A minor update… A message to foreign readers… It would seem the Illuminati exploit doesn’t work correctly when the PSP is using non-English settings; presumably it’s something to do with the unicode set while displaying the profile name. Set your PSP to English and give it a try.
Anyway, if you are having problems, especially with the European Lumines, then try switching your PSP to ‘English’ settings.
Devastation strikes! The “N00bz!” have yet again left the entire PSP community in a state of awe. Without a doubt, in the coming days, everyone will have the opportunity to downgrade, enjoy glorious custom firmwares, homebrew, and much more… This newly discovered exploit works in a similar fashion to the GTA save game hole; however, this time ’round you’ll require a legal UMD copy of Lumines. Read on…
That’s right - if you’ve got a legal UMD copy of Lumines, then you can run homebrew on your PSP - whatever the firmware version. That includes v3.50! Right now, the only homebrew is the Hello World demo released below - but in future we intend to release a HEN and downgrader.
- Check that you have an EU or US version of Lumines (ULES00043 or ULUS10002). Currently we don't have a version for the Japanese version, but we're working on it, as soon as we get hold of a Japanese UMD.
- Extract the contents of the 'MS_ROOT' folder from the ZIP file into the top-level of your memory stick. (HINT: If you wind up with an 'MS_ROOT' folder on the stick, you've done it wrong).
- Start the game, and as soon as it gets to the 'Press START' screen, press START. If you wait until the demo has started, the exploit may not work.
- The screen should go blank, and the exploit will start after a few moments. It doesn't do anything except look pretty at this stage - but feel free to enjoy the first homebrew on your v3.10 - v3.50 PSP

This IS the right way, dumdum. And Lumines is one of the most addicting games on PSP, so you get the hack AND an addictive puzzle game for however much your local games store is selling the game for.

I saw it for £3 in the bargain bin at my local Blockbusters store. Heh, not that I need it, because I bought a copy shortly (as in 1 day) after I bought my PSP.

It’s the first lumines game. so, go down to your local games store and buy it while it’s still on the cheap.

You cant play homebrew unless you downgrade. So i guess the answer to your question is “yes you can downgrade and no you dont only have to play homebrew”
Yep, it’s the first Lumines. I have no need to downgrade since I got Devhook for 2.71. It’s all I need. All I need is to be able to play homebrew and CSOs, I don’t need custom firmware.
I was also happy with Devhook, but nowadays many games require newer firmware, so I went custom. Besides, the PSX emulator is killer!
Thats a dumbass reason to stick with devhook. Try playing metal gear portable ops on that. Custom firmware offers so much more than devhook could. OE is the only way to go! Get your head out of your ass.

Hey is Lumines a good game, cause I love downgrading mr friend’s PSP’s, but I’m not going to buy the game just for that reason. So, is it a good game.
Yes it is if you like puzzle games. That’s why I bought it before I found out about this! This is a bonus!
You sir are funny - …I’m not going to buy the game just for that reason… - of course that game sucks, its old. But UMD with it is the key to a whole new universe for your PSP kid, so get the money and buy that thing. Use and store it good. It will be worth of a lot once.

People with higher firmware get the Lumines copy today itself or else sony will dispatch a team to vapourise the Lumines that is available in stores… and they will patch it.. And for god sake don’t upgrade to any higher level firmware……………

-What version of Lumines: The first one, there as of now is no patched copies, so any you get will work.
-Where to buy Lumines - Any of your favorite game stores should have it, including possibly BlockBuster. Try E-bay as well, but get it soon.
-Warning: Do not be stupid and upgrade because you think it’s cool. you want to lose your CF, thats you! Just don’t ask for a downgrade.
