Its been along time coming, and still you must wait longer… Not much longer though! Developer StrmnNrmn shares his latest N64 emulation update with all the Daedalus disciples out there. Most interesting, R13 introduces “savestate” support…
StrmnNrmn explains it best:
For those not familiar with savestates, the basic premise is very much like ‘hibernate’ or sleep modes on PCs and laptops. A savestate can be created at any point during emulation. At a later time the savestate can be reloaded to restore the emulator to the exact state it was in when the savestate was created.
The plan: apply the finishing touches on Daedalus’ new savestate system, finish a number of additional optimizations, and then R13 is ready for prime time! It’s actually scheduled for release on the weekend of September 29th, or the first weekend in October.
In the meantime, occupy yourself with Daedalus R12.

ok im looking forward to this, but i need to ask….
i just bought a slim PSP and then had to hunt down an av cable for it. now im finding out that the XMB loads great on my tv and looks great, but Sony made it so that only the XMB, the photos, and the movies, would load on my tv. In order to play the UMD games, i need a component cable (which wont even fit on my tube tv…im not rich enough for the plasma screen bullshit everyone else has). This is so damn frustrating. Do the homebrew games work on the AV cable? I havent hacked it yet because im still thinking about returning it. It pisses me off that the XMB looks so good on my tv, but yet they made it so the games wont load via the same method. it just doesnt make any sense to me. anyone know if the M33 custom firmware supports a fix for this problem? i just want to be able to play all the homebrew and games on my regular ghetto ass tv instead of having to support all that yuppie flat screen bullshit.
you can get an adaptor that converts component to standard AV.
They are cheap too.
does that work? i would think the PSP would somehow ‘know’ that its not connected to a hi def screen and give the same error message.

wouldn’t be more reasonable to make it for the slim which has more ram and could handle the emulator better.
But i could be wrong and it could run great on a fat psp, i really don’t know.

Well Redshadow, the emulator would probably run better if the amount of memory was used but seeing as StrmnNrmn already has a non-slim PSP, he’ll most likely continue to create the emulator for the Slim seeing as there’s no point in wasting $200 for another PSP when you already have one.

As soon as i heard about the psp slim i sold my fat psp for 150 dollars because it was still moderately in demand. now all i need is 50 bucks for the slim version. HA HA HA

Not was supose to bring the N64 Bios this time? That was said the last time, I remember!ITS GOING TO BE JUST THE savestate improve and thats it? heh.. its pretty much the reason why I bought a PSP in the first place. Why play classics on a PC, when you can have it conveniently on a handheld that can do more than just gaming?

save state is a very nice feature to have but i think more of your time should be used for optimizing speed not adding features, the emu is barely playable whats the point of saving if you can’t play it lol…… anyways its a great program and i hope you can make it run better

Is this the update that’s supposed to run much faster we were “promised” a couple of months ago?
I’m Still waiting for the emulator to be at its prime and when it gets to that put hope that its at full speed and compatible with all roms.

Ok, first off… all the America talk, America sucks. Get over it… I’ve lived here all my life (26 now) and I am working on getting out. This country needs to learn to sort its own self out before making problems for others.
Second… the emulator. I’d love to see this thing run full speed some day, but I doubt it will, I just don’t see PSP being able to handle N64. Hell, I remember when a gameboy color emulator came out… and… well, I haven’t checked on it since lol. (If that tells you anything).
I am happy people contribute to the *scene* but sometimes I believe it may be time well wasted. I just don’t see the point in playing an emulator that has massive slow down.
Keep up the work tho, like I said… I’d love to see 100% version.

Dude…the PSP can Play PSX games at full speed. PSX runs at 128 Bit graphics. The N64 was…Well…64 Bit and ALOT less powerful than the PSX so logically if the PSP can run PSX games full speed then it could easily do N64 games Full speed, or even double the speed.

I’m sorry, I have to reply to my reply. ALOT less powerful is what the PS was. The only big diff was it could do FMV from the added storage capacity of a CD. God, I wanna know how old/educated you are now. And no one even responded! Are the rest of you in league with this?
Are you stupid? No seriously. John is right, if a PS1 emulator can run full speed on a PSP, an N64 emulator can as well. The problem with this is that Sony built both PS1 and PSP and know exactly how the two work and function. If someone helped build the N64 and PSP and had experience with creating emulators, I’m sure they’d be able to compile a perfect N64 emulator. The PSP isn’t just a piece of junk it’s almost as powerful as the PS2. Proof of this is Crisis Core which looks like a PS2 game while a game like Daxter is a game that looks almost as good as a PS2 game.

i think making the emulator faster and more playable should have come before savestate support.
anyway Daedalus is great and we are lucky that someone is even trying.
Well savestate is not a waste though. Just say there’s a part in the game where it freezes and you can’t do anything. StrmnNrmn can create a savestate right before it freezes, figure out why it’s freezing, then improve on it. As long as StrmnNrmn can get Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. working perfectly with sound then I’m happy.

if you go to the officlal BLOG Website, yes there are three Speed Ups being Put into this Next Release, as well as this new Save State Feature, of which he says, will help him in Finding where the Problems are in the Emulator, and fixing the bugs in the Games to get them Running more Quickly for Us all………..
