Custom Firmware 3.71-M33 Released!

I just shit my pants… After much drama Team M33 has finally decided to release their new custom firmware — 3.71 M33! Get it while it’s hot folks!
Just to be clear — please make yourself aware that 1.50 kernel enabled homebrew WILL NOT WORK with 3.71 M33, yet… As mentioned below, “the main installer will not install 1.50 kernel anymore. A 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33 that will install inside 3.71 M33 will be released in a few days (for fat only)”.
3.71-M33 changes:
- Now uses 3.71
- VSH Menu is not longer launched using HOME key, but using SELECT now. This is to not interfere with the XMB function of home, which is now more useful in this firmware.
- Psp Slim: umdcache was allocating memory even when homebrew was launched, wasting memory that homebrew programs may want to use. Now umdcache module is stopped before it can allocate any memory, only in the case homebrew is launched. Also, memory is unprotected for user memory usage by M33 core (only when homebrew is launched). Developer, for a sample of how to use the extra memory, see the extra ram sample of the M33 sdk.
- Both version boot now from 3.XX ipl, and are independent of 1.50.
- The main installer will not install 1.50 kernel anymore. A 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33 that will install inside 3.71 M33 will be released in a few days (for fat only)
- Note: due to some changes in kernel nids by Sony, you can expect a lot of kernel plugins not working anymore. Programmers: refer to the sdk readme for details.
Installation requirements: A fat PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. Previous versions of M33 won’t work, due to a bug that affects them and OE; or a PSP Slim with 3.60-M33. Instructions can be found in the always important readme.txt. Resort to our forums should you encounter problems or difficulties.

This is good and all but I have always had PSX emu issues with M33 stuff. Sticking with 3.10 OE untill im sure it will work as good or better.

There is one slight over looked text issue. When changing from the 1.50 kernel to 3.71 kernel in the recovery the text still says 3.52 not 3.71 under.

Use Pandora’s Battery buddy, it is probably the only way to downgrade to 1.50 and then install 3.52 M33 and the 4th update, then you can update to 3.71 M33, but I suggest to stay at 3.52 M33-4 for the time being…

To get wlan working, just power down completely, remove the battery and power cord, reconnect power and battery then switch on your psp.
If your battery is a pandora, you might want to leave it disconnected.
PS I am typing this message on my psp 3.71M33 so my wlan is working.
i tried that a million times….once it started working out of nowhere, it only worked one day it hasnt worked ever again…

Nice to see a new Custom Firmware release (I’m still using 3.40OE though) and this who’s Dark Alex soap opera is pretty damn hilarious. :) The man created a myth around his person, not bad. :P I for myself don’t know what to believe, on one hand I have no problems to believe DA=M33 as they released the next CFW’s pretty fast after DA’s departure, on the other hand DA’s releases had higher quality (for me at least, not meant to diss M33’s work!) so it is equally possible DA != M33. In either case, thanks for releasing the Firmwares, without them I could not code for my PSP and the whole PSP scene would be boring. So whoever created this FW, mad props and somehow I’m sure it won’t be the last released CFW. At least I hope so! :)

Surely a custom firmware without 1.50 homebrew support built-in really implies that it’s purpose is for piracy? M33’s arguments about “unlocking” the PSP don’t really stand up unless they do it themselves…
They include an SDK for 3.71 so that homebrew developers can use 3.71’s kernel.
Another thing, M33 == Dark_AleX could imply that M33 has become equal to Dark_AleX – thats what the statement means in C programming. Doesn’t mean they’re the same person though :)
I’d say they had written M33 = Dark_AleX then. :) For me, the == means they are absolutely equal and thus the same person. :) However, I find this all bloody hilarious, thanks DA/M33 for entertaining me. ;)

upgraded my slim. so far, so good. FFVII still works too (battle swirl and everything). no working popsloader though (poop). the game emulators still work as well (snes, nes, gba, sg, etc…). now, if only my psp slim can transform into a big breasted woman that can clean, cook and spew beer from her nipples, i’d be set for life!!! or until the next cfw comes out. way to go dark_33.
I still don’t have emulators that work on slim…everything else is cool, but I’m waiting for the 1.5 patch…

Love it. See no real reason to upgrade from 3.52, but then again, I saw no reason to upgrade from 3.40oe either, yet did.
Question though: Does this mean DA is back (again), or that he was silently working with M33 all along (possibly the creator and all members at the same time…)?

Is there any program to unbrick my PSP Slim 3.60 M33 as I got a semi-bricked PSP Slim that can only access to recovery mode & not XMB?
(tried to change the theme on flash0 using Ultimate Themepack for M33 3.5x but it’s don’t work, then I restored the Original file back & got a semi-bricked PSP Slim)

This CFW is kinda different. It didnt installed like the other CFWs( the black screen with tiny letters).It installs like any OFW.

D_A, if you really are M33, why do you even bother releasing an incomplete cfw? These updates are so unlike D_A that I am still highly doubtful about the team members of M33.

Watch out for this release. After it “corrects” the idstorage you might not be able to go back to previous firmware versions, because the corrent keys brick T082 under those versions.

i think u dont have a costum firmware, couse the system version should be 3.52 m33 -4 :D

got psp 3.52 m33-4…keep getting corrupted erro when i go to access my game folder…I changed the eboot.PBP to 371.PBP, put it in my psp/game/then I have no update folder so I create one…then get corrupted file when i go to access it in my psp game folder…PLZ help some1..i’m stuck/confused…

just copy the Update folder on this release into your game folder. Then copy 371.PBP into that update folder.
You nearly ended up with with the official 3.71 firmware, which would be ok if you had a fat with pandora battery but if you have a slim you would have been fucked.

worked well for me after crapping myself when I got some theme corruption error after trying to change theme. dropped into recovery and back to sort this didnt fancy hitting 0 like it suggested to recover settings :|
themes go on memory stick now only offical sony ones so far

M33 is D_A, no 1.5 support, early release. One would think it would have 1.5. I’m gonna stay with 3.52.
To me it sounds like “m33/D_A (aka sony!)” are trying to rid of all psp capable of running homebrew.

review by myself,this new firmware i think it actually want to fight with ipod with mp4 player,cause with the skip and back system added,we can add some MV to watch and watch it easily,and maybe….the sony are try to make something similar like SE phone’s theme,can change any theme at any time at theme setting,of course still need to research,this is just a possibility.

Hmm reply myself, anyway when i bricked it , even pandora failed, because at booting it asked me on the error screen to press O and that screen just kept coming back !!

Yeah, it happened to me once, I redid Pandora’s Battery and fixed it. I installed 3.52 M33-4, and it was buggy like wallpaper erasing, etc. So I used Pandora’s Battery once again and reinstalled 3.52 M33-4 and Voila, fixed it somehow, lol. Now the problem is 3.71 M33, I don’t have Pandora’s battery anymore, I have to borrow a PSP from somebody because 3.71 M33 doesn’t allow me to make the Battery installer. Hope the 1.50 Kernal comes out fast!

Installation instructions:
Copy the UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
Name the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony updater to “371.PBP”.
Copy the “371.PBP” of the 3.71 Sony updater to into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
Note: the program will not even show if you copy it to a different folder than that.
Example:
ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/371.PBP
ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP
ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/umodule.prx
If you are in the fat psp, make sure you have configured the psp to run the game folder in the 3.XX kernel.
Execute the program.
It requires 78% of battery. If you have idstorage corrupted due to a downgrader, the program will ask you to correct it automatically so the update can continue.
Press X, and the Sony updater will begin.
Sit and enjoy while Sony code installs 3.71 M33

My 3.52 -4 works fine. I don’t think I will ever update with this firmware I see theres lots of bugs and not even 1.5 kernel. I think i’ll wait until another cfw coder comes about or this one gets updated.

Wait hold on a second. On the M33 site (or should I say Dark_Alex’s site) it says a PSP Unbricker will be released for both Fat and Slim PSPs. But there’s already a PSP Fat (or PSP 1000) Unbricker, the Pandora’s Battery. Does this mean M33/Dark_AleX will be creating an unbricker that doesn’t require a battery?

The 1.50 kernel is the base system of the 1.50 Firmware, 1.5 because homberew allowed, but i think that homebrew allowed is 1.0 not 1.50 :P

well you will need to goto the recovery menu . seleced advance and clicking on usb flash1.
there you will find a file “config.se ” .delete and it will work(dont worry , this file wil reappear when you start up your psp)

For those of you who live near London or the south of england, there is a guy that will upgrade/downgrade the firmware on your PSP for £5. You can catch him at the British Computer Fair @ Ashburton High School this Sunday and every other Sunday. Some of you already know him as he’s always had the same spot at the fair for years (this was the guy who originally chipped my first ever playstation over 11 years ago). He also chips Xbox 360s, Wii’s, DS, and PS2s.
Anyway I just thought I’d let you know as I see some of you are having problems and this guy has a 100% sucess rate (as far as I know). So you might as well get it done by a professional. Just search google for British Computer Fairs to see when their about.
I know this will only help a fraction of you as most of you probably don’t live in the UK but hey…. What can I do?

This firmware works fine for me. However, until 1.50 kernel is released, I can’t run homebrew. Also, without recovery yet, this installation is a bit of a gamble. On a side note, one of my friend’s bricked his PSP trying to change the theme in flash0, when recovery comes out, is it still possible to run recovery without the 1.50 kernel?

Sony is pretty clever. Prior to the 3.60, all updates were in fact, entire copies of the firmware. Now that 3.70 and 3.71 are out, its obvious the updates are just upgrades, without the complete PSP firmware isntalled. How do I come to this conclusion? Both PSP, fat and lite, can be upgraded with the same EBOOT. Since the eboot is much less than 30 mb, and the slim psp’s flash is close to 64mb, and the fact that different things are installed for both systems, it is just an upgrade, updates certain parts and keeps others previously installed the same.
What does this mean…its too early in the morning for an analysis.
Oh, and 3.71mm can run the exact same homebrew as 3.60 on the slim. Look around, your favorite stuff like Reg and Super Nintendo, Atari and Gameboy work, just need the 3.xx verison. Sad though PS1 doesnt yet.
One more comment, if DAX does indeed create Pandora 2, which can downgrade both systems, what does he need to continue work for? Everything we have hoped for will be accomplished. You may say it wont run the newest games…what about that? What about it…if you want to run illegal games thats your buisness, but as far as ‘legal’ homebrew is concerned, everything that can be done has.

goto the recovery menu (holinf r whhen starting up)delete the config.se from flash1 (this will default all the setting in the recovery menu) you will find it under advance setting

irshell doesn’t work because you can’t enable the prx. If you try, PSP crashes. You then have to remove the mem stick to access recovery, refit it and disable the prx again. Thought I had a brick for a while there.
Oops wrong bit. You can’t change from the official firmware as sony put code in to prevent you doing it. You need Pandoras battery (Ask someone else).

Honestly, this firmware doesn’t offer anything better currently over 3.52-M33-4. The only plug-ins I use are the screenshots plug-in and now that doesn’t work, and the poor excuse that has shown up over the last few days is just pitiful. Tried it, didn’t like it. Going back down to 3.52 M33-4. Currently the only use this has is if you need to play something that asks for firmware this high.

hi, guys. I’m happy to have Slim & Light model and the latest custom firmware. Now it’s my first time to face a problem like this. I downloaded Castlevania DX and when I run it it gives me a black screen and nothing happens. I can returne back to the menue screen by pressing the Home botten. I need help with that.
oh, that’s OK. I have fond the problem. I changed the configuration of my psp it works very well with the game. Even I’m dissappointed with the level of this game, but still I’m happy that to have this kind of experience to not have any porblem in the future. :)
if i installed this in my psp can my iso/cso files can be played, bcoz my iso/cso are not visble thats why my files cant be played but i paste it in the folder correctly,,
