluescreen after that ur good to go i bricked my psp 100 times i think when i didnt knew how to flash themes on it and 2day i just fully bricked the psp that means no recovery menu no nothing just black screen thank god to DA for the pandora

Comment by asdq
2007-10-10 21:51:33

I formatflash 0 through recovery mode, after that i got a black screen, i was using the orginal battery/power adapter when i was formating flash 0, but it just keep giving me a black screen no matter how i turned it on, so i load up the pandora battery, and the memory stick, i tried to downgrade again, but it freezes at formating flash0 when i run the pandora battery, but it worked when i was running V1 of the pandora’s battery.

Not sure about there being a problem with 3.71 since I haven’t upgraded yet, however, I have resolved this issue on on 3.52-M33-4 by holding the right trigger once the initial PSX screen loads, then selecting “original”. It should load after that.
