PSP 3.51 M33 Custom Firmware Released

Update: Experiencing problems with WiFi on homebrews? Then re-download the custom firmware package. Now bundled within the zip is ‘m33wlanfix.rar’ — it corrects this known issue.
Russian hackers, who call themselves the M33 Team, have developed their own custom firmware based on Sony’s official 3.51 release. Much like the work of Dark_AleX, you’ll receive all the latest and greatest features packed with 3.51, as well the remaining underlying weaknesses found in the 1.50 kernel. Enjoy the best of both worlds! There ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it.
The installation procedure closely resembles that of Special/Open Edition (SE/OE):
- If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from “1.50only/” of this download to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME/” and use it.
- Once done it, or if you are under any Special/Open Edition, copy M33CREATOR folder to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME” (1.50fw) or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150″ (SE/OE)
- Download official 3.51 eboot, rename it to 351.PBP and place it on “ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/” or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33 CREATOR/”
- Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on “ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/” or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33 CREATOR/”
- Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute “3.51 M33 CREATOR”. Once finished, it will go back to the XMB.
- Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute “3.51 M33UPDATE”. You’ll have to press X to agree to the installation.
- When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.
- Enjoy your 3.51 M33 ;)

my PSP originally had official 3.11 firmware, i waited months not to upgrade until these guys made a 3.50 downgrader using Lumines 1 game. im happy now with my PSP.

I installed this firmware an hour ago and all is working great…. only bug I have is when I thought I was selecting blue colour theme 4th from the top… it was actually suppose to be the ‘pink’ theme but ends up as being a ‘blue/pink’ theme… the rest are fine… otherwise this is a great custom firmware….

You need to go back to your mem card and Select 3.51 Updater then your done and you will be on 3.51

Some people have been experiencing slight problems, in the xmb, like… photos, music, and movies freezing, and then shutting off.
But, I can say for myself, that I’ve been thoroughly testing it, and it’s all good here. I would say this update is totally safe, and I recommend it.

Hey, I for one, recommend upgrading. It’s quite good, and it’s so far reliable. I’ve not had one crash, or freeze, or anything. I’ve been checking out all sorts of things, music, video, homebrew, UMDs, and ISO’s. I’ve tested the recovery, as well as changing the CPU speed. Registry hacks and all. It all works, and I think you should update, but hey, you do what you want, OK?

Yes, if you’d read a bit more thoroughly… Well, I suppose I only said ISO, but yes, CSO works at level 9 compression.
Great Job M33 !!!! …I havent used this yet, still waiting it out awhile, I didnt like 3.40OE, I couldnt get half of my cso’s too load, so ill wait things out abit.
The only major bug I encountered is that WIFI in homebrew doesn’t work. So, no Pimpstreamer. I’m about to try Devhook + eLoader as a workaround.
Well, you have to understand, those homebrew apps and games were designed with different firmwares in mind. I’m sure we’ll see fixes and tweaks soon.

plenty of ppl have reported bugs, however, others have reported not having bugs doing the same thing. remember, not everyone sets up their PSP the same, so some one trying something may not work for them because of the stuff they have loaded into it. so for the ones that everything did work for, they must not have the same things loaded, or they could even have more things loaded that could fix the problems by themselves. who knows. but i think you’re both noobs for not seeing the tons of comments going both ways. so choose for yourself.

Hey, just wait it out a while, the things you’re trying to do, can’t be done yet, because of the reason it used to not be able to be done on 3.40. Just give it a few days, and then you will probably be able to do what you want. If you really want to go back, then you’re basically going to have to get the 1.50 and 3.40, use the updmaker, and then put the DXAR, and all of the others into the recovery folder.
same here i downloaded it this moring is soon as pspgen had it up and i havent found any bugs yet but one thing ive been trying to do is overwrite my 3.51 xmb menu with 3.40 oea custom ones but none work i dont under stand wats up with tht , and yea you can just do execute the M33CREATOR i did and it takes the custom firmware back to 1.5 just remember to hav the 150.pbp in the M33CREATOR folder but im still using the 3.51

Yup. PSX games run just as great as they ever have. I can’t say this has FIXED any problems that it had before, but it still does play them.

there’s no real bugs, if you notice they’re the same problems that ppl had on the OE series, some problems are fixed with another fresh install or just “restore default settings” and run thru the beginning setup process

no but a couple still do like the impose_plugin.rco the volume ,system_plugin_bg.rco waves can still be changed with any i recommend that u flash a back up copy of the 0flash to ur hard drive so wen ur flashing new shit on and it crashes you can go bak
Actually the impose and sysplugin are the ones that cause the usb connection to mess up. Im positive a fix will come tho :P, keep in mind sony messed with the .prx’s again

I would not try to customize the theme untill a proper fix is released, the side effects of the xmb customization is pritty bad atm. Just give it a few days, Im positive a fix will come for the themes :P

I tried to customize my XMB and somehow I managed to get my PSP fully bricked, seeing how I imported my PSP from Japan, Sony US will not fix it and neither will Sony Japan, so I’m forced to pay $60 to a unbricking service on eBay. :(

There are a few minor glitches with some customization or so i hear, one of them is that with certain custom themes the USB Connection wont work anymore from XMB, i have read other things as well..

3.40 OE-A doesn’t require a UMD if you change the settings thru recovery mode, and i haven’t tested the No UMD in this, but i’m sure it has the same capability as 3.40
my umd drive broke two week ago the only games i cant play are big streaming games like GTA and MGS PO.yes it sucks ass but if it was down to sony it would be useless
this all seems nice, but can this firmware use that official sony plugin (9660.prx or sumtin like that) for isos. i read about the plugin somewhere. these russian hackers must be pretty good considering that when dax made custom firmwares the 1.5 and “new” firmware were combined to make a data.DXAR and when the 3.51 M33 is compiled it makes a .PSAR file (the file used in official sony updates), its almost as if sony made it…..

too all who have been having problems. It he xmb mods that are causing most of your problems. Flush them out. I don’t use themes personally so i didnt have much problem other than the internet browser not launching. But going in to settings and restoring defaults fixed everything up nicely. :-)

Why would you upgrade to 3.51 M33? There is absolutely no need to upgrade to 3.51 at this point. The only thing 3.51 has is the 3.50 exploit patch..pretty stupid to upgrade from 3.40OE-a and lose most xmb theme compatibility. I won’t upgrade until God of War comes out and I find that it requires 3.51 to run..in that case i’ll have to choice but to upgrade to M33 CFW. However, for now im playing it safe and staying at 3.40OE-A (DAX Warranty/Trust). This is just my opinion though so you may beg to differ I suppose.

No, if you have the official 3.51 firmware your pretty much screwed at the moment. All you can do is just hope, pray, and wait for someone to maybe make a downgrader.

Ouch to sony, they had a lot riding on the 3.5+ fw, with big titles coming out using it, namely God Of War (using 3.5 and the 333mhz cpu speed officially).
God of war will shift units big time, and i had a theory that was the reason they threatened ol’ Dax. Ofc that theory prolly is posted 5 times over in any psp forum lol.

backup all your saved games and data to your computer and then format your memory stick. devhook is no longer required so just follow the 1.5 only instructions

Yeh finally we have a new Dark Alex! The firmware is great for if you need the 3.51 Kernel for specified games but not so good For just running thoes homebrew apps. I downloaded it yesterday and ran the update, It installed fine but after 10 miniutes I recovered my 3.40 OE-A Firmware out of preference! This is still a great download though!
when you finish with the installation,is it ok to remove the M33UPDATE_351 and M33CREATOR folders from the GAME folder?

I have a few bugs.. not all ISO’s work.. (bleach 4 for example will load the character select then Freeze at the loading screen before the match) I’ve tried down grading to 3.40 but it keeps the new options open and makes the downgrade useless. going back to 3.30 is good 2 but I just came back to this 3.51M33. Hopefully the bug fix will be made soon and i can go back to playing Bleach 4.

Yeah.. Can’t really get the PSX games to work correctly, and yes.. We all know to put them in the GAME folder, not the ISO folder. They were all working before from 3.03 OE-C to 3.40 OE-A and now they don’t, it is obviously faulty in this situation, but I have yet to find any other defects of this release so far.
I have been having some battery icon problems! The battery icon shows up but crashes my psp when I looking at the system information and umd update!

The M33 is a perfect mirror of DA’s oe. For now it is not needed unless you have PS3 and want the most out of it. You can up from DA’s oe if you have it and no you can’t down from sonys 3.51 but you can from 3.50 and under thanks to the great people at noobs “you guys rock”. One of the first games that will need the 3.51 will be star wars the force unleashed, the new battle front will need 3.50 as well as the lego star wars complete collection. If you get any of them you will need this. As said it is as safe as the beloved oe and the few bugs is something you should be used to if you ever had cfw. Go ahead and get it. Why are you still reading download the file. Is it that easy to occupy you. Why haven’t you downloaded yet.

in the Recovery Menu.. when configuration is selected the PSP crashes. I would like to disable alot of the options that are on (like skiping the Boot LOGO, and No UMD) but I can’t because of the issue stated above. will there be a bug fix for this? Also if U download this Custom Firmware.. know that the flash is permanent. and for some reason even when downgraded back to the 1.50 and upgraded to another custom OS the changes from this Custom OS are still shown.. :( hopefully there will be a bug fix for that.. but Honestly Awesome Job on this.

Stick with that you have now.. There are a few bugs in m33. I’m sure they will fix soon.. but it’s a PIA to have everything set up how u like and then this Custom OS overwrites you settings on every Reboot.

Hey, i just wanted to ask a few questions before doing this whole 3.51 M33 thing, and i will be very grateful if someone could help.
1) Currently i am running devhook 0.51, emulating 3.3 firmware. I now want to run this 3.51 M33 firmware, is it as simple as following the instructions right at the top of this page?
2) The main reason i want to install this 3.51 M33 firmware is so i can play the latest games. Is it still as simple as putting the ISO’S/ CSO’S in the ISO folder to play games if i install this firmware??
3) Lastly, do i need to change any settings in order to play my games?? And if i do need to, could someone please tell me what settings.

I got a few problems in loading ISO/CSO, try to disable the NO-UMD still give me problems. Then I notice many stuffs in the Recovery Mode was Enable. So I check in the Advance > Advance Configuration; and disable all the 3 listed there and it fix my problem.

Well its cool to have out a new cw, ive tried a couple myself, 3.11, 3.30, 3.40, other then a few new and i guess nice options for the popstation, and using 4th level of briteness, i personally dont see any reason to upgrade unless there are major changes, i look forward to checking this out, but unless its a major over haul from all the others, im gonna stick with 3.03, so far in my opinon its the best cw ive ever used, and before that was 2.71
well thats alright but newer games (ISOs) require a certain firmware so if you want to play the latest PSP game ISOs then you will have to upgrade, however, i am waiting to see if they can release a B-edition of this getting rid of most of the bugs within the next week, and then i feel i would upgrade from my 3.10 oe

To update, simply past the “m33wlanfix” folder inside the “GAME150″ psp folder.
I’ve upgraded my psp to 3.51 M33, and I’ve been testing it since yesterday, and i didn’t found any problem or bug in this new Firmware.
Its not “have to have it” firmware, since this firmware doesn’t have anything new, and until today no game required 3.51 psp version, but still I’m a big psp fan, and i like to have the new thing every time, and since i don’t like this “pimp my psp” scenario, i’ve upgraded, and i’m happy.

Same here upgraded from 3.4 oE and all is fine ps1 games seem to have been improved i noticed a big difference in nuclear strike no freezing no bugs all is good. Just play with the settings. It helps that i dont use any plugins i think.

DAX’s work to bring you this new CF but they did, unlike all the fannyboy cocs who kept asking for his source code to be realeased because they were stuck like pigs in shit.

It still has a stupid bug same as version 3.1, 3.3 & M33, If you format a new 2GB memory stick, you would have infinite corrupt game folder in games. then any thing you put there can’t be used

Yeah like im going to wait a bit since there arent really a need for 3.51 yet for me since they got nothing but security strengthening. I want avi playback instead of mp4 encoding all the time and better features. It looks like M33 is worth it being able to go to 3.51 and to 1.5 but ill stick with 3.30 oea a bit longer since all the games rite now go upto 3.3 for now. If anything ill change to this fw when the new slim psp comes out so ill have a cool psp with the best cfw available. o yea and i heard u need the .18 rev B cwcheat to make the thing work. and y do all the oe type fw’s require to upgrade from 1.5? O and I thought DAX was a french guy wtf is he doing in spain? And I wonder if hes like hiding from the Sony hitmen or something? They must have put a hit out on DA why would he leave us without giving us the best fw? I hate the ppl that like DS more than psp they suk and so simple minded. dont even know how complex the psp truly is..

I just updated to the 3.51 M33 firmware. The update was going well but now I have a problem with loading of the games on my memory stick. As soon as I try to open the memory stick folder in the game XMB my psp freezes and shuts down after 15 seconds. Anyone with the same problem??

hey. i just bought a PSP from a shop. brand new and its version was 3.40 OE-A and just now i upgraded it to 3.52 m33-2. however, it still cant play games like NHL or super pocket tennis. the thing is, my friend’s version history is exactly the same and he has absolutely no trouble playing those games. what do y’all think?
