Quake 2 Multiplayer for the PSP – Beta 2 Released

Start fraggin’! Coming from Emergency Exit, here is McZonk’s release of Quake 2 Multiplayer for the PSP! Vast improvements are packed with Beta 2 –
- .pak File Support
Quake 2 has a simple archive format called pak. I have added support for pak files. This will decrease the copy to memory stick rapidly. It also increases loading time a little bit. I have rewritten the memory management for those archive and they use much less memory. So it is acceptable to use them.- Sound
I have implemented sound in Quake 2 now. It is still very buggy and slow. Exspecially the sound during the id logo is pretty ugly because a lot of power is used for decoding the video data. But during the game it is very nice even if not all sound data is loaded so far.- Clipping
As I already explained in another post psp hardware clipping is implemented very badly. So you need to correct it in software. In the previous Quake 2 versions I did this with some flimsy tricks. So I never looked as bad as on the first screenshot, but this is the result of pure hardware clipping on the handheld.- Flipscreen support
You can set gu_flipscreen 1 in the console to turn around the psp viewing by π (180°). So you can hold the psp upside down. I implemented this because I want to make Quake 2 as configurable as possible, but it is not in the menu because I think that not much players will use it and when you enable to it accidentally, it may be very confusing.

I got the first beta, and lemme tell you, connecting to my pc running eraserbots was GREAT!!!!
Only qualm is no way to set a button to mouselook.
With the one analog, I like to hiot triangle or something to mouselook as opposed to having it always on…
BUT
This rocks…

the fuck is up with this crap it gets to loading and when it loads client 0 the damn things just shuts off my psp, the fuck!!!! i got those two folders the percentage and the other one in game 150 so whats up with this crap?????

I don’t have quake 2 anymore apparently, just got my girlfriend a psp and we’ve been on a multiplayer bender, gotta love oe’s, thanks to that i can make iso’s of my legally owned and we both play it, fantastic. This however is on hold. Which blows cause there are no good fps psp games?

You’ll have to connect to an internet vanilla (or bots) quake 2 server on a pc.
But yes, it works over lan and tc/pip.

nope, you gotta downgrade, hurry up and rent/buy lumines. downgrade to 1.5 and then upgrade to CFW 3.03 OE-C!
This is a homebrew, you cannot run it with the original firmware. You need to downgrade.
wow, i wasnt expecting that! haha awseome, cant wait for the single player :D i was under the impression quake 2 was dead for the psp, despite the fact that the test level beta worked really well. cant wait to see how this develops, if the quake 2 engine is sorted out, it opens the door to all the q2 mods + possibly even half life. hehe cant wait! long live the scene!

even if they dont give a shit about HL, that dosnt mean it wont happen as far as im aware the map files for HL and q2 are the same (please correct me if im wrong) and they both use q radient- skip to the end – it is still possible given that quake 2 engine is working, that some other dev might try converting the HL maps – models to run in the standard q2 engine, any way, enough of this im going to go buy some pancakes
