Music PRX 0.50 (aka irsmp3)

greg | August 10, 2007

Is iR Shell overkill for the simple listening need of your own tunes while in game? You may recollect joek2100’s initial release of irsmp3, a modified version of iR Shell’s open source mp3 module. After receiving many new features & optimizations, Music PRX debuts with its new name at version 0.50. A few things to note…

This has new hardware decoder will work with all umd games/the vsh/ and most homebrew. (Thanks to cooleyes)
- It will not work with homebrew that uses the ME (SnesTYL ME, dosbox .71, etc)
- It will not work with copy protected atrac3’s
- In the next release I’ll have it switch back to the software decoder (mp3 only) when the ME is in use, but until then you’ll have to use the non-ME version
- Also when playing an mp3 that has a samplerate different from 44.1kHz, you need to pause the song before the vsh’s video/music player will work

0.50 changelog:

  • Added In Game mute
  • Added a HW decoder (thanks to cooleyes), which should make playback faster
  • Fixed various bugs, overclocking the vsh browser now works
  • Added wave atrac3 (*.at3) and sonic stage atrac3 (*.oma/*.omg/*.aa3) support (only with non copy protected files, but you should be able to remove copy protection with the newer sonic stage)
  • Added support for music copied to the psp using sonic stage (in OMGAUDIO)
  • Changed how the cpu is changed, it is now based on the current speed, even if some other program changed it
  • CPU + Mode settings are now saved, (if a game changes the cpu speed, it isn’t saved, but if you change the speed it will be saved, also nothing prevents a game from changing the speed after its set)
  • Added support for mp3’s at samplerates != 44.1kHz
  • Added a loop current song button

It’s great if it now supports homebrew, I wouldn’t need the memory-consuming iRShell if I want some background music playing while running Bookr.

is there anyway to make this work with homebrew or do i have to keep using irshell

Alright, seems obvious from the above comments that this version like it’s precedents doesn’t support major homebrew applications e.g. Bookr.

Works on Bookr for me. >_>

Does this work in the xmb (ex:music while viewing photos) or just game/homebrew?

It works on the xmb, that I know from the previous version. Dunno if this one works on homebrew apart from games.

What do I do with music_src?

Where do I put it?

Comment by Daniel Briggs
2007-08-13 14:43:33

Don’t do anything with that. All that is is the source code, incase any programmers want to improve on it.

No you dont put it there. you dont need that folder at all. they are the source code files for the prx.

Doesn’t work on isos at all. Big disappointment but the improvements are very good such as the display for the plugin doesn’t blink when u use it like last time. Would really love to see a plugin that would allow u to go into the music folder, choose the song u want so u can navigate through the xmb with the chosen song instead but this will do for now. Thanks for the update.

Rocks. Just slipped it in and it works. Still seeing CWCheat as well. Works under ISO, XMB for me, somethings bugging up my UMD loading though, but I rarely play them so not a problem.

This version Dosent work on GTA Vice City Stories for some reasons. But i have a idea, just put the old version in the plugins folder and change the command buttons to something different and enable it. Then u can play the old one in ISos games and the new one in homebrew and stuff.

SWEET! THIS IS ALMOST THE BEST ONE YET!
Support for lower hrtz. Yes!
I like to listen audio books that have been converted to 64bit with the hrtz at 32, 22, or even 11 hrtz. While I surf the web. A dream come true. no more chipmunks.
Thank you for your sweet programming skills, and this awesome update.
As far is what is seems to do for games in cso format they don’t work for me. The Icons turn to psp icons, not the png game icon. and they won’t load unless I disable the pluggin. Locks up on PSP screen if launched. Need to pull battery to hard reset.

hey bubba.
Please be more specific, did you?
copy files.
“Add line” ms0:/seplugins/music.prx to the your vsh.txt file. or copied theres over to the seplugins folder over writing the info put by other plugins.
Important to add the line. Do not just copy file.
Besure not to have the older version of mp3XMB enabled, they clash.
Do not know if that helps, hopefully it will send you in the right direction.
This pluggin will be so great soon, I can’t wait for it to be finished.

Damn… I spent an hour converting all of my music collection from MP3 to ATRAC3, and they wouldn’t play with this… what gives? :(

PS: raikov, any plugin you enable on your PSP has the potential to semi-brick your PSP. The PSP doesn’t have much RAM memory so the number of things running at the same time is limited. If you have many plugins or a big theme (topmenu, bg pic, etc) that take up too much ram you’re psp might not boot.
