Nintendo DS Emulation on the PSP (W.I.P.)

Don’t piss your pants just yet, it’s far from stable and doesn’t function all that well; however, it’s definitely a major breakthrough in Nintendo DS emulation on the PSP. NekoMiMi, who appears to be the same author as PSPTube, has based his developments on DeSmuME — a DS emulator for Windows.
Tyler Ilg has kindly been providing updates — commercial ROMs don’t appear to run at all, but the good news! Homebrew written for the NDS works! Tyler mentions 3 separate homebrews that load up and run; mind you, they’re somewhat slow. That’s to be expected this early in the game. Nonetheless, awesome news!
Props to NekoMiMi and all the other genius minds.
How to use? Rename your ROM to “test.nds” and place it in the same directory as EBOOT.PBP.

dunno if its more powerful… but N64 is definately easier to emulate…
The n64 has a 64 bit processor, thus n64. To give you a reference point; your computer has a 32 bit processor. So the n64 can compute information at twice the speed your computer can… To get the psp to run a game intended to run twice as fast is quite the feat. The xbox360/playstation 3/nds all have 32 bit processors as well making it much much easier to port such a system to the psp, but of course the graphics cards on the xbox or playstation are far greater and probally’ will not be ported.

Well DS IS running on the PSP thats a start right…
…I talked to a few people based on the development on this emulator and the touch screen is quite easy to code…
The analogue will be used as the stylus and the screen split in 2, gameplay on the right and touch screen on the left. When the stylus moves, using the note button will touch the screen, i know it will be awkward but right now thats the way to go for this emulator…
…Metroid will be IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY!!! however definately Pokemon, Resident Evil, Nintendogs etc could be considerable to play in the future…
Mic support is easy if you use talkman mic or the camera mic etc, it can be made to run overtime…

that WILL be awkward… PSPs and DSs arent that expensive anymore, you can pick up a lite for 130 and with the new psp, if ur rich, itll be just as heavy as a reg PSP!

This is seriously lame. Just like Allen said, both PSP’s and DS’s aren’t expensive anymore. What’s the big deal about running a DS on the PSP? Nothing, you don’t get the full experience of a DS if you were to plaly it on a PSP.

I can tell you’re a pirate thief… You only want apps that can get you free games so you don’t have to pay for them. This isn’t about saving money by using an emulator, this is about hacking a PSP. And that goes for any hack. Hackers dedicate to hacking not stealing. That’s why they did this. If they are smart enough to learn how to code, I think they would have realized they could buy a DS just like you say. But that’s not what they want, do they? Nope, they just want to hack. On the other hand you remark sounds as if you only cared about hombrew that saves you money so you don’t have to go out and buy games.

Wow, what a genius. A PSP is a Mini computer of sorts made SPECIFICALLY to play games. While computers are made to do thousands of other things. A PSP is only doing a few things at a time giving it more power to play the games, while a computer is usually doing at LEAST 25 things all at once.

I think you guys are doing a great job. A nintendo can be purchased for $20 at a pawn shop but you people still play the games on the psp. It’s about getting everything in one small package. The PSP is the perfect package for all that and more int future. So I say good job and I’ll be looking forward to future updates. Also you may want to use an external bios not included in the package just to legalize your software.

Well… Maybe a solution would be to have both screens displayed on the PSP’s one. No stylus, but be it possible for the analog to eventually have a pointer? Highly unlikely, but I know that the NDS resolution is 252 wide, possibly downscaling could work…
Anyway, just a thought.

dudes, this isn’t for the convenience of playing ds games on the psp, this is just to fool around with peoples heads. Obviously ds on psp will never work, but show a screen shot or gameplay of a ds game running on the psp and you can show your friends your “mad hacking skills” (and please, they crapped in their pants when i showed them gameboy on the psp)

I remember flames over the PSP-DS that it can’t be done, bla bla bla… Owning a DS would rule BUT coughing up an extra 50 smacks would get you GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and PSX altogether… Oh, the memories…
I think it CAN be done ! It may not be the same as with a regular DS touchscreen, but i’m sure a pointer could be coded to work with the analog stick. And by the touch of a button to bring up the second screen in front. I think it’s possible. :) Go devs, go coders, go supporters !

I hope DS owners can be happy with just playing DS games. While PSP owners can play PSP games along with the emulation of GBA/NES/SNES/N64 (nearly running full speed)/GENESIS/CPS1/CPS2/PSX/NEOGEO ROMS/ and etc all running at full speed. Oh how unfortunate that we PSP owners have to WAIT a little to do feats the DS WISHED it could do. Boo Hoo. I respect your opinion about the DS. But, the DS does have better official games. The PSP basically fails in the games made by game devs. But, the PSP is better for homebrew. DS just requires to much work to use homebrew. So please understand that both PSP and DS are good in their own way. It’s best to own both, PSP for homebrew and DS for games you buy. Thats what I do. And I’m happy. But the N-Gage suck ass hairs. Whoever buys one of those is a retard.

good job for porting it…but it is a project in vain, most ALL computers can’t emulate a DS fine…what makes you think a 333MHz ARM processor, with little to no GPU can handle it.

Dreamcast, Saturn, Mame (not good/complete anyway), PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PS3, Xbox360, Wii, or DS emulation (show me true emulation, not 2 fps). It also doesn’t handle linux very well, have a decent web browser, make toast, roll blunts, squeeze oranges, sweep the floors, drive a car, and the list goes on.

Full speed will never happen. Half speed may never happen. Quarter speed most likely will happen but the game library will be extremely limited.

hey this is a good idea psp rules ds is wack but nintendo got some original systems owell we can play all of them on the psp hahaha oooo and to that runescape fag u can play it jus search youtube and some program lets you control your desktop of urr computer throught the psp and u see it on the screen i tried the program and it worked but it laggs sometimes if u lik runescape that bad then try it its called “portable vnc”
