Razor — 2nd Analog PSP Nub In Action!

greg | May 3, 2007

Can’t stop, won’t stop, rockin’ to the boogity beat. And that’s just what the Acidmods crew continue to do as they stun the world with their phenomenal line of PSP hardware mods. Wait… Oh yeah! We cover mods too. (Look up — way up.)

CyberPyrot and F00 f00 showcased their nub (Razor) design just last week. As promised, here’s a video demonstrating how dope this mod truly is…

Commence the prototype… Lights, camera, action!

Don’t you just want one?

Everyone with posts such as “first comment!” “NUMBER ONE” should just be ip banned.
Looks good though it seems to be lacking in diagonal movements. Also yay ghost in the shell.

did you notice that diagonal movement is not present? that was the same thing that i was trying to look for. at this point the right analog is the same as using the face buttons as the analog. hope that they unlock diagonal movement though.

Like the video stated this is a prototype we are mearly showing you we where able to get it under the face plate. and it functions because we are waiting for the actual boards from china the movement is slightly limited as this prototype was made with a plastic board, coper conductive tape and conductive pen. once we do recieve the PCB’s from china we will post a Video with fluid like motion in all directions. We hope you guys are ready. And like always if you wish to make your own board we will be happy to provide you with the gerber filles :)

Ghost in the shell. Heh, the reason I quit playing it was because of the crappy controls.

Looks great so far but, unless they can find a way to redesign the control scheme of the game (an app running in the background perhaps) then I see little use in it for myself. Im sure Id still buy it though.

Dood..you guys over at acidmods are amazing! If you put occilator on a resistor slide…you can emulate analog movement by having the speed controlled by a direction and having the amplitude’s peaking control the actual button…of course it would be nothing more than having the occilator pushing the button really fast, but with minor delays, it might make for a sweet little addition to this mod :D

Comment by CyberPyrot
2007-05-03 22:42:26

LOL funny you should write that. We where going to do that with a PIC later some time in the future. Emulating analog would mean just slowing down the pulse on inner zone and speeding up the pulse on the outer zone..

sweet you guys rock I love seeing what you come up with next. As far as fps go brother in arms and call of duty are pretty good for psp. I just wish sony would of have been bright enough to include a second analog

hmm , nice work but unless you can use the standard buttons for commands other than direction as well as having the 2nd anolog present then whats the point seeing as psp anolog control aint that good in the 1st place,
i much prefered the ps2 anolog stick mod.

mabe an external program running that can dupe
the left anolog could be done as well as button dups as well but these games aint writen for an extra anolog or 4 free buttons to add commands to so i dont really see the point unless you hate using the 4 standard buttons for direction and yeh true the anolog properties would i guess be nice for the ability to walk at a slow pace or run but i think thats covered pretty well with other button functions.

ps.im a lefty so the left anolog as field of view
and buttons as walk/run is fine for me so yey this
is pretty kool for those frustrated with having to use buttons to look around.

nice work and pretty dam creative !

I am glad you like in the future we will be adding PIC to allow people to be able to program the nub. We have been searching for some good CFW writers to assist us in creating a mapping program to set up the controles prior to game launch..

No. PSP like PS2 sucks for FPS. I love my PSP, but no. Besides, my fingers get cramped up just playing a regular game.

Comment by CyberPyrot

The way the Analog Nub works is based on resistance. The circuit is always closed with a resistance between 15.0 ohms and 5.6k ohms for dead center when the resistance on pins 1&2 or 3&4 is raised or lowered would result in movement in a particular direction. This is why some people experience a runaway curser on some PSP’s if the faceplate does not have enough pressure or the contacts are dirty it will result in unbalanced resistance causing unexpected results in movement. An easy solution to this problem would to simple tighten the faceplate or clean the contacts..

thats a great mod and all..but i dont thins its something the psp needs..i rather just use the buttons….but it would be sick if you could free look with it in socom ftb2…like use the left analog to move around and the right to aim..that would bew sicck!!!!!! but nice job!
