PSPTube — YouTube Videos Directly on your PSP!

greg | August 9, 2007

Watch YouTube videos directly on your PSP, that’s what I’m saying! Japanese developer NekoMiMi (I think… correct me if I’m wrong) has achieved just that. Before using PSPTube you’ll need to sign up a dev account at YouTube’s developer page.

Open up “psptube.cfg” under the corresponding firmware directory, find the line beginning with dev_id, and between those quotes, add your YouTube developer id. Now enjoy the season finale of Lonelygirl15. (haha, *points and laughs at you*)

But for real, awesome job.

Download: PSPTube 20070805

Thanks for the 411 mr. knockout

Hmm… everything worked. Right up to the part where it says no videos. Hitting circle causes my PSP to shut off. PSP 1001 FW 3.40 OE.

Good start however. Hope it continues as there is clearly a good chunk of people willing to throw the alpha version on for testing and trials so this should encourage the developer more. Keep it up.

If you put it in ‘game’ and you aren’t getting any luck, move the folder to ‘game350′ or whatever firmware version your using (Eg. ‘game340′ if you got 3.40). Or you can change the homebrew folder in Recovery mode. IMHO though, just move folders. It’s easier.

I got it working. Ok people, for those of you who can’t get it to work on 3.40 OE-A This is what I did:

I got the 200over kernel setup one, then I used the config file Mr_knockout graciously gave us. Put all those files in PSP/GAME340/. That should do the trick.

For some reason Mr_Knockout’s ID works perfectly while my own ID doesn’t. I don’t understand why. Even if I replace his ID with mine in the cfg, I still get the ID error message…

Doesnt seem to work on M33 3.52-2. My kernel is in 3.52 and I place the files on GAME150. I always get initializing network. . . . . . failed
Even with Mr Knockout ID and even putting the files on GAME352.

Is anybody having the same problems? basically, my problem is not the ID neither the files, is just the network problem that fails.

Works fine, when I find videos that’ll load. Quite often I’ll find a video that just won’t load. It’ll say something along the lines of “Failed. Can’t find video” I can’t read it, it flashes up too quick. Then a web address appears underneath the audio and video stream percentages. It’s always Http://cache.googlevideo.com/get_video?video_id=*insert video id*_ECXA: -5

Anyone got any ideas as to what it is that’s causing that to happen? or is it that it’s just an alpha and it’ll be ironed out eventually?

Either way, this is bloody amazing, I’ve been wanting to watch youtube vids on the PSP for a looooong time! Thank you :)

Using m33 3.52 FW and the 1.50 version of this… it finds my wireless net… and connects… then i loads the program… and show the ” no video” screen… and quits

the 2.00 and above version cant resolve the “www.youtube.com” hostname..

took me awhile cuhz of all my problems and i finnaly got it to work, so heres a checklist.

-Make sure ur lan switch is on the ‘up’ position
-It dosnt matter if its WPA, i use it and it works fine
-Press the O button not X or it wi go bacc to the xmb screen
-also whe choosing a video press the O not X
- when it says ‘no video’ on the top and it gives u the onscreen keyboard, thats the search box. type in the video u want to view and it will come up with the videos it finds.

m33 users:

Its working…

1. Change your homebrew folder to 3.52
2. use 2xx folder of psptube
3. make sure you edit the cfg file and insert you dev id in the blank “” (leave the “ABC….” ALONE!)

For the people putting your “name” in the cfg file,

NO

You need to actually sign up for a DEV account on Youtube, NOT your username! Basically you will get a Dev name like: sMGJZNGgoRM, Not Manny or Socomm45 or anything like that, so make sure you sign up as a DEV

Extract the PSPtube from the 200over folder and put it in GAME352 folder (Set the Kernel to the 352) Now open it in the PSP and Choose an internet connection with the Circle button, it may say no videos, press circle and you’ll be able to search.

A ready to work pack just put in GAME352 and Run!

Controls

X: Cancel
O: Accept
L/R: Last/Next Page
Start: Pause
Select: Change aspect ratio (Original Size, Fullscreen)

@Gstrike- That’s a common problem and NekoMimi has stated it will be fixed in the next release (which will be on the 12th or 13th)

In case anyone was wandering, here’s a translation of what will be in the new version:

-08/12 Edition (it might be the 13th…)
-Added the ability to download videos
–You are able to download videos into your “favourite folder”
-Added a file mode
–Can play back videos in your “favorite folder”
-Have fixed the problem of trash appearing on screen when the full range of YUV is used
-Have further optimized On2VP4 IDTC 5

*I think its okay, but there alot of videos that don’t play so I’m investigating. I wander if you can use security other than WEP with homebrew?

So… since not one site mentions this… do you need a psp with homebrew to do this? I have a ver. 3.51… sony’s update, not the 3.51M33 or whatever… So spare me the “dude you’re f@cked” comments. Just please someone let me know, if with a normal run of the mill non-homebrew psp will this work? No one seems to mention that. I did everything and its not working for me… so want to make sure its not me doing something wrong, but rather that my psp can’t do it since its not homebrew.

Comment by d33

PSPTube=Homebrew. No Homebrew=No PSPTube!!! You’ll just have to wait for a downgarder & for christ sake stop updating with official fw. I bet the PSPTube is more stable by then!;)

guys…i found all the problems that ppl have…
If you are going back to the xmb screen, you are press x and not o. If you are getting an error and the video is not playing, press x to go back to the youtube screen and go back to the video by pressing o, do this step about 4-5 times and the video should start playing

Some more new features in the new version:

-I have dealt with the swapping of the O and X buttons
—-For firmware 1.0:
—-Have set it up to change the language automatically based on your system settings
—-If it’s Japanese, select is O and cancel is X
—-For all other languages, select is X and cancel is O
—-For firmware 1.5 and up it depends on the config settings (probably)
-Fixed the error in the acquisition of Network Settings
—-The error where it said that there was no network settings when in fact there was, is now gone
-Fixed the frequent kicking due to Google Cache
-I saw a sample and fixed the resolution of naming
-All of a sudden, the thumbnails have started working

for those using cfw 3.53, place psptube in GAME352.

for other cfw try creating a folder corresponding to your cfw version (3.03 = GAME303 or 3.40 = GAME340)

now if you will place that just in the GAME folder then you have to switch your kernel to 3.xx on the recovery menu.

Also try using WEP or no encryption, see that your router will allow your PSP to connect (assigning a static IP address or dynamic IP).

Developer account means that you must have a youtube user account THEN setup a Developer account (see My Account tab and look below the page for developer account).

Last but not the least, spend sometime understanding a little about the “brew” before pissing off just because your brains don’t get it.

Some people actually do something cool that just needs a bit of intellectual exercise.

:D
