Comments (20)becus25 and brethren have combined efforts to provide the community with a DevHook compatible version of Custom Firmware 1.62 IE-D Update2.
Maybe you’re a bit hesitant to re-flash your PSP with another custom firmware. But aren’t you still the least bit curious to see what it’s all about? Now with absolutely no risk of bricking the PSP (if you can follow instructions carefully) you may emulate 1.62 IE-D with the use of BOOSTER’s DevHook. It’s reported to work with an older version, DevHook 0.46.
Installation is actually a breeze — see ‘readme.txt’ for the quick ‘n dirty, as well as some necessary precautions to be aware of.

Comments (16)It’s out! Fetch it via Network Update right now (or below from PSP Hacks) — PSP firmware 3.50!
If you’re a PS3 Hacks reader you may recall the announcement of 3.50 which is said to include support for “Remote Play” over the Internet. “Remote Play” is a specific piece of functionality that allows remote control over the PS3’s XMB interface by way of your PSP hand held. Prior to this update users were only able to access the PS3 XMB over their local network.
Stay tuned for more details.

Comments (136)DarkPacMan77 was fortunate enough to have a virtual one-on-one interview with Exophase, the author of gpSP (gameplaySP) — the Nintendo Gameboy Advance emulator for the PSP.
Exophase shares an inside look at his development path for gameplaySP; how it came to be, compatibility issues, future possibilities, and much more…
DarkPacMan77: Have you ever SERIOUSLY considered giving up the project?
Exophase: Not really. I tend to see things out to a high level of maturation, although gpSP for PSP has come a decent way.
DarkPacMan77: Many people have complained about features that are “missing” in gpsp. What are your plans for future development? Are there any features that are in store for the future?
Exophase: Nothing that people complain about really, and the only thing that I know that people seriously whine for these days is multiplayer. It’s not terribly likely to happen though. At any rate, features have always been THIRD priority before speed and compatibility. There are still things I can do in both areas, so that’s where I will continue to focus.
DarkPacMan77: Is it entirely accurate to rule out the possibility of multiplayer?
Exophase: I wouldn’t say it’s impossible.
Does that capture your attention? Click the following link to have a closer peek inside the mind of Exophase… Read More.
It’s definitely a captivating read for hardcore gpSP fans.

Comments (39)Remember the classic “magic screen” toy? I think you all know what I’m talking about; doodle with the vertical & horizontal knobs, get pissed while trying to draw a smoothly curved line, violently shake the screen, and start all over again. That’s right — the Etch-A-Sketch — now on your PSP courtesy of developer webfeind.

Buttons assignments:
D-Pad Up -> Move cursor up
D-Pad Down -> Move cursor down
D-Pad Left -> Move cursor left
D-Pad Right -> Move Cursor RightAnalog U-D-L-R all work like the D-Pad just that there are 2 speeds of movement based on how far from center you travel.I.E.
|< --Fast Left---|<--Slow Left--|-Center-|--Slow Right-->| …Start -> reset canvas
Select -> save to ms0:/psp/photo/Sketch.png
Cross -> Speed high
Circle -> Speed low
The remaining buttons are unassigned.
Perhaps the gang over at AcidMods can put their heads together and come up with an ingenious idea to reset the canvas while shaking the PSP. ;)

Comments (25)PSPSSH now has IR keyboard support! Something I’m sure most PSPSSH users have been waiting for; I certainly have. ZX-81 has implemented Infra-red (IR) keyboard support based on the work of Harald Fielker, author of the PSP IR Keyboard Library.
ZX-81 mentions PSPSSH v1.0.6 has been tested with the Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard. I can also confirm that it works wonderfully with the palmOne Universal Wireless Keyboard. Don’t forget to open & edit “pspirkeyb.ini” to define the appropriate keyboard.
And if you need to ask what PSPSSH is, most likely you won’t require it. But I’ll enlighten you anyway… PSPSSH is ported from Matt Johnston’s Dropbear SSH server & client. It permits remote access to any PC running a SSH server — whether it be Linux, FreeBSD, etc… Ideal for system administrators on-the-go.

Comments (10)Booyah! DickyDick1969 sharing his PSP Java MIDlet implementation with the entire world! The initial release of PeeJay MIDP loads and plays the demo Java jad packages from SUN j2me. You may recognize the name “PeeJay” from previous news coverage.
How to use:
Direction pad is mapped to 2, 4, 6, 8 numeric. Right and Left Triggers are for the “java mobile game” right and left menu buttons. Cross is mapped to the enter/select key.
You’re able to add your own mobile Java games (MIDlets) by downloading the j2me devkit and installing via HTTP. Copy the “appdb” directory contents to PSP/MIDLET/appdb on your memory stick. DickyDick mentions there will soon be a networked install on PeeJay.
Awesome — absolutely awesome!

Comments (17)Need some extra bytes on flash0 to fully customize your PSP’s XMB? Or maybe you have your own personal reasons for wanting to do so… In any event, developer Derces has released Remover 2.1 which will do just that. Disable all the useless functions/features you don’t give a crap about; thus, resulting in extra space for the much cooler stuff.
Remover 2.1 features:
Disabling these functions will not hide the corresponding icons; however, it will render them completely ineffective. And don’t worry — Remover 2.1 permits you to re-enable these features at any given time.
The only thing you should worry about is tampering with flash0. As we’ve iterated countless times, any homebrew app writing to flash0 could potentially brick your PSP. Use with caution and at your own risk.
