Tankw00rst PSP 0.1 Released

greg | May 13, 2007

The release thread certainly made my job easy… Presenting, on behalf of the PSP Hacks Contest crew, MK2k’s latest — Tankw00rst… A multi-player “Tank Wars” clone written from scratch!

Tankw00rst Screenshot

Can’t say it any better myself…

Tankw00rst is a 2-10 multiplayer hot-seat strategy game and is a completely rewritten clone of the original “Tank Wars” game back in 1990-1992 by Kenneth Morse. Tank Wars is released prior to the more famous “Scorched Earth” game and is the base of the whole “Worms” game series.

Features of Tankw00rst so far:

  • 2-10 Player Hot-Seat Action
  • Realistic ballistic physics (including wind force)
  • Scoring system and Statistics

Kudos MK2k, well written clone.

You can bet that I definitely will improve this game until it has the features of Tank Wars 3.2 :)

are you kidding me?!? this is great!! I can’t wait, MK2k! with the features of TW 3.2, this will easily be my favorite homebrew game!

If you really can’t wait playing TW 3.2 on your PSP, I can help you playing it via dosbox, just write me an eMail (see the readme textfile in the Tankw00rst pack). However I’m not kidding, as a TW 3.2-esque game is so high on my own PSP homebrew wishlist, I just decided to make it by myself.

cheers!

Could be slightly improved graphically, but MAJOR props :D

i think i understand what your saying about the graphics if you mean replacing the tanks with more current models which would be cool, but i am also all about the clone as is although being able to put real tanks would be sweet. but as far as the rest of it goes the physics and graphics of when the earth falls is great and i think you could change the backgrounds just by switching out that image so that is pretty cool that you can customize some parts.

if its a exact clone or a clone with updated graphics its got my top vote either way (easily the homebrew game i look foward to the most)

Games very similar to this were released in the ’70s on 8-bit computers, and even earlier on mainframe computers. Tank Wars and Scorched Earth are just first memorable versions for PCs.

Still, it’s great to have it on something you can carry around in your pocket now …
