eyePSP — Control your PSP with a Laser — Updated Demo!
greg | October 3, 2007
The initial eyePSP demo certainly gave the homebrew scene a pleasant little buzz. Today califrag returns with an updated demo showing off the four different control methods for simple “sprite movement.”
Control methods:
- follow: the sprite follows the cursor position
- mimic: the sprite mimics the cursor movement
- gestures: the sprite moves based on directional gestures by cursor movement
- direct: a screen-map acts as a D-Pad and allows direct movement of the sprite
I like the idea of a rail shooter and would probably think it would be nice to incorporate gestures for things like moving in and out of cover, ducking, standing, reloading. Aiming would be controlled by the cursor placement. For example, you can point cursor at the player then gesture: down to duck, left or right to lean in or out of cover, or up to stand up. To shoot the enemies, point the cursor at an enemy and let go of the laser to shoot. The demo tracks when the laser is on and off by means of a variable so it is easy to detect “shooting”.
*agreeably nods* Awesome idea! Mad props califrag.

Thats really cool can imagine the possibilities
kewl, is the lazer a standard something you can pick up at shop or was it custom built?
Its not just a laser, It’s a frick’n WICKED Laser!!!
*moves around*
:D
I really love this, just imagine the possibilities!
LIMITLESS!!
This makes me want to buy a pspcamera.
if you use one of those cool frick’n WICKED lasers it could burn, scorch, or mutalate the screen! the wicked lasers are good as a light saber (star wars), eye surgery, or writing your name on the moon! not frying your psp screen
it is a regular laser pointer like what you can get at the store
i dont have a lazer :(
haha thats kool
Thats so cool it made my nipples hard
holy crap, thats almost worth splashing out on a chotto shot
thats crazy, you should work that type of thing in with a ds emu, if they can figure out how to make a decent speeded one
This could be handy if there ever exist an NDS Emulator for PSP.
Your right this with a DS emeluator would be great
love this idea shame my laser pointer is a modded 120mw green now its 200mw ;] it would kill the camera. its the WII for the PSP
I’m imagining a maze-like homebrew game where you point the laser where you want to go and where the corridors become narrower and narrower by each level.
Or just target practice ! Remember the old GunMan game on NES ? Or Clay Shooting / Duck Hunt ? That’d be awesome.
i would love to see this on a emu, it would also be good for a on-screen keyboard
What a retarded idea…
You’re a tool
You’re also a FOOL!
how did sony not pick this idea up, especially with the wii and nds already great controles.
psp can do a lot better againest ds if sony would add more ideas from the homebrew as it did with the official themes thing.
it’s simple, the screen is just too small for that sort of stuff. But some sort of a light pen so it could be used as a tablet for example would be handy.
all sony has to do is make the PS-PHONE dual and flip screen with a built in camera & mic for conference calls! then you get a ds emulator and automatic screen protection.
Yeas and I got a spare £1,000 on me, that’s a stupid idea. A great way for them to go bust.
WOW! okay sony isn’t like your mom they won’t go bust on 1 thing sonys got the money, more than what you will see! if you have a open mind the ps-phone would be a sick invention the only phone you could see who you talking to
It’s called ” 3G ” moron. There ARE phones in this beautiful world that have 2 cameras, one on the back and another pointed at your ugly face !
The new PSP shouldn’t have been a slim in my opinion. I think Sony should’ve totally revamped the new PSP. Instead of “PSP Slim” they could have called it something else.
Although it’d be very hard to do a phone, that’d be tight, and if not, make it all flip screen with wireless internet access and a built in keyboard and shit.
Other than that, this idea is gay.
But then the “revamped” PSP would be allot more expensive. Plus the original design with that nice screen looked good anyway.
no not a build in key board, have it accessable on the touch screen. instead of having to use a wireless network the ps-phone can use its own internet. IMAGINE the ps-phone the screen would be protected by the other screen, NO MORE SCRATCHES EVER! imagine the first phone EVER you can look at the other person (your g/f could do a strip tease 4 me), see people even overseas! it might be bit pricey, but hell that would be worth it
“imagine the first phone EVER you can look at the other person”
Where have you been living? Been done 2years ago dude…
A bit pointless but it’s another thing a PSP can do.
its not pointless, it has potential to be a good program
yes, it is fucking pointless
Sony’s out for money anyway, look at the ps3, who’s going to use the ps3 for all that extra shit? I just turn it on and play, that’s why the PS2 was so nice, nothing shitty, nothing fancy, just a console to play games.
The PSP “Slim” could’ve been a more complex PSP. Even if it is just hardware mods, I’d still like to see the ability to use AIM/Yahoo on the PSP. (Without the internet)
aim and yahoo without the internet… fucking brilliant
I havent had any success installing the homebrew on my Custom Fw PSPs ( i have five ) and successfully run it with a PSP-300X camera.
A little FAQ or more files would help :)
