Hexen II for PSP v1.1 Released

greg | August 29, 2007

If you own a legitimate [full] PC copy of Hexen II, and a PlayStation Portable, you’re in luck. Enjoy the classic first person shooter from your very own handheld — all thanks to developer Juraj Styk. Need I say more? I think not.

(version 1.0 in action)

v1.1 changes:

Fixed:

  • Rendering errors that could be observed at some places
Two kind of errors are fixed:
    1. Problem with surfaces not being drawn sometimes (visible at village2 map at room with hidden portal)
    2. Problem with rendering beyong the edge of surface (visible at demo3 map at section with bell and underground passage)
  • Switching between transparent and opaque water no longer requires map reloading
  • Some fixes related to model transparency rendering

New Features:

  • Support for suspending and resuming game
  • Music playback trough MP3 implemented with MAD audio library (can be switched on/off from options menu or from console)
  • Optimized sky drawing (three modes are available now: original, optimised , single color)

Untested:

  • Multi player (creating multi player game works)

Known issues:

  • No progress bar displayed when starting/loading/saving game (disabled because of stability problems)
  • User made mods with modified progs.dat files will not work
  • Sprite models with width or height that is not multiple of 4 can cause game to crash

Looks very hard to control. Does it suffer from the same problem as Doom and Duke 3D ports?

Umm, what exactly is that problem? I’ve played through Doom just fine with my PSP.

Just found PC’s were always allot easier to control then the PSP. Faster and more responsive too. Not to mention that the lack of buttons doesn’t help. Worth playing I guess.

same here you can only play the “old game” but its very limited and the first lvl there is nothing but that large open room and the pillers with nothing to do. wonder it its doe on purpose? will have to dig out my original disks.
