New Exploit Found — The Illuminati! All Firmwares Affected!

A minor update… A message to foreign readers… It would seem the Illuminati exploit doesn’t work correctly when the PSP is using non-English settings; presumably it’s something to do with the unicode set while displaying the profile name. Set your PSP to English and give it a try.
Anyway, if you are having problems, especially with the European Lumines, then try switching your PSP to ‘English’ settings.
Devastation strikes! The “N00bz!” have yet again left the entire PSP community in a state of awe. Without a doubt, in the coming days, everyone will have the opportunity to downgrade, enjoy glorious custom firmwares, homebrew, and much more… This newly discovered exploit works in a similar fashion to the GTA save game hole; however, this time ’round you’ll require a legal UMD copy of Lumines. Read on…
That’s right - if you’ve got a legal UMD copy of Lumines, then you can run homebrew on your PSP - whatever the firmware version. That includes v3.50! Right now, the only homebrew is the Hello World demo released below - but in future we intend to release a HEN and downgrader.
- Check that you have an EU or US version of Lumines (ULES00043 or ULUS10002). Currently we don't have a version for the Japanese version, but we're working on it, as soon as we get hold of a Japanese UMD.
- Extract the contents of the 'MS_ROOT' folder from the ZIP file into the top-level of your memory stick. (HINT: If you wind up with an 'MS_ROOT' folder on the stick, you've done it wrong).
- Start the game, and as soon as it gets to the 'Press START' screen, press START. If you wait until the demo has started, the exploit may not work.
- The screen should go blank, and the exploit will start after a few moments. It doesn't do anything except look pretty at this stage - but feel free to enjoy the first homebrew on your v3.10 - v3.50 PSP

Yep, it’s the first Lumines. I have no need to downgrade since I got Devhook for 2.71. It’s all I need. All I need is to be able to play homebrew and CSOs, I don’t need custom firmware.
I was also happy with Devhook, but nowadays many games require newer firmware, so I went custom. Besides, the PSX emulator is killer!
Thats a dumbass reason to stick with devhook. Try playing metal gear portable ops on that. Custom firmware offers so much more than devhook could. OE is the only way to go! Get your head out of your ass.

Just wanna be sure that i got this right, so it’s possible to downgrade ANY firmware (including 2.81) if you just got the legal version of Lumines 1? By the way, it’s a bit hard to get, not many stores are selling Lumines 1, cause it’s an old game.

It’ll most likely be the same deal as the GTA UMD. It got patched, so now you can’t just “RENT” it, because there is a chance they’ll have the patched version.

You should buy the game kardomaster. The downgrader will most likely use an exploit just like the VCS game, you had to have the game to downgrade. Buy it NOW before it goes tripple or more cost once this news is out completely. I already have it thank god! lol

How can you tell if your copy of Lumines is patched or not? (just curious)
There arent any patched ones, as long as you have the US or the EU version it will work, im in australia and i bought it ages ago and i have the ULUS one, its written on top of the UMD towards the bottom… So mine will work, but i dont have any PSPs on later firmwares to downgrade, but its good to know :)

This is not a KERNEL MODE exploit. These guys have not accomplished what some think that they have accomplished. Although they have gotten one tiny step closer, they have only made a puppet show trick. DO NOT RUN OUT AND BUY LUMINES FOR THIS. THEY WILL NOT SUCCEED IN A >3.XX DOWNGRADER. Sorry mate im not really following the psp hack/develop scene. So I don’t know the reputation of Noobz at all. I believe you quite, but I’dd like to know your source of you erlier comment. THe fact that there is no downgrader can be coused by many factors. The fact that a code can be executed says a lot. Let’s hope this isn’t a useless trick at all.

Stupid question here. Can you get this exploit to work if you mix a PAL PSP with a NTSC UMD of lumines? Im 99% sure it wouldnt matter as the psp is region free. just coving the bases. Great work cant wait for the Downgrader. Anyone hazard a guess how long these things take once the expolite has been found?
it will take about 2 weeks for the downgrader to be made and then 3 weeks for extensive testing making sure the downgrader works on all versions of the psp then there is test to see if there are any sideeffects after all that is done Dark Alex will have to check over it and then lastly the FDA regulations department will have to approve the downgrader for psp owners. Note: it will take about a month for the FDA to approve but once thats done your all set
I bought my Lumines UMD yesterday for $14 used, now I’m ready to help my friends when the downgrader comes out

Grow a brain? Have YOU grown a brain? Doesn’t look like it. Anyway, Unless you’re stupid enough to unplug your PSP, yak out the battery, or smash it against the wall, there should be NO reason for you to brick your PSP doing this. As long as you follow the instructions, you’ll be fine.

There are TWO things wrong with that statement. How in the hell will Nintendo sue Sony just because they didn’t patch a hole in their firmware?! Also, Nintendo systems aren’t crap. I have a DS and a PSP, and I enjoy them both. When Hannah Montana for the DS sells more games than the leading PSP game, there is seriously something wrong.

I had a DS for a year, before I got my PSP. DS’ are easier to hack, and have WAY more games. PSP’s are more slick, and the technology it uses is sweet. I’m new to the scene and have already hacked 2 PSPs, so it’s not hard.
Is this another step to make a custom firmwire for PSP3000 or this works only on 2000??
