Looks Risky (Woo 1st post)
what can a modchip do that cfw cant?
even with custom firmware you can still brick your PSP and not be able to recover it using ‘recovery mode’, a ‘modchip’ is able to recover the bricks that custom firmware isn’t able to…
I’d be more prepared to take the risk of bricking and using CFW than spending a fortune on a modchip that does pretty much the same as CFW. If I should brick my psp, I’d buy a new one for not a lot more than the cost of a modchip.
Unless they become a lot cheaper I’m simply not interested
with UP, you can have 2 firmwares at once. thats what i have. it only cost me $145 and it is really useful.
I keep the latest OE on the PSP nand and 3.03 OE on the UP nand. I use 3.03 OE most of the time. i only use the newer oe when i need to.
I feel completely underwhelmed, wy would I want to pull my PSP apart and risk damaging it to do that?
We’ll, let’s just view this chip as an insurance for your PSP, as in case you totally format the NAND flash by accident, you can still at least recover it back. If you feel if you don’t need it, then don’t care about it and don’t comment. This is great for people(like me) who like to mess around with the flash everyday, to try discover something interesting, instead of resulting in a brick, and having to spend on another motherboard, waiting another week or 2 to get another board in, and continue with messing around. Instead, this can get you back up in minutes, instead of going through all the trouble.
For the very few people out there that this will help great… For the vast majority custom firmware offers the same benefits without the risk not to mention how late this is to the game cfw has been out for almost 2 years. So I just can’t see how this is a commercially viable product.
OK guys look, I could care less whether you guys think that this product is commercially viable or not, or whether or not you feel that you or anyone else needs this product (oh and buying a new PSP is more than twice the cost of one of these chips, and after paying for someone to install the chip that’s still less than a new PSP, even after the PSP price drop). This video is simply to show people the process of installation, not to give you guys a place to argue the viability or usefulness of the product, you have had plenty of time and place to do that prior to this, so please take that discussion elsewhere…
Telling board trolls not to argue about barely related subject matter is like try to get pit dogs not to growl at each other. It’s in their nature, and it will happen as long as open forums are around.
lol! did the bad guys on the intarwebs hurt your wittle feelings?
As Junkyard dog says below, the original post asks how we feel about it, we are just stating how we feel about it, if you got some vested interest in making this product look good then fair play to you, If you want to pay out £60 (plus postage/insurance etc) to get one of these fitted to your psp when you can but a second hand one for around the same price, thats up to you.
Is a post asks people opinion on things dont come on here berating people for giving their opinion, you may not care about other peoples opinion and we SURE AS HELL dont care about yours.
Hey guy’s JR is just alittle fired up because of the time it to to create the video for you guy’s. By all means you are welcome to your opinions. If you feel this product is not worth the price then so be it. I feel if you where looking for a cheap bricked psp on ebay this might be up you ally.. Thanks guy’s for watching..
the only gay thing is that they killed the song with remixing it.
which one? maybe next vid I’ll use it unaltered…
holy shit, yes. they completely killed the song.
Not remixing it, but not syncing it all the way, till its right on beat, they probably used Sony Acid to mix it. I didn’t like the mix at all. So I turned on my mix set and muted the Youtube music.
if i tryed doing that my psp would be a brick lol
The post did say “How do you feel about that?”
Can someone please tell me what this chip
offers that CFW doesnt apart from bringing
back bricked PSP’s. ie does it come with 8gb internal memory (I’d buy it if it did), or the
Ability to play PS2/xbox/xbox360/PS3/Wii/DS
Games. Please just give me a good reason
yeah it can downgrade any official firmware version even the ones that don’t have software downgraders made for them yet, like anything above 3.03…
For your 1st part of the question: Yes it can.
For the 2nd part of your question: NO, no ability at all, no 8GB, and there are no good reason for those questioned.
installing a modchip is easy. i did it myself on the old modchip. it took me almost 5 hours to complete it. i got 2.71 as regular firmware and 3.40 oe-a on second firmware. i bricked it and recoverd it for testing to see if it actually works. and it did its awsome. xD
This modchip is so much easier than the old UP chips. Takes about an hour of work, from I hear.
I agree that, unless you brick, it’s not really needed, but if you do, it’ll save you a lot of money.
Seriously, is anyone posting here actually registered on the forums? There’s more interesting discussions on this inside, c’mon in.
“I see dead PSPs.”
Some of them came from me.
Well…
First of all it serves to revive ‘permanent’ bricks – there are quite a lot out there
Secondly, you can use it for downgrading 3.11/above OFW
So….
…. Does it work?
We need to see a video of demonstration for proof justification.
Yes, it works, the videos are being released in multiple stages due to the time and size limits imposed by YouTube, and besides video editing takes time… the next video will be released in a couple weeks, I don’t have much time to work on it since I’m in the process of moving…
ATW by Daft Punk was butchered horribly.
Hmm, interesting
(trolls, go play in traffic)
Great vid m8ty ,i have modded a few systems in the past as well as doing complete sega saturn system mods ,takes time but it is very rewarding once you switch it on and everything comes to life.
My opinion of the chip is a good one as this chip can only really be seen as a good thing in terms of bricked psp’s out there ,and as time goes on there will undoubtably be more bricked psp’s.
The price of the chip should i hope come down in price as i am sure they are not costly to make and from another persons post about other modding abilities i would have to say that if you are going to do such a thing to your psp then why cant we have a memory expansion mod to boot as this would actuly make 99% of psp owners buy such a chip and yeh i would happily pay heavy for such a mod.
When i say memory ,i mean internal system ram
that the psp can use for homebru on a large scale ,this would be soooooo good.
anyways great work my friend ,superb vid and
its an eye opener for sure.
cool Idea I dont see why you wouldn’t be able to piggie back the memory like most types of ram do. only thing is the pins are on the underside of the chip i beleave.
ok ive bought the devolution mod chip but i need sum1 2 install it can sum1 tell me if i can take it sumwhere 4 it 2 be done coz i hav no hope of doin it myself
check some online sites that sell the chips, most of them offer installation services…
If you live in the south east (LA, MS, AL), I can try to do it, but I got to get me a stereo microscope first.
I’d rather just flash the firmware..
But with this you can flash as many times you want….forever.
Great job jr. Def doesnt look as easy as it was supposebly said to be.
hahahaha why is that music like porn music. That is some funny shit.
Wow! But hey, that looks so hard 2 do! i would try to but mybe when i knew i bit more!
I know serioulsy…i have tooken the PSP apart many times n if i take the moo out i would just stare at the back of it at the tiny pins i need to solder to install a modchip…PS2 was hard PSP is alot harder…PS3…theres only a nand flasher out there and that ainr that hard.
i have a psp-devolution modchip and it looks way to risky for me to use and i dont think the company will take it back so maybe if someone wants to take it off my hands id be happy to sell
soldering the wires on the board is kinda hard to me since i tend to burn my fingers.. I wear gloves now but in that video he got really close at one point, you really got to know what your doing even the slightest mistake and ur finger is burnt.. i hate that feeling. i burned my hand with custom comps and ps2 mods is psp worth burning my fingers?
i really dont understand when i go to the site it says its not a mod chip its some kind of programmer. could someone really tell me what this devolution chip really does exactly?
