Pandora’s Battery - Universal PSP Unbricker

Alias420 | August 22, 2007

Right after we posted about Fanjita’s upcoming PSP unbricker for those that bricked their PSP with a bad copy of the M33 custom firmware, Fanjita and his crew upped the ante releasing a program that UNBRICKS ALL SONY PSPs. Wow a strong kudos goes out for this one. No longer will we need to ship bricked PSP’s off to Sony to have them fixed for a cost.

We told you that we’d be releasing an unbricker for the M33 bricks. But then we got to thinking, maybe that just wouldn’t be exciting enough.

Would you like a super special surprise bonus? How about an unbricker for ALL PSPs? Yep, you read that right. We call it “Pandora’s Battery”.

There’s a larger story behind this unbricker, though, and it deserves to be told. It’s the culmination of years of behind-the-scenes research and development by some of the top names in PSP hacking, under the name of the Prometheus project. This group of people, from various development teams, was dedicated to developing and releasing PSP hacks and exploits, with the aim of improving the status of PSP homebrew, and making sure that it was kept alive.

As always you can grab this file from our psp downloads area or by clicking here. For all the details from Fanjita check this out

This works! I unbricked a psp.

I even updated to the official 3.52 and used the unbricker to downgrade it to 1.50!

This is the best thing ever released, excellent work.

I unbricked from fw 3.40oe.

After I unbricked I updated to the official 3.52 fw,

then I used the pandoras battery to dg to 1.50.

works fine as both dg and unbricker.

I’d kinda guess you could use it like that, but i’m not sure as i’ve not had any problems w/ any of that, but i was just thinking that myself….so if someone had a 3.51 could upgrade to 3.52 and in the middle of it purposefully brick it….in theory i think it sounds alright, but i’d rather hear it for sure from the Prometheus project……

To all readers, even undercover Sony eyes to stop homebrew: If the computer market, the handheld market, all markets combined with information services never restricted free information to be passed, there would never be this opposing force.
Look at how Linux and the Free Software Foundation came into existence. If there ISNT going to be a comprimise between two groups, there will always, as studied in government class, be a split, a rebellion, because the other party was never willing to open out to new and unique ideas.
Open Sourceware isnt bad. Homebrew isnt bad. We will continue to unbrick and service our own PSPs because you’re not willing to support our partty and they will always exist no matter what you do. The only thing that can be done is what is right - for a comprimise.
WIll you do that Sony? Or will we just buy third party hardware and use homebrew apps that allow us to use it with our TV, or remotely with our PC, or even making the music plugin to where i can listen to music while playing your UMD games.
Its your choice. We will just continue to tred in the footsteps of opensourceware… for the PSP.
God bless you all.

The only way I can think of is a program hacking into ur psp from the Computer.

You have to open the folder above it and hold shift and right click on the folder then click open command here once opened type mspformat.exe and then the drive letter

Comment by mspformat
2007-08-22 23:18:52

ok. i typed mspformat.exe i:, where i: is my memory stick, then i get the message “Usage: mspformat.exe driveletter.” I don’t think it formatted my mspd. I’m using Vista btw. I tried running it as an administator, and setting the compatibility to XP service pk2.

Comment by mspformat
2007-08-23 01:01:40

so i moved the mspformat.exe to the root of my c: drive and tried it again. At the C:\> prompt, I typed mspformat k (where k is my MSPD). This time i get an open error message. I tried using both my Sony 1GB MSPD and my Sandisk 2GB MSPD. Any ideas?

Could you post some instructions on how you did it? I can’t get it to work.

Comment by mspformat
2007-08-23 05:01:03

I got it to work using XP. I was using Vista earlier, maybe that’s why it didn’t work. Anyways, I used the same steps as my earlier comment above. Move the mspformat.exe to the root of c:..etc. Don’t add a colon at the end of the drive letter. So type out “mspformat x” instead of “mspformat x:”, without the quotes and where x is your drive letter. Another thing that I did differently was using a different card reader. That may or may not have been one of the problems for the open error message. This was all done on a Sony 1GB MSPD. Hope this helps!
