I’m excited to see what becomes of Sony’s new Slim PSP… Already, spread across several pages, are a series of photos illustrating the disassembly process. Now answer me this, how long before it’s fully hackable? ;)
yea this new psp is just like the original except slimmer. theres nothing new about it. but the little kids that want one of these dont see that. they just see a more smaller deferent looking device. i mean seriously if your going to spen 200 dollars on the same system then your a dumbass. i mean keep those 200 dollars save up just a little bit more and get an xbox360 or a wii or a ps3 well for a ps3 u would need to save up a lot more but whatever lol. dont be a moron by spending another 200 dollars on the same system that u already have.
oh so now they can make bigger games incompatible with the current model… so that’s their method of locking out the homebrew community… well, if Sony starts making games we can’t play w/ our 32meg ram, then I say F sony, ’cause I’m never buying a PSP Slim… I’ll just move on to another company (maybe someday nintendo will make a handheld w/ good graphics and multimedia capabilities?)
no you foolz it has other features, and fuck it light weight is cool (i hate to carry this heavy assed psp all the time). and i don’t want to spend 50 dollaz on a TV adapter for the regular one.
and besides that at least the psp will be unique since every body is like “oh no, my broke assed wallet, i’ll have to eat from trash for a year to think about affording it”

guys after the comment that i left up there all mostly all comments below it are dumb as fuck. look there arent that many good features in this new psp to go out and spend the same amount that u spent on the original one. ok look at it this way. me and some other guy have the original psp. then the psp slim is out and we both have 200 dollars. ok so i decide to keep those 200 dollars and the other guys goes and spends those 200 dollars on the psp slim. well a month later i have enough money to buy an xbox360 core system. and guess what game i buy……halo3. so now i have a psp and an xbox360 with halo3. while the other guy has an original psp and a slim psp wich doesnt even have that many new functions. ok so the other guy is still playing the same old psp games while i still have my old psp games and on top of that i have an xbox360 and halo3 so woohooo. dont be a dumbass if u have enough cash to buy a slim u almost have enough cash for an xbox 360 or wii whatever system u want it doesnt matter im just trying to prove a point that if u buy a slim when u already have an original psp that your just wasting your money so dont be a dumbass save taht cash and buy something else other then a psp.

old psps don’t have tv out function like the slim one i would sell the psp that i have on regular firmware to get one and keep my homebrew psp. but after the mobo is patched on the new one and it is homebrew ready then i’ll trade in the homebrew one.

Having TV output defies the whole reason of a PSP… Playstation PORTABLE… Unless you wanna carry some big ass 42 inch TV with you everywhere, then the PSP2 isn’t reallt worth it.
btw, Flash memory is different from RAM. RAM wouldn’t hold FW because it would be erased everytime the PSP hard reboots.

Look people, the new PSP is just a regular PSP, reduced by a total (weight + width) of 32%, added a TV out, moved a few things around and 2 x the original PSP’s flash memory, THAT’S WHAT IT IS!
Well, I like it… I would buy it if I had some extra money but only if “they” manage to hack it. But actually, I’m not really sure if “they” exist anymore.
Anyway it’s always a good thing trying to improve.
Hmm… Did anyone notice the motherboard looks aout the same? SO theoretically we could take the motherboard out of a custom firmware psp and put it in the slim psp? Or would it not work?
uhh… they are definitely not the same. for starters the slim has the wifi board built into the motherboard by the looks of things. also there are other enhancements done to it to make games load faster and such..
finally somebody has actually looked at the pictures and then typed unlike the other noobies here, they are definitely not the same, look at the pics ppl!!
-_- , SONY will make a huge motherboard update on that one . something like the ps3 , almost 1 year on the market and not eaven 1 single hack for it. For the PS3 is good cause have backups , sony lose money on the process of develop it.
We’ll see the slim psp hacked sooner or later. I’ve the utmost confidence in the Homebrew Community.
I myself won’t buy a psp slim even when the Homebrew Community triumphs. The benefits aren’t all that great imho and I’m perfectly content with my ‘ol psp :-P
exactly ‘dave’ it just takes a little time i rember when they said the same thing about ps2 mod-chips but what do ya know they work..
come to think of it they said the same thing about the psp, that piracy wouldnt be acheived ect. now we have iso’s everywhere!!!
cant even mod the jewel because it doesnt have one! the slim has better specs but has its anti hack proof all over it. id rather keep the old psp because it is thicker which means you can put more wires in it etc..
i would get a slim, if it gets hacked, the tv out is worth it alone (much easyer to dl movies and use it a a media player), that and i could flog my old psp on ebay to try and offset the price, but only after it can run backup “legal” iso :P
I will definitely get one when the right price come and the homebrew community succeeding to downgrade it. Does anyone know how this will effect Daedalus 64 emu?
N64 emulation will be greatly improved with the increase from 32mb to 64mb of ram. N64 emulation is really tough to dev. Rouge Squadron is still not emulated, even on high end pcs.
I would expect that with increased ram, the n64 emulator could reach about the same speed as the n64 emu on the xbox. The xbox only has 64mb of ram. So that means around 25-30 fps on really high end roms, and 60fps on low end roms like 2d games and low detail 3d games.
I hear r13 n64 emulator is going to have a huge speedboost though, so just wait a while longer and the phat psp will reach more standable levels of emulation.
Well I got my hands on one of these and playing w/ it at this time. I can already say this ” this halloween more gamers will be running scared to get a psp then a DSLite”
just stick with the original. all these damn systems are going to make me go insane. stick with the hackable one with more room in it to fit more cool stuff than this slim crap. besides its not THAT much thinner although its thin. Also no jewel case mods :/
for all u saying ur gonna wait till its hackable i would suggest buying one when it first comes out cuz when they first come out there easyer to hack example: when sony first released the psp to japan it had fw 1.0 and had NO restriction whats so ever and as time whent by there updates made the psp more restrictede to what it could do
and also the motherboard is rev 1 … so if they make a security change in the motherboard you wont be affected in the future :)
ALSO if you are waiting for homebrewf for pspslim i recommend you buy the psp as soon as its announced that it has been hacked. Sony will make an update straight after it (but it takes some time to ship out to the stores)
lol 95% of people who post don’t even know what they are talking about the only difference between the slim and the original is the tv, yes they were going to up the ram but they decided not to it will still have the same amount of ram (23 megs) processor is the same though they are saying they use it different to make it faster… ler ol doubt it there is nothing that can transfer faster then a ms well not that is portable anyways, so again the only difference other then size is tv, at which point if it was that important buy a fucken console holla
I’m getting one too, PSP-2000 (Fixed @ 333Mhz, 64MB RAM, TV-Out, Lighter, Power Efficient) some of my games here will benefit from this slight upgrade, instead capping my speed settings to 333Mhz in the Recovery menu which drain the battery fast. I’ll buy one even it’s not hackable, I still have my used UMD’s. AfterBurner - Black Falcon speeds from 20-45 fps to 30-60 fps @ 333Mhz plus no lag in the in game music. I’ll even enjoy this on my TV even @ 480×272 resolution. ;)
if the motherboard is different wouldn’t that mean that if the psp slim is 3.60 firmware that could be like it first firmware , like the first psp when it came out it had 1.00 it was not possible to go lower(even do there no reason for it)what i trying to say is that wouldn’t 3.60 be it first and it will continue from there. because some people are saying that if they can use the pandora’s battery to downgrade the psp slim but what if the new psp is not using 1.50 and it just using 3.60. i am not saying it not possible to downgrade it they me be another way to do it or i may be wrong too it just my opinion so don’t curse me out cause you thing i am wrong
well..it’s called “patching the motherboard” my friend..to trick it into thinking it’s a TA-079 motherboard…which is capable of downgrading to 1.50..that’s what they did when $ony released the TA-082 motherboard..they dev’d a patch.
i herd there actually is some changes but psp homebrew on psp 1 can do most of this there is a umd holder in the psp slim theres a tv output or osmehting like that i herdand theres a way for it to detect media off computers harddrive but thats all ive herd of
oo yeah and i herd theres more battery powr that wraps this up and they took out infred port which sucks to turn ur tv on and off which i wouldnt give up
AMEN TO THAT BRO! if they changed anything to it (FW,SOFTWARE,SECURITIES) it might have problem playing older umd games…remember the jig kick lets you reboot to 1.5 FW and some of are UMD’s have 1.5 FW. so yeah it is possible….and check the video on the 9th step of this dis-assembly, at exactly 01:19 he was picking games from the memory card FULL AUTO/RIDGE RACER is this a possible hack slim psp or those are just demo games on his card. you be the judge….tkg
i just want to say that the new psp will be $169 but if u get one like the star wars one it will be $200 cuz it comes with a game and the new one hooks up to ur tv thats what the new one has
slim is too thin.no jewel case mods. less room for extra appearance mods such as wires leds and other crap. no mod chip.. so what if it hooks up to your tv. theres a program that does it for the pc using a usb hub lol!
I have been deciding now for the past month, whether or not I should get an old PSP from Asia or (other place), or get the new slim psp. I have a pretty good collection of psp games, 27, which I usualy buy on Amazon, although I have bought a few “must have games” at the local store new. The emulation for SNES and Gameboy is wonderful, and I use that a lot. It makes sense to me, being a computer programmer (not psp programmer) that the hardware being different in the thin version, may not support 1.5 or any of the current customs. Afterall, the reason why Windows XP and VISTA are so large, isnt the programs themselfs, its all the little drivers incorperated with them. Anybody from the old Dos and Windows 3.1/95 era can attest not all hardware worked with the software provided by Microsoft. Sony could “eliminate” primary functions which would make 1.5 inopperable, or at least create some software conflicts. Alright, I’m a nerd… but I do believe Sony has something up their sleeve to stop homebrew, at least innitaly. So I have decided not even to wait for the pandora battery or any downgrader to be confirmed, i’m going to get a Cool color old psp… Blue or mabye even Gold. They are in short supply…. I can always pick up a slim psp 2 years from now.
I’d advise you to get both.
And get the old model first because it is “LIMITED”! Sony will no longer produce PSP-1000 in the future after Pandora was leaked.
the reason will be for one…the battery is different. Not the same size. Probably won’t have the same hook for unbricking in the hardware. (Too bad the pandora’s battery was leaked pre-psp slim…but it was a necessary to prevent people from cashing in on the unbricker.)
Nobody has mentioned the big difference-They removed the I.R. sensor!!!!!That’s no good for IR Shell, that’s one of my favorite apps. TV out is capable already, but with an adapter. Don’t get me wrong, I just want one because they are new and I’m curious. No IR…That’s the only problem I have with it, I’m positive it will be hacked in a matter of time.
I don’t think they removed the IR because of hacking…but if I recall correctly like none of about all the games actually use the IR. So other than the homebrew, it is kind of useless. No offense.
99.9% of the games just transfer data via the Wi-Fi.
Sony never used it for anything as far as I know, but we as a homebrew community have made great use of the IR sensor with IR Shell. Everybody’s ok with that? I must be getting old
Now this isn’t my area of expertise, I’m more of a hardware modder than a program rewriter, but couldn’t someone just make a program that bypasses the security, mimicks it if it must, and make it homebrew capable. It may not work exactly like that, not sure how it should, just something that rewrites the motherboard a bit and copies the RAM just with a tiny change in the Kernel to make it 1.50 and 3.60 and above capable. Just a thought…
Im sure once the Slim is released, Sony will remove the old PSP from stores(like they did with the 20GB PS3). I just hope someone find a way to hack it.All we need is an exploit. :/
Since when has there not been an exploit found? It may take a while, but there will be one. The reason Sony’s pushing out the PSP Slim and PSP Light is because it cannot be soft-modded as of today. And fanjita should NOT have left the PSP hacking community. All the cool people already left. We’re going to need his help for exploit searching and downgrading on these new PSPs.
Its so easy for sony to win and stop the homebrew scheme to stop but they are just so thick. All they have to do is make the new psp directly on 3.60 so the psp would not have 1.5 on there as a back up. It just so simple and i am only 14
uhhh, old psp’s come preinstalled with 3.50 from stores now, with no 1.5 backups or anything on them, so your idea does absolutely nothing. We put 1.5 on there by finding an exploit to allow unsigned code to run. Then running a modified 1.5 update eboot…pretty simple. And what you are proposing is what they have already done. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO NO SYSTEM WILL EVER BE 100% SECURE>
PSP Slim is here!!! Awesome powerful up to date system, everything you almost could want! I say about a week for the top of the line PSP Hackers: Dark Alex, Fanjita, Noobz Team, Team C+D, Team M33, Team Wildcards, & many others who are amazing!!! Thank you all PSP Hackers!!! You guys made this Console System top of the line!!!
Im looking forward to getting one of these. The Star Wars one specifically ;)
Does anyone know the price they will be?
around $200
Thats fair. Im such a whore for special editions and re-releases…
(Halo 3 Zune…)
lol, funny comment! but fu██ing 200 doesnt sound too bad
I WONDER IF THIS NEW PSP IS HACKABLE…
I lol’d when I kept scrolling down and there was hentai pr0n

Dont forget that the ram is bigger and at a guess the chips are lower powered.
so why cant we mod them? we now have the pandora battery, so ….? wat would b the issue?
The problem is newer models are incompatible with 1.50 firmware and cfw requires 1.50 fw to boot.
they will make patches just as they have done for the TA-O82+ MOBOs, who knows maybe dax and fanjita might come back.

If it runs the same firmwire, couldn’t you brick it and reboot it to 1.50 using the magic battery. You probably can’t but it’s just an idea.
why would you brick it? The pandora pays no attention to whether or not a psp is bricked..it runs regardless..but not on the slim.
Datel released a battery, similar to the Pandora’s one… they say it can fit and run on a PSP Slim and Lite….

ARE THESE IN THE U.S. YET? also i can’t wait to see what ACIDMODS is going to do to the NEW PSP
i just want to say that the new psp will be $169 but if u get one like the star wars one it will be $200 cuz it comes with a game and the new one hooks up to ur tv thats what the new one has
slim is too thin.no jewel case mods. less room for extra appearance mods such as wires leds and other crap. no mod chip.. so what if it hooks up to your tv. theres a program that does it for the pc using a usb hub lol!
Sony will no longer produce PSP-1000 in the future after Pandora was leaked.
if i ever do get this, im gonna put porn on it and watch it on the big screen when no ones home.

Few sites like afterdawn are already saying that the unbricker can’t be used on this one.
the reason will be for one…the battery is different.
Erm not very interesting but news all the same…..
We still have team C+D and team Noobz.
and m33 ;)
Do not worry people. Because I CAN HACK EVERYTHING.
Well, if that is the case, you could be the next Dark Alex, or Fanjita…..but since I haven’t seen anything…I am not holding my breath.
I hear PS3 needs their own Dark Alex and Fanjita…someone who can hack the PS3.
Anyways, until you actually have some proof in concept, I am not holding my breath.
NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO NO SYSTEM WILL EVER BE 100% SECURE>
peace
How long until it’s hackable?
Knowing the way things work around here I’d have to say 3… 2… 1…
The PSP slim will be hackable on October 14th.
Sorry to point out…half of those people have left the psp scene, to pursue other activities.
i think they will see a challange when it comes out ;)
I think being threatened with legal action by a huge multinational corporation is enough to scare the “challange” right out of a few people.
I realize to late…I misspelled challenge
