Update: Experiencing problems with WiFi on homebrews? Then re-download the custom firmware package. Now bundled within the zip is ‘m33wlanfix.rar’ — it corrects this known issue.
Russian hackers, who call themselves the M33 Team, have developed their own custom firmware based on Sony’s official 3.51 release. Much like the work of Dark_AleX, you’ll receive all the latest and greatest features packed with 3.51, as well the remaining underlying weaknesses found in the 1.50 kernel. Enjoy the best of both worlds! There ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it.
The installation procedure closely resembles that of Special/Open Edition (SE/OE):
- If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from “1.50only/” of this download to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME/” and use it.
- Once done it, or if you are under any Special/Open Edition, copy M33CREATOR folder to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME” (1.50fw) or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150″ (SE/OE)
- Download official 3.51 eboot, rename it to 351.PBP and place it on “ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/” or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33 CREATOR/”
- Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on “ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/” or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33 CREATOR/”
- Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute “3.51 M33 CREATOR”. Once finished, it will go back to the XMB.
- Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute “3.51 M33UPDATE”. You’ll have to press X to agree to the installation.
- When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.
- Enjoy your 3.51 M33 ;)

i dont know why people always upgrade to the latest official sony firmware, then ask help re-upgade to custom firmware. can’t blame to for their curiosity lolz.
you’re stuck @ 3.51 Sony FW, wait for someone makes a 3.60 or 4.00 downgrader. then upgrade to CFW’s.
my PSP originally had official 3.11 firmware, i waited months not to upgrade until these guys made a 3.50 downgrader using Lumines 1 game. im happy now with my PSP.
fw3.11 > 3.50 > 1.50 > 3.40 OE-A > 3.51 M33

Just gt Tiger Woods 08 and have found it to be for firmware 3.40 My psp is a TA-082 motherboard psp at Dark Alex’s 3.03 OE-A firmware version. Just wondering if i could do this upgrade to play my game or is htere a different upgrade 4 my psp.

I installed this firmware an hour ago and all is working great…. only bug I have is when I thought I was selecting blue colour theme 4th from the top… it was actually suppose to be the ‘pink’ theme but ends up as being a ‘blue/pink’ theme… the rest are fine… otherwise this is a great custom firmware….

You need to go back to your mem card and Select 3.51 Updater then your done and you will be on 3.51
why would anyone that ever wants homebrew ever update to a non downgradeable firmware… You need to stop suggesting that, your probly po’d because you was one of those fools that decided to update yourself to 3.51 as protest against dax leaving. So suck it up and stfu.

It came quick because dark_alex is M33 he just renamed himself because sony was sending him threating letters.
And who’s paranoid ass did you pull that one out of? Last I heard of Dark_Alex - he wanted to quit while he was ahead simply because he noticed what happened to the PS3 hackers.
I don’t think that’s the case, just changing his nick won’t make him less vulnerable. Unless he actually went to Russia and is working as a hermit… but he wouldn’t do that for us, would he??

I’ve just flashed this, I’ve tested it… generally, I would say quite thoroughly. It’s good.
It all works. The people who brick, I personally think are morons, who don’t know what they’re doing. But, there are different circumstances.

Some people have been experiencing slight problems, in the xmb, like… photos, music, and movies freezing, and then shutting off.
But, I can say for myself, that I’ve been thoroughly testing it, and it’s all good here. I would say this update is totally safe, and I recommend it.

Hey, I for one, recommend upgrading. It’s quite good, and it’s so far reliable. I’ve not had one crash, or freeze, or anything. I’ve been checking out all sorts of things, music, video, homebrew, UMDs, and ISO’s. I’ve tested the recovery, as well as changing the CPU speed. Registry hacks and all. It all works, and I think you should update, but hey, you do what you want, OK?
im with you on that one ive been doing the same thing ive even checkd a couple of psx games all work perfect all my plugins still work like thy supose to so yeah go for it if any ones asking
Still going to wait, there appears to be bugs in it. I’ll wait for fixes to come for those so I can do it all in one shot.

Yes, if you’d read a bit more thoroughly… Well, I suppose I only said ISO, but yes, CSO works at level 9 compression.
Great Job M33 !!!! …I havent used this yet, still waiting it out awhile, I didnt like 3.40OE, I couldnt get half of my cso’s too load, so ill wait things out abit.
The only major bug I encountered is that WIFI in homebrew doesn’t work. So, no Pimpstreamer. I’m about to try Devhook + eLoader as a workaround.
Well, you have to understand, those homebrew apps and games were designed with different firmwares in mind. I’m sure we’ll see fixes and tweaks soon.
nice work but all i see is bugs . i think i’ll stick with dark alex for a while until i see some improvement in this custom firmware and i havent found any games that require firmware 3.51

this basically still IS Dark_Alex, it’s just a reverse engineering of his work, just like his work is a reverse engineering of Sony’s work, so in short, we’re still Sony based, just in a more kick ass fashion
plenty of ppl have reported bugs, however, others have reported not having bugs doing the same thing. remember, not everyone sets up their PSP the same, so some one trying something may not work for them because of the stuff they have loaded into it. so for the ones that everything did work for, they must not have the same things loaded, or they could even have more things loaded that could fix the problems by themselves. who knows. but i think you’re both noobs for not seeing the tons of comments going both ways. so choose for yourself.

hiya its crap is there anyway to go back to 3.40e or not when you put themes on it it just crashes when you press the usb connection
Hey, just wait it out a while, the things you’re trying to do, can’t be done yet, because of the reason it used to not be able to be done on 3.40. Just give it a few days, and then you will probably be able to do what you want. If you really want to go back, then you’re basically going to have to get the 1.50 and 3.40, use the updmaker, and then put the DXAR, and all of the others into the recovery folder.
same here i downloaded it this moring is soon as pspgen had it up and i havent found any bugs yet but one thing ive been trying to do is overwrite my 3.51 xmb menu with 3.40 oea custom ones but none work i dont under stand wats up with tht , and yea you can just do execute the M33CREATOR i did and it takes the custom firmware back to 1.5 just remember to hav the 150.pbp in the M33CREATOR folder but im still using the 3.51
actually, themes do work, just not the battery, and if your doing this thru CXMB, the USB crashes, no idea why yet

Yup. PSX games run just as great as they ever have. I can’t say this has FIXED any problems that it had before, but it still does play them.

When I try to delete something (a video) the psp crashes, when I restore a backpu of 3.51 M33 everything works fine again…

there’s no real bugs, if you notice they’re the same problems that ppl had on the OE series, some problems are fixed with another fresh install or just “restore default settings” and run thru the beginning setup process
