RemoteJoy — PSP “Video Out” via USB

greg | May 17, 2007

Update: DeMoN X has updated his RemoteJoy GUI to version 1.51:

  • Added full credits to TyRaNiD 2k6 for Remotejoy SDL and Schrade for batch files and script files, tutorial, and compiled binaries
  • Added killall batch to MyBase.Load
  • Accurate process checking of USBHost FS
  • Added mode menu, Not completed.

Tyranid has released an astonishing update to his development tools RemoteJoy and PSPLink. Used in conjunction with this new GUI app from DeMoN X, Windows users will now have the ability to display their PSP screen on a PC’s monitor via USB, hence the loosely used term in this scenario, “Video Out.” (It’s not really a video output.)

All the necessary instructions to begin using this wig-splitting setup can be found within the RAR archive — ReadMe-LibUSB.txt & ReadMe-RemoteJoySDL.txt.

Couple things I should mention… 1) You’ll require Microsoft’s .NET Framework, and 2) if you’re not using Windows, but Linux instead, read this detailed tutorial.

Otherwise, rock on! Obviously some things remain flaky — certain games may not work, and you may experience the odd crash.

As far as i know, there’s 2 modes, the first is when the .prx files are disabled and you start them manually through the game menu, this works fine and you can navagate, but it says you can’t use for Video’s or Games. The other way (the way to play games) is to load the .prx via the 3.40 recovery boot menu, however, even though I’ve done all that, the USB host doesn’t connect to the psp…… help?

Grrr, i’ve been trying this since yesterday and still can’t get it to work :( .
I’ve got the PRX’s turned on in the recovery menu.
I turn on my psp then start up the app, follow the instructions, my psp shows up as connected and everything, but i get no image just a black screen on my pc.
I can use Vlink to get the xmb showing on my pc screen.
It’s only games that wont show up when im using the prx files…
Anyone know how to fix this?.

I thought I had the same problem, black screen and all. But you have to follow step 6 (Turn on psp, then go to games, PSPlink thing, then (%loadvsh, %loadjoy) to get it running.

Just for all you who cant get it to work…

First follow the libusb instructions to setup the usb link.
Then copy the files to ur psp according to the other instruction file.

Once you have done that to play games do the following:
Enable the two prxs in the recovery menu(you should know how to do that).
Then go to your game without running any of the files on ur pc or starting the psplink app on ur psp.
Get to the part you want to play at (skip the intros etc).
Then on ur pc start usbhostfs and remotejoy (whicheverone you want).
You DO NOT need to start pspsh.
You should now see ur psp on ur pc.
If you are using fullscreen and you see nothing press F3 it should work.
Hope this helps,
Ciesson

Effing Ace! Thanks for califying that for me, I kept goin around in circles!

Do what this guy says. Enable the PRXs, then simply start USBFS, and RemoteJoy on your PC, then simply start a game up. Works perfect on my 3.40. Note that the disply on the PC only comes up when your gameboot is about to fade away.

Comment by mr :x

1 start Start-USBHostFS_PC.bat

2 start PSPLink on psp

3 start Start-PSPSH.bat

4 type these commands in Start-PSPSH.bat
#1. cd disc0:/
2. cd PSP_GAME
3. cd SYSDIR
4. BOOT.BIN or EBOOT.BIN
5 start Start-RemoteJoy.bat

6type ( %loadjoy ) in Start-PSPSH.bat

games tested:
WRC
GTA: LCS

For those getting a connection and everything setup perfectly but for some reason you can’t get it to work in game using the instructions provided… Press F3 on your keyboard once you’re in-game. Works for me, just a shame it’s not very stable. Still, very cool if a little jittery.

This is a great app-props! I tested Lumines and Need For Speed Underground. Aside from the obvious kwirks I noticed that you can’t save or load a game so it seems that it will be useless until that is fixed - unless someone know a way around that. Also tested psx games and console emulators with no result. I can’t wait till these minor things are fixed so we can enjoy it to the fullest.

Again - great job!

Solution to get around the save/load problem… Load BEFORE you turn on start_remotejoy ’s. Turn it off before you save and it should be fine as well.

i have 3.4 oe and the .net 2 also. i didn’t like the way using steps 6 & 9 so i did it the other way it tells you at the bottom of the readme about using the plugins and with those it works fine. just open the .bat files you need, have ur psp connected, and start a game (umd or iso) and the plugin will start up.
