MasterBoy v2.0a Released

greg | August 21, 2007

Update: MasterBoy 2.0a is now available. Not sure what the changes consist of. Just download it, and have fun!

MasterBoy ScreenshotBrunni has released MasterBoy — an emulator consolidating Nintendo Game Boy, Super Game Boy, Game Boy Color, SEGA Master System, *takes a breath* and Game Gear emulation — all in one EBOOT!

MasterBoy incorporates a nifty feature allowing you to colorize old GBC games; see examples in the “Colorpak” directory. There are plenty more options which distinguish this emulator from the rest. It definitely deserves a spot on your memory stick.

The SMS/GG emulation is based on MMSPlus. Everything is nicely documented in MasterBoy.pdf. Kudos Brunni; wonderful work.

This is great! I dont really have any Sega emulators on my PSP, but since it all comes conveniently on one EBOOT, I would be sure to download it.

No GBA and no rewind feature… :( Damn. I really hope these will be added.

One emu to rule them all ? Why not.

I really wonder one thing…
Does this have support for the clock in Pokemon Gold/Silver?

hmm… I don’t know… It’s cool and all I guess, but just like DSpider said:

“No GBA and no rewind feature… :( Damn. I really hope these will be added.

I don’t know I think this app should get more things in it to make it more appealing rather than just a bunch of emus all packed together. If this is set out to be an emu pack all in one eboot, it should contain ALOT of emus altogether.

Don’t get me wrong though, I think this app is a great idea. It’s very creative, but I still wouldn’t download it… maybe not just yet ;)

Well, for those who think that there should be more emulators in a single package, why not try to port M.E.S.S. into PSP. Though I am doubtful it would work right, due to the sheer massive amount of code which would have to be written to take advantage of the PSP.

Actually, I believe the right answer to why GB, GBC, SMS, and GG are easily put into a single emulator…All systems above use TASM, have a Z80 processor, and all are similar in how they work.

Checking it out now. :)

I just need to ask; whats a super gameboy?

Super Gameboy was an attachment for the SNES which allowed you to play gameboy games on the TV. Games made for the SGB had a 12 color palette and some had improved sounds. Street Fighter II had the ability to play 2 player using 2 SNES controllers.

Sweet emulator. Only problem which is very minor was the “SEGA” sample at the opening of the Sonic games. Other than that EXCELLENT! Keep up the good work!

The process of Coloring games seems super complicated. I’m still a n00b to this stuff, but apparantly, you have to run this emu in “Kernel Mode” (whatever the hell that means) in order to have the option to colorize game pallettes. You gotta love how there are no explanations or manuals included that specify how to do this, but I guess it ain’t a bad package overall. I just wish I could colorize these old games.

There is a .pdf file on his site that shows you how to color them, but it is only in french right now. He says he will update with an english version soon

You can use a translator to translate the readme… If you can’t find feeware software, you can try online translators as well. Google knows more.
