I hope this dope ass “Spyder GX” laser won’t ignite my PSP into a ball of flames when using califrag’s latest homebrew innovation. Introducing eyePSP — control your PlayStation Portable with a laser pointer! You will need a ChottoShot/GoCam and of course, a laser — of any milliwatt-age. Watch and see…
Currently it doesn’t do much, more or less it’s a proof of concept release, hence, “demo.” Nonetheless you’ll notice how well the cursor responds to laser movement. Awesome idea, great work califrag.

Pretty neat bit of software! Can’t think of any proper uses as yet, but the potential is great.
Thanks!
DS homebrew here we come
Great Work! I thought I had seen everything.
I’m waiting for all the ignorant youtube fags to post
“FAKE!”
Good job on the p.o.c though.
Oh i like it, except that it’s just a demo :P
We could make Wii like games with that ;D
Nintendo DS emulator maybe? (just thinking of the dual-screen and no “touchscreen”
Great Idea. We could port homebrew version of wii games. lol. that’s awesome. the possibilities are enormous…. cool ;D
the PSP is the new wii?
Don’t you need the camera accessory for it to work. If so you can play games and do the laser thing at the same time since you can’t run to application like this at the same time. (not enough ram)
“i meant can’t play games and do the laser thing”
sorry
A Duck Hunt homebrew game would be cool with this.
Hell yes.
maybe in time games will work with ds
anyway poc idea but i hope that improvements ar made
anyway u makd the ds better than the current but if u coorindate with the ds emulator team then it,ll be brill.
Just a thought, With the laser pointing directly at the PSP screen, would it damage the LCD?
yh.. thats what i was wondering.. perhaps not? can someone please respond with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’
no.
actually, it depends on what kind of laser it is. Most would not, but some (like many from wickedlasers) get hot and will burn your screen :P
so im guessing none of u guys have heard of webcam games? thats the only possibility of the laser function, instead of standing in front of the camera, u use the laser as urself, depending on the game, i had one where u beat the crap out of a clown… was fun… and creepy. but just a thought, im pretty sure something can be worked out. GJ on the p.o.c.
much congratz
Id love to know how he done this
nice job but i dont see this to going popular..
This is awesome PoC
the best use i can think of this is a Paint application
or the PictoChat feature of DS into the PSP
Be great with a draw app.
it can’t hurt the screen it is being pointed at the wall behind the PSP.
It is done by color tracking.
I think I answered most questions.
Great job califrag.
wat laser do we need, plz tell me and will it work on the slim?
hmmm..that will pawn DS..soon we too will have a pointer pen..^^
@Code Red.. the Lazer is pointing at the PSP not the wall.. see the red dot on the screen ;)
first thing came to my mind was the Wii.. but DS emulation is about as far as this would take you.. very nice idea.. now if the PSP had bluetooth instead of the wireless you could use a Wiimote instead and you wouldnt need the camera just a couple of UV Led’s;)
Why the hell are you all complaining for a good NDS emulator when you have the PSP with all it’s games?
I have both.
Imagine playing Quake with a laser, or any FPS for that matter… You can duck tape the bitch at the tip of a plastic pipe and ducktape another (shorter) pipe at the base and make it into a gun !
Or you can just ducktape the laser on the tip of a plastic gun (any gun will do: squirt gun, blowdryier, broom stick, etc). You’ll pwn more than you think at any FPS. Do I smell a homebew Virtua Cop ?
Basically, you can turn ya PSP into a PDA. Flip it vertically, and you’re in business. At the bottom you add an on-screen keyboard, and at the top… wait a minute :) it’s a DS ! PSPDS !
DS fanboys are so getting bitchslapped…
I’m a HUGE ds fanboy. But I only like the PSP cause of the homebrew. The DS homebrew scene, IMHO, sucks, though i got a ds in the first 2 months it was out. lol. I just got my psp a couple of months ago.
This is just awesome! :D
Great work man!!! ;)
This could be used for DS Emulation or something like that. Like a touchpad! Great!!! =D
Man thats awsome I could think of a ton of possibilities for that. Califrag if you read this contact me at Admin@acidmods.com
wow thats nice, now that you have a pointer the psp just needs a guided missile to bomb stuff with
This is one of first developments to get me interested in quite some time. I can’t wait to see what this becomes.
just a thought could this be used in a fps game you know to remove the need for the face buttons to be used in aiming. it would make things a lot easyer
the only thing about using a laser is over time it will burn the screen kinda like why they say dont shine it in someones eye same concept with this but it is neat none the less
oh for crying out loud, get some brains people.
1. This has nothing to do with bouncing lasers of walls, you point the laser at the screen. The camera then takes an image. This image is analyzed by software which looks for the brightest point in the image. perhaps it searches for specific colours as well. the position data is then used to display the curser on screen. This happens many times in a second to give you smooth movement
2. A normal laser pointer like the red ones used for presentations will never ever cause damage to your screen. The only reason they are bad for your eyes is that they technically over expose the cells in your eyes not because it is physically burning anything.
3. For the person who said it that this cant be mixed with games due to the lack of RAM. Go learn something about computing before you make uneducated statements like that
anyone else?
For number 3, are you positive there would be enough RAM to run an emulator, hold the ROM, and run the prog? I remember awhile ago there was a plug in that let you play music while you played a game, and it lagged like hell. How do you know it wouldn’t be the same in this situation?
Unless you can say for certain it would work fine you cannot tell someone else to go learn about computing.
Thats all.
You fuckin idiot, you DO NOT point the fuckin lazer at the screen..you point it at the wall, the camera takes a picture of that and analyzes it..FUCK
then explain the red dot on the screen idiot
Oh my god are you all fucken retarded!?! The camera is recording the goddam laser dot on the wall, and displaying it on the psp screen. jesus christ you people are fucken stupid.
its a nds emulator.
i said it would be handy with the current emulator plus its a poc attempt
which would better with
an we want to emulate cause we wanner proof ds is crap that the psp can completly emulate the poc.lol
anyway fps wouldnt work well an maybe pokemon would or brainacademy, ect would be better
also another why to have psp rather than ds is cause its cheaper to do so instead of buying both plus ds barely can emulate anything while psp can emulate loads of different machines like windows95,n64
whoops i meant its not a nds emulator but it could be handy for a nds emulater
that is serious pawnage man .
Very neat. Seems like this has a lot of potential. In fact, if you use PSP Slim’s video out function to connect it to a tv or projection screen, and point the laser at that same screen, you could do a lot of neat things. Duck Hunt is one, like someone mentioned. Also you should patent this tech and sue the crap out of anyone who infringes it:)
Lasers I love freakin lasers you make me proud dude! unlike my impudent son Scot
i know this is just off topic but i am so fucking frustrated right now and i need some help. i just got wifi installed in my house yesterday and im with this psptube thing. i keep going to youtube.com/dev to make an account but i dont see no fucking button that says sign up here for a dev account. omg im so fucking frustrated right now can some one plz tell me how to make a dev account.
wow that would be perfect for powerpoints lol.
i mean hook your psp up so it outputs on the computer screen (or tv screen) and play around with it like that
how do u get the program to work
what version do u need and all
Interesting. Looks cool, although I think some people are confused as to whether its being pointed at the screen or at the wall…anyhow, i’ll have to agree with whoever about there not being much use for this right now, however it may open things up in the future.
Secondly, whoever said tape a laser pointer to a tube or squirt gun, the idea of seeing one’s self like that would be like being in the Special Olympics, even if you win you’re still retarded. Now, granted there aren’t any light guns for the PSP, so I understand the enthusiasm about it, and it could work, but the downside is do you really want to aim at the PSP screen, given its size with it(that is if the laser is aimed at the screen)? Now if the laser is aimed at a wall, you’d have to have your PSP close in order to aim well, and to see what else is going on. It’s difficult to say for sure, i’m merely guessing here.
Finally, this is a 50/50 deal in my opinion, it could open up a lot or it may not. We shall see.
i wonder if you could make an Eye-Toy sort of thing with this (^.^)
btw, its being pointed at the wall…. and the camera is looking at the wall.
so
just tell me how to work this application
perhaps this could be made into a braintraining numbers one? that’s really the only DS game i care about right now, and if you use the laser as a touch screen, and then say press x to select (make the laser write) somebody could make their own braintraining homebrew app?
PSPmote
I’d be much more interested in its use as as a writing tool, not unlike what you can do with a stylus on some handheld PDAs. The unfortunately, carrying a camera around would be a bit difficult to use as a scribbling pad. How possible do you suppose that you could tie a simple camera (nothing as fancy as a webcam, but something that can just detect light to the range of a laser point) into a laser pen?
