Wow — two heavy hitters in one day! Mark it on your calendar folks; the day of earth shattering PSP releases, June 26th! First we saw Noobz’ 3.50 firmware downgrader, and now StrmnNrmn unleashes the highly anticipated Daedalus R12, bringing Nintendo 64 emulation goodness to the PSP! Can it get any better than this?!
R12 primarily focuses on minor compatibility and graphical fixes; there are no optimizations for this build. Super Smash Bros. (SSB) is now running much smoother than the previous Daedalus versions. With dynarec enabled you’ll achieve ~ 30-40 fps; still not quite full speed. Although it’s playable with frameskip set to 1 or 2.
StrmnNrmn also mentions:
Goldeneye is also running in R12. Although the intro sequence is running very quickly and with few noticable graphical issues, a lot more work is needed to it running at a playable framerate in-game. I think it’s a good start though, and something to get excited about for the future :)

nice
Whoah, big news wednesday! Downgraders and emulators, oh yeah!
Its Tuesday.
Haha! Best comment ever!
I hope that starcraft works properly
woah starcraft? that was release on n64? i think u mean starfox
Nono, there was a Starcraft 64
OMG KICK ASS!
sooooo…. what games work good enough to play?
Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, Super Smash Brothers….
those are all working fine.
The only one ive tried that hasn’t been very good is Ocarina of Time. Very laggy and still has some graphical glitches. That may take some time to fix…
SSB and Golden eye
cant wait =p
:D yay
sweet
lolz this almost gave me a heart attack because i freaked out alot!! awsome job guys, now on to downloading n64 roms.
HYPE
woah starcraft? that was release on n64? i think u mean starfox
nope starcraft was released for 64 It is named Starcraft 64 check romhustler net to get it
does goldeneye stop for anybody else?
no, but it is no t playable!
Too bad, great game.
on ssb seems like you can disable software clipping with little noticeable graphic glitches and a speed up. wave racer works at a decent speed also sweet!
This is Fu(king awesome. Not as much as I hoped for, but still a great improvement. Im always hoping more from this emu at every release, but I shouldn’t. I just cant help it. Im guessing that R18-R20 is going to be as close as project64.
I need to go get a new pair of pants.
LOLZ ;p
007 works about 3-5 fps in game was able to shoot the first 2 guys. not really playable but still great improvement!
Mario 64 plays GREAT! Anyone know the control layout?
YES! Two great releases in one day! woooot!
works well on the 3.40 OE-A firmware
how so? i’m confused on how to get this to work on 3.4 oe
PUT THE FILES IN PSP/GAME150
does it run full speed in super mario 64?
For the most part…When there’s lots of enemies, it slows down a bit, but it’s still playable.
Noobz are the real heros…
Thanks even though I have OE
Cheers for people who have 3.50 :)
good week both dg and r 12hell yea
when people say full speed…….does that mean with sound ??
for the most part in Mario 64.Other games on the other hand >_>
ssb works without choppy frames however it is still too slow for me, but it is playable, and goldeneye is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to laggy to play properly, it’s runnin at around 5 fps for me in game
I just set SSB to skip 3 frames and it runs great for me. Its better if its just 1v1
Goes to show how much this emulator has come, I have a feeling they will be able to push to near full speed with sound, lets just hope! ^_^
BTW, Did anyone try Conker’s Bad Fur Day?
Never mind, dosen’t load, Thats a beefy game though so may be awhile =(
what is the difference between DevHook Supported 1.62 IE-D Update2 and Custom Firmware 3.40 OE. ANd what is HEN?
DevHook supported 1.62 IE-D is a different kind of custom firmware - one you can add to devhook.
3.40 OE is a more popular and easier to use custom firmware with built in properties like playing ISO games directly from stick instead of having to go through an ISO loader. HEN is homebrew enabler. Usually accompanied by a downgrader.
thanks, you are the first on to actually tell me!!!
I ran out to the truck to get my psp, and I’m drunk as hell so STFU to everyone who freaked out!
Jerk…
VERY NIICE IMPROVEMENT!!! Now I can actually play SSBM without hurting my eyes. Hopefully, after you get all games running full speed, you can work on sound. But until then, I appreciate the work and effort you have put into this StrmnNrmn. Keep it up.
Conkers bad fur day — Takes along time to load up and when it does its FPS are really low
Star wars SOE — Texture - sec 5
frame skip -1
= no go, funny clicking sound that trurned out to be the main theme song.
texure = off
Frame skip = 3
It took about 7 minutes ,finaly there was a screen. as soon as you push start it crashes thow
hi does paper mario an yoshis story work on this release i have test it but doesnt work by me does it work by any one els
mario kart runs around 14.5 FPS in game
dude! WEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! about tiem they brang it out…i hope super mario and conkers bad fur day works gewd =]
=[ hmm…i cant seem ta get Mario 64 wrkin @ full speed… max frame rate i get is around 7 - 8 FPS …any ideas?
Wondering if any of the wrestling games work.
You guys are absolutely crazy in thinking that games like PD and CBFD will EVER run at full speed.
CBFD is around 64mb and the PSP only has 32mb so how on earth can it emulate the entire N64 system, the rom and still have enough memory? and no you cannot stream a rom it has to be loaded in its entire state. The Xbox had double the CPU power and ram and still didnt emulate 64mb roms well at all.
To be honest, our best bet is if someone down the line manages to port UltaHLE, which is by far the fastest emulator out there, it may only run 15 or so games, but the PSP could actually get them running in full speed.
Bottom line, dont expect decent N64 emulation on PSP….. period. Lets hope though we can get the tiny games like M64 which are only around 4mb to run fully.
Wow, you are soooo wrong. You can buy bigger memory sticks and still hold cbfd. CPU power does deal with emulation power, but thats just it, emulation. Porting emulators is a bad idea when it come to the psp. Just look at the Gameboy Advanced Emulators. The best windows/linux/mac gba emulator is vba, when ported to the psp it could go much farther than a quater of the speed. Then comes along GPSP with it’s high compatibility and full fps games. Basically, the emulator has to be written so that is uses software to emulate hardware on the psp. Daedalus is getting far with this emulator and porting UltraHLE (which is btw not the best emulator) will not be able to run on the psp very well.
You can get 4gb memory stick but the PSP still only has 32mb of internal ram, the rom needs to be loaded fully into the memory, unless they can use virtual memory to somewhat use the MC as ram itself it wont happen (and doing that is extremly difficult itself), UltraHLE isnt the best i agree, however it IS the fastest emulator and the least power hungry and our best chance of getting something running full speed.
Qoute from Will Roger:
“CBFD is around 64mb and the PSP only has 32mb so how on earth can it emulate the entire N64 system, the rom and still have enough memory”
Oh look at boy genius here. You dumb fuck, you just made a complete mockery of yourself. Get the fuck out.
He’s talking about RAM. The PSP only has 32 MB of RAM. Thus, you cannot fit a 64 MB game into RAM, let alone the emulator itself.
Thwe only Dumb fuck here is you! Doushebag
Okay, you have a 64 gallon container…..now pour ALL contents without spilling a single drop into a 32 Gallon container.
I may not know much about the PSP hardware, per say, but Memory Stick, and Internal RAM have nothing to do with one another. For emulation you are 100% dependent on internal RAM for speed. If you can’t fit the application AND the ROM into memory, you will not be able to reach 100% speed…
Xbox emulated full speed.
Name me one 64mb game it did and i will agree with you.
It emulated everything under 64mb like Mario 64, Waverace fine, CBFD was slow, PD was horridly slow because of the high res textures, RE:2 didnt boot, need i go on?
Niether did pokemon or mario world or metriod for the gba on vba for psp. But GPSP changed all that.
The amount of memory a game takes has nothing to do with it running or not.
so can we now save games??
wat the f u ck are you talking about with the 32 mb thing??? are you freakin retarded? btw seeing smash bros. on my psp made me almost cry, no matter what the speed.
the amount of mem
I jerk off with my PSP in my hand, i love PSP!!!
wow nice =] *thumbs up* me 2
wow big jump towards the next step of n64 full speed
Is there anything special I have to do to get it to work? I am on 3.03OE and I can open Daedalus but when I try to load a ROM it just sits there trying. Am I missing something?
mek sure your useing the right roms like the mario ones said above! but thats about it.
Can we save now??
i don’t understand what you guys are talking about on saving games. mario kart and mario 64 save for me. maybe only some people get the problem
It’s working very good, thanks:)
works good in my ipion i used to not be able to save but noe i can p.s. so is the n64 emu on xbox any good play games like dk64 on it i wana buy 1 email me at pigfat@comcast.net and if u have questions on how to put this emu on psp my aim is pigfat333
can u do ingame saving? like when u beat a level in mario64 can u save it?
OMG! …Still unplayable.
Get Resident Evil 2 to play at 60+ fps then I will be impressed.
Then I guess you will never be impressed. You and people like you are complete assholes and have no idea how much effort it takes to even get to the title screen of an N64 game on the PSP. by you saying your not impressed is not going to help Resident Evil run at 60+. So stop being a jerk off and stop spoiling it for everyone.
i’ ve been waching this emulator grow since the very begining and its always the same reaction every time theres a new release. You cant expect miracles. This isent a huge a company backing this emulator up with a couple dozen coders behind them. Its 1 frigen guy. So relax , be patient, evetually its going to come around .
Agreed.
Can someone please tell me why in the hell this emulator runs even slower than my R11? What the hell is wrong? To make matters worse, it has to take a loading breaking every 5 seconds and the frame rate is terrible on EVERY game. Mario 64 worked much better for me last time, so something must be wrong.
To specify, Mario 64 runs at a PATHETIC 3.4 frames per second, while on R 11 There were certain areas in the game that ran full speed With sound. What the feck is going on with this piece of shit?
Go smoke a cock. seriously!
I mean you must fucking stupid.
Have you played SSB? Complete difference.
Give it some time you peice of shit jerk off, or make your own emulator, you’d probably find out a fucking hard that shit is and want people to show respect for work like this.
You obviously didn’t read my comment did you? And yes, I “Must fucking stupid” because I can clearly see when an emulator somehow is working slower for me than it is for everyone else. All I was stating was that Games that used to run fast for me in the last release (such as Mario 64, or Micro Machines) now run as if they were from Daedelus 1 or 2. Quit giving me a hard time because you can’t offer a legitimate reason why the hell this program is having this behavior.
nice work on mario 64 and mario kart both runnig pretty good.
nice to see goldeneye and ssb working keep up the work.
What the hell are you talking about? Am I the only one who has Mario 64 running at 3.4 FPS WITH SOUND DISABLED?!!?!?! How on earth are people considering that GOOD?!
Your not,
I havent even botherd with R12, since apperntly all it does is make SSB run at 60% speed but has broken other games.
I have R11 and M64 without sound ran at around 95-60% speed depending on whats going on the screen, your best bet is to try that.
Well that’s genius! “Hey! Let’s make some slight improvements for ONE game that’ll sacrifice playability of all the other games!” Absolutely brilliant….
That being said, I could care less about SSB or Goldeneye being playable. Why on Earth do people prefer playing the original Smash Bros over much better 64 games anyways? I don’t see why they don’t run with the ball and improve speeds for ALL games that have already been working great so far, instead of focusing on one game that is still a chore to play and isn’t even that good to begin with. Frankly, I don’t think Goldeneye or Smash Bros will ever be 100%, but Mario 64 was almost there and I’d rather them focus their energy on something worthwhile like that. I feel like this release is such a waste. Looks like I’ll have to go back to R11 :(
okay heres my take. porting is just not the answer when it comes to the psp. that lesson was learned with gpsp. my take is that if deadalus is written correctly itll support basic game like mario 64. NO WAY IS IT POSSIBLE TO RUN CBFD. but i dont think it should be called a pipe dream. people just expect too much. im satisfied with mario 64(which runs faster on r12 for me, must be a rom problem). now the ram issue could be solved somehow if it could be virtualized, it is a posibility.
FFS will you noobz stop making a release of Daedulus every fukn month, First R9 everyone was rapt but it was shite, then R10 just a quick rush, same thing up to R12. STOP RUSHING and take your time to make a emu that is like Project 64 which runs all games and not @ bloody 5 fps JEEBUS!
I agree also with Drop, i sorta take back my previous comment. Notice that with every Daedulus its just a rush, like Drop said noobz take your time and develop a fully functional Daedulus.
Yea Drop is rite, But can SOMEONE TELL ME IF THE DOWNGRADER FOR 3.50 WORKS ON MY GOLD JAP PSP.
drop… you are not much of a grateful person LOL, but however you are right. But there will definately be an improvement in Daedulus in the future, but the question is how many R’s will it be?
Hopefully none concerning Daedulus,
N64 on PSP is a pipe dream, especially with this emulator due to limitations, feel free to rant on about being ungreatfull at peoples views, since poor old princess you seems to get very upset and enjoy playing your 85-10% full speed N64 games without sound, because out of all the people that have it how many do you honestly think will actually play it? giving ‘credit’ isnt going to make it run any better.
and funny how memory according to you isnt a problem, yet the Xbox had to use VMM to bump its ram up to 90 odd megs yet apperntly 32mb is just fine LMFAO. Oh sorry i forgot about the secret flux capacitor inside it which only caches the textures it needs on the screen, thats why the Dreamcast has a N64 emulator too, oh wait.
Niceeeeee. But honestly i can do better.
great work ,this emu is improving ,golden eye now runs and this is a big break through as far as im concerned ,i have however noticed that the emu runs slower on r12 but this is perfectly normal as new fixes are in place other things may break but on a high note these issues normaly are easy noticed and fixed as well.
i still dont understand tho ,can pj64 be ported to psp ? if so why hasent it been done yet ,or is it the case that it wouldnt matter if this was pj64 or daedalus becase everything is down to the graphics and audio plugin ? i dont think so tho
as working on speed issues amd memory latency
would indicate the author is trying to optimise daedalus core for psp.
this then still brings me back to plugins ,cant the author try different plugins or is this a silly idea
seeing as the core is still at an early stage for optimisation.
one thing is for sure ,daedalus psp is impressive
even at 1fps but i really wish the author would
take the top 10 n64 games and get them all running first ,doesnt matter if they are 1fps as long as they run ,dont crash after title screen
and obviously dont have major graphics glitches.
Its not really a plugin issues, the main problem with PJ64 is it requires alot of raw power and ram to get going, It requires atleast a 800mhz CPU and 128mb of ram, so to try and get it running on a 333mhz and 32mb of ram machine just aint going to happen soon.
As i said before, our only hope to get a good N64 emulator is if someone ports over UltraHLE, it only requires a 400mhz CPU and is by far the best chance to be able to play atleast some games with full speed and sound.
I have no doubt that someone will, however usually in the scene the easy stuff gets ported first and the harder stuff last when there isnt anything left.
Good work, But Ill wait..and keep waiting for something else. I cant play choppy games. Amazing work nonetheless!!!
I see jackasses on both sides. Be thankful that someone is working on this at all.
Shut the fuck up, naysayers… He’s done what seemed impossible.
Nothing’s perfect.
Read his goddamn blog before you start polluting these threads with your worthless fucking opinions.
He’s got the issues in mind, he’s just trying to provide something FUN to play with, and he’s not getting a grade or money for his work.
So… STFU and play or don’t.
In fact… Just STFU
“Read his goddamn blog before you start polluting these threads with your worthless fucking opinions.”
You mean like that one? Best bet is to cover your eyes so you cant read it if it bothers you so much :)
Does this work with 3.40 oe-a ? (Sorry im a newby)
