piKey v0.3 Released — 3.30/3.40 OE Support
greg | May 15, 2007
I was anxiously awaiting the release of a piKey update, and thanks to Bob Joe (for the news tip) I’m now updating my PSP as I write this… piKey 0.3, oh yes! Now supporting firmwares 3.30 and 3.40 OE. Fanjita also mentions piKey 0.3 includes small enhancements to deal with compatibility issues.
There are 2 main changes for compatibility:
- You can configure πKey to be disabled for v1.50 kernel homebrew (ie. homebrew running from the GAME150 folder, or GAME if you have OE configured to run GAME as v1.50). This may be easier for some users than changing the config in flash.
- You can configure a hotkey that will disable πKey when the PSP reboots. So, if there’s a homebrew or game that has problems, just hold down the hotkey (configurable as any key or combination, but SELECT by default) while the Sony logo is showing, and πKey will unload itself until next rebooted.
Huh, what’s piKey?
A keyboard driver for the PSP developed by Fanjita and harleyg. piKey aims at providing full keyboard control anywhere — games, homebrews, the XMB, etc… Supported are various infra-red keyboards and the ability to wire one via the PSP’s serial port (the headphone socket). Have a look at the included user guide (docs/user_guide.html) to get started.

sweet i got first post :D this could be useful for some people but im not sure i will use it though. good work hacker guys ;)
Sweet second post this is awsome ^^
so how do you actually plug a keyboard into your psp?
you don’t…not yet anyways, this is meant for use with infrared portable pda keyboards.
now if my stupid targus keyboard would just arrive!!! i had the palmone universal, but i sold it to a buddy who’s using it for his treo pda phone :/ so far it’s been 2 months since i ordered the targus one, but strangely, NONE of the parcels i’ve ordered from the states have arrived yet, including the supposedly free God of War psp demo! :P
What is the best infared keyboard for the psp? Is there one that is able to support the weight and prop it up like a pda? Don’t add a comment after this one that has nothing to do with my questions and Don’t jerk mah balls.
i wonder where i could find a WIRING DIAGRAM for the SIO cable. i would gladly bust open my headphone remote to wire a usb/ps2 keyboard for home hacking… infared ones SUCK arround here.
i remember seeing something about the headphone cable and how to split it up and crap to make use of the serial port on hackaday.com under the psp section
Hmm how would you go about using the keyboard easily? The infrared port is on the top of the psp so using a keyboard via that port would force you to hold the psp in a verry awkward position..or you would probably have to reach over the screen to type. I think it would be better to find a way to take advantage of the USB port and use it for a keyboard.
Or better yet..use the usb to hook up a webcam via the computer. I plugged my psp into my computer yesterday and went to the camera function on my psp and my computer detected it. Perhaps we could utilize this functionality and create a driver for the computer to allow a webcam to be used.
bitch asses i had first post bitch ass administrators
fuck you dumb ass son of a bitch!!!!!!!
all infrared keyboards meant for pdas have a sort of “easel” to hold the device at an incline, and the infrared arm has a half circle radius to be adjusted usually (at least the palmone does)
i plugged the PSP to my ass while updating this and i shit all over my PSP. now it doesnt work. im mad im calling sony they never said that i couldnt use it on my ass
kid u have some serious mental problems u and technology do not mix
im gonna put the power plug in my dick hole now and see if that works
lmfaooo..omg that was fuckin hilarious..both the comment and that guys reaction lmfao
can work over 3.02 oe a???
yes, works on all custom firmwares-3.01 OE and up
i have a targus keyboard…. how i can modified the keyconfig… my psx games doesnt work, and some home brews… the key config is wrong the keyboard dont have insert key or end…. any help??
Yo i cant even get the fuckin pi key download 2 work
That is because you are a dumbass negr.
Hey – not sure if anyone who designed/knows this is reading this or not but I have DosBox and piKey – pikey works fine for my menus/browser but dosbox doesnt seem to recognize it – the main reason I want the keybord is for typing in dos so if there is a file I can tweak or download that would make dosbox recognise the keybord that would be great
