There was a line of code in the 3.51 firmware that sony directed towards D_A He will not say what the message said but it must have been bad to scare him like this.

You know this is rediculous, sony should have 0 problems with custom firmwares and hombrew as a matter of fact other than piracy issues, but heck what is there to pirate all games “well most” on psp suck. I say we need to spam sony for this, mabey if we overload a few of their servers we will get a point through. I am officially going to take my bussiness to nintendo and microsoft because of this.

Nintendo has announced they are alloing 3rd party devs to make apps for the wii. So why cannot sony allow homebrew on the psp.

I can tell you why pure greed, If sony put any message in the firmware it should be thanking d_a for improving their work, what sony does to their customers is rediculous and I for one am tired of it. I hope more people decide to show sony what happens when you mess with their customers, and leave the sony scean.

We all know that the psp is all that is keeping sony alive, if we leave they will undoubtidly die. They should know better than to spit on us now in their time of need.

there will be a new PSP hacker. Just as it was when Fanjita left, new hackers came along. My leaving is due to the fact that the Wii is such a unique gaming system, and it is deprived of many things. I, am swiching to the Wii community, and plan to make a PsP emultor for the Wii. My best wishes to future hackers.

All you care about is $MONEY$. You could care less about the customers and what they want. A certain someone was making the psp 100 times better than what it was, and you guys want to fuck it all up by threatening them. Well guess what, mission successful. I hope you know that half of the psp sales were because of this person. Now I know you guys are going to deny all of this but thats what you do best. I have had the PSP since the day it came out and the only good things have not been made by you, Sony. goodbye old friend, you took us light years ahead of what Sony had intended. if you could finish the 3.51 OE before you go that would really be a treat, but I know sometimes when a big company starts pushing and squeezing people, things like that can easily lose possibility. maybe you could at least post a bio of what fields of engineering you studied and what system languages you had to learn (like Java, C+, etc) in order to be able to do the things you have done, and maybe post some or all of the source code from your previous and current projects, so that the rest of us may try to pick up where you left off and carry on your work. you are a really great person and i admire you for all you have done for me and the rest of the homebrew community.

Without homebrew the PSP is a prity crapy console…Sony should focus on the PS3 because its fucking dying, fucking bell-ends are messin up big time.

I THINK I know what happened. Remeber the official ISO loader found in 3.51? I THINK Sony put that there just to create a legal ground to sue DAX. OE has ISO loading and $ony firmware never did but if $ony put ISO loading in their firmware I THINK they have grounds for copyright infringment or something similar. Just because $ony includes an ISO loader in the firmware doesn’t mean they will use it. So don’t get your hopes up.

The only reason people bought a PSP was to experience homebrew, apps, and more. no one buys ps3 for its price range and accesory prices. Sony has won the battle with Dark Alex, therefore losing the war. Losing customers. Losing their gaming abilities. It’s all about nintendo and microsoft now. But has any one thought this was a conspiracy? wut if Dark Alex was with Sony half way through his hacking hobby? i dont doubt DAX (i have 3.40 OE-A) but look at it. in a weeks time: exploit found, downgrader released, 3.50 OE announced, then cancelled? Somethings in the works. i can feel sony and their happiness. but now people will just go to DS lite and ps3 will die. while there will be a hint of life in psp.

OR: this all could be a mishap. someone hacked into DAX’s site and posted up that stuff.

im happy to hear that he feels he has gone as far as he can with the psp.

I don’t know why so many people are taking it out on Dark_Alex and Sony. While he has done a great deal for all of us with a PSP, and it will be sad to see him leave the scene, it’s stupid to go nuts and start swearing about it because it ain’t gonna change a thing. There are other hackers out there that will get together and attempt to continue his work. Hell if I had the skills I’d give it a shot myself. Sony should be thanking him to as without these custom firmwares, between me and my friends/family they would have lost out on about 20 sales. Theres no way id have bought a psp without homebew or custom firmware capabilities!

Not to defend Sony…but DA probably cost more money than he helped make. I personally don’t view PSP as a good investment (seeing as a great deal of them suck) if it wasn’t for DA and the like I would never have kept my PSP as long as I did.

My only question now is…what next? Will someone take up the reigns? Will DA let a certain individual see his source code? If this is the end of the custom firmwares…I might just have to unload my PSP.

You know… I’m kinda creeped out… About 3 to 4 hours ago the very same thought of DA leaving the psp hacks scene popped into my mind… 5 mins ago, I read this… and now I’m typing this comment. This is pretty freaky. I’m kinda feeling down but so is everyone. Although I won’t deny his freedom and liberty to do what he wants in life. That is our true calling; to do what makes us happy. I will always be grateful for everything he did. It’s because of him that I enjoy my PSP so much and I came to love it to the point where this is my 4th PSP. i hated to see Dark Alex go. But you know, it might be a good thing as well. Now game makers can finally feel more courage to make good game for Sony. A lot of ppls said psp game sucked because they had no good game, but possibly because ppl are using homebrew. I’m not only sadden that Dark_Alex is permanently leaving the scene but the fact that people are more worried about the future of their damn PSPs and not about the great achievements in which Dark_Alex became LEGENDARY for. Not to belittle Dark_Alex, God knows he is the only reason I still own my PSP…but he seemed to be pretty on the ball, so would it be outside of possibility that someone else finds out his secret?

Because of this, odds are now I’m going to sell my PSP. I was keeping it in quiet anticipation of Crisis Core…but by then it will be one of those games Sony forces a firmware upgrade for.

I can’t believe this I told my friend that he wasn’t even going to do 3.50 but to move on to 3.51
Happily, It’s not the end of the world. I know this isn’t the end. I thought it would be the end when there was no downgrade for 2.71 I thought it would be impossible but no, the Noobz team did their job. 3 times with Dark_Alex in all the source codes.
I’m happy to have worked to improve the PSP and I know this isn’t the end of the world. The world of homebrew has just begun there will be countless more things to be attributed to the PSP. Maybe he will release his source codes again and make things right. There’s no fuss. I see things working out in the future.

I realise why you have pressured the hackers due to the file type called ISO. and therefore copies of games are made easily. BUT the loss in sales in the games department iam sure could counteracted in the increase sales of the psp itself.

I know in my own town/city that a certain shop sold more Wii’s and psp’s than ps3’s on the ps3’s release date. eg 0 ps3 sales, 3 Wii’s, 2 PSP’s.

well Dax didnt leave because Sony direct threat. I was with him here in Spain when he told me that in his email under DAX Sony sent him a penalty for ps3 hackers and what could happen if they catch him. He didnt go into details but he also quit because of his new job in which i cant say due to tipping his identity. His job requires him to use computer exclusively for his job and he cant spend much time on psp. He now wil continue hacking on his own time but not publicly due to lawsuits. Im sure he wants to thank everyone for their support and hopes one day he may be able to enjoy what is left of his(not DAX’s) life.

I hope it is just a bad joke. I rember Booster left before.

hopefully someone out there can get ISOs working on Sony’s official 3.51. I’m no PSP expert but im pretty sure with some kind of small tweak to either the ISO coding or flashing the firmware just alittle bit we could run our own ISOs on the official fw.

I can’t believe Dark Alex is leaving the PSP homebrew scene. I don’t know what we are gonna do without him. He was the reason why i bought a PSP in the first place. DA is the God of the PSP homebrew community and he will always be God. Thank you for all ur great work man. U will be missed.

well, with DA off the scene you can announce the beginning of the end for the PSP. Sony pulled the plug on your console, I hope everything will turn out better for your PSP2, since you scared your savior away.

DA, you made millions happy. After hearing of your work, I decided to buy one of Sony’s PSPs, a big step being a Nintendo user for decades, out of the box it is a very lame and akward portable, adding your software makes it one of the most usable “mini pc” out there. I think It’s great you decided for you before the scene, sounds like a smart man that stopped having fun and helping a giant corporation for free. I wanna see what Sony can without you, they have not added features to the thing in a while and seems like they just wanna start using your ideas for the PSP, I bet more Nintendo Ds sales will finally put this thing to rest.
