Here is something a lot of us have been anticipating — voice & video calls via the PSP hand held over a wireless Internet connection. Unfortunately the initial launch of the service will only be available for UK residents.
Using a soon-to be-released camera and microphone, gamers will be able to call other PSP owners and some BT phones.
The software has been developed by BT and will eventually allow PSP users to call PCs, fixed lines and mobiles.
Initially the service will only be available in the UK and will only work on home or BT wireless hotspots.
Currently, there are around 2,000 of these situated in airports, railway stations, hotels and fast food restaurants.
Some day it’ll make its way to North America, I’m sure… I hope…

Thanks for the news tip, Dan.
Comments (51)Summer is certainly upon us as indicated by the lack of recent [worthwhile] news. In spite of that, Ac_K has released a handy PRX module to conveniently display a summary of your PSP’s vitals — CPU clock speed, memory stick usage, battery stats, temperature, and the present UMD.

Installation and usage is straight forward. Copy both “PRXInfo.prx” & “PRXInfo.txt” to ms0:/SEPLUGINS and enable via Recovery. Of course you’ll be required to add the corresponding entry to ms0:/SEPLUGINS/vsh.txt. It looks like this:
“ms0:/SEPLUGINS/PRXInfo.prx”.
The default language is french; have a look at PRXInfo.txt (the configuration file) to adjust accordingly.
Once enabled, press L+R triggers to produce the summary. Press L+R a second time to hide the display. Pretty simple.

Comments (12)A chinese manufacturer is toting their new product as a portable PS3, sporting a similar design to Sony PSP. mobilemag has a few pictures. This product is a total fake. So watch out for the sure to come e-bay scams.
Comments (63)Instead, what you get is a measly 3.5-inch TFT color display only capable of doing QVGA (320×240). On the plus side, this knockoff system boasts a 1.3-megapixel camera, handwriting recognition (touchscreen?), stereo speakers, TV-out, and “built-in games.” That’s right, there’s no slot for you shove in any UMDs or PS3 Blu-ray Discs.
Speaking of CisoPlus front ends, a week or two ago Quake returned with his all-purpose PSP tool for Windows — Extreme Link! As you may have guessed, Extreme Link 1.5.1 features support for kapoue3’s CisoPlus compressor. But that’s not all, there’s more! For one low payment of $0 you will also receive POPstation, DocMaker, and PNG Imager features — all used for achieving maximum PSX enjoyment! Wait! Download now and Extreme Link will act as a USBHostFS and NETHostFS front end too.
In all seriousness, this app includes a wide range of tools & options… Download and check it out for yourself. Kudos Quake.
At first I was a bit confused where to find the CisoPlus GUI; however, the screenshot below is worth a million words.

Comments (25)At last! kapoue3 is back with a new update, and this time it isn’t CisoPlus… Well, sort of… It’s actually Yacc (Yet Another CSO Compressor) — the front end now supporting CisoPlus! Haven’t you been asking for this? Ooooh, I think you have!
Now easier than ever enjoy all the wondrous features CisoPlus has to offer. Read here.
v0.3.9.0 also includes features suggested by Aldo Vargas:

Comments (24)Cast your vote for the dopest homebrew app/game from the PSP Hacks Homebrew Competition pool. Countless entries have made their way to the front page and now it’s up to you to crown the winner, “Homebrew Master of the PSP Hacks Universe.” Whomever is worthy enough of holding this title will receive satisfaction in knowing they’re the coolest, plus prizes. :)
If you’ve already downloaded most, if not all of these homebrew creations, then you may as well jump right over to this voting thread to voice your opinion.
Otherwise, here’s a quick recap of all the entries: (click each for the most recent news post)
Update: DeMoN X has updated his RemoteJoy GUI to version 1.51:
Tyranid has released an astonishing update to his development tools RemoteJoy and PSPLink. Used in conjunction with this new GUI app from DeMoN X, Windows users will now have the ability to display their PSP screen on a PC’s monitor via USB, hence the loosely used term in this scenario, “Video Out.” (It’s not really a video output.)
All the necessary instructions to begin using this wig-splitting setup can be found within the RAR archive — ReadMe-LibUSB.txt & ReadMe-RemoteJoySDL.txt.
Couple things I should mention… 1) You’ll require Microsoft’s .NET Framework, and 2) if you’re not using Windows, but Linux instead, read this detailed tutorial.
Otherwise, rock on! Obviously some things remain flaky — certain games may not work, and you may experience the odd crash.

Comments (172)silverfox has updated LeeSP to v2.2 the other day. LeeSP is an exciting 2D fighting game focusing around two popular anime characters, Rock Lee and Gaara. LeeSP supports single and multiplayer (two persons on a single PSP) modes. Unfortunately networked multiplayer (Ad Hoc or Infrastructure) is not supported. Nevertheless, it’s quite enjoyable — with or without a friend.

Version 2.2 introduces new characters, stadiums, and attack moves. And of course a wide range of bug fixes. Share your feedback and constructive criticisms below. Nice work, dude.

Comments (33)I was anxiously awaiting the release of a piKey update, and thanks to Bob Joe (for the news tip) I’m now updating my PSP as I write this… piKey 0.3, oh yes! Now supporting firmwares 3.30 and 3.40 OE. Fanjita also mentions piKey 0.3 includes small enhancements to deal with compatibility issues.
There are 2 main changes for compatibility:
- You can configure πKey to be disabled for v1.50 kernel homebrew (ie. homebrew running from the GAME150 folder, or GAME if you have OE configured to run GAME as v1.50). This may be easier for some users than changing the config in flash.
- You can configure a hotkey that will disable πKey when the PSP reboots. So, if there’s a homebrew or game that has problems, just hold down the hotkey (configurable as any key or combination, but SELECT by default) while the Sony logo is showing, and πKey will unload itself until next rebooted.
Huh, what’s piKey?
A keyboard driver for the PSP developed by Fanjita and harleyg. piKey aims at providing full keyboard control anywhere — games, homebrews, the XMB, etc… Supported are various infra-red keyboards and the ability to wire one via the PSP’s serial port (the headphone socket). Have a look at the included user guide (docs/user_guide.html) to get started.

Comments (23)coldtoiletseat (haha, nice name) has released a simple homebrew app responsible for carrying out useful day-to-day tasks. What better hand held device and application to have if you’re always on the move, especially when running from the feds. Fire up the calendar, mark the day you appeared on America’s Most Wanted, start the timer, calculate your funds, and get moving.
