PSP Custom Firmware 3.40 OE-A Released & 3.30 OE-A’ Update!

How wonderful! Beyond dispute Dark_AleX remains on top with yet another ball-busting firmware release. In fact, there are two individual updates:
- 3.40 OE-A, using the latest pieces from Sony’s 3.40 firmware update, and of course, leaving the underlying weaknesses found long ago in 1.50.
- Updated from 3.30 firmware to 3.40
- Security patch: Fixed a bug that has been in all 3.XX OE, that caused random data to be written to a location in lcdc.prx or (in worst case) emc_sm.prx ram space.
- Autboot that is missing since 3.03 OE-C has been reimplemented.
- Improvements in the flasher. It will now generate also the flash1 directories, and it will check that the dxar is the correct for this update, so no more bricks by accidentally using other DATA.DXAR.
- Secondly, but certainly not least, is a 3.30 OE-A’ (OE-A2) update — for those users who wish to remain at 3.30 OE. It corrects the following:
- Security patch: Fixed a bug that has been in all 3.XX OE, that caused random data to be written to a location in lcdc.prx or (in worst case) emc_sm.prx ram space.
- Autboot that is missing since 3.03 OE-C has been reimplemented.
Now, lets get on with it!
To install 3.40 OE-A:
- Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you
are in any SE/OE version. Get the 1.50 and 3.40 Sony updaters (of any region, because all are
currently the same), and copy them in the oeupdmaker directory with the names 150.PBP and 340.PBP.Execute the program, and it will generate the DATA.DXAR file. The checksums (althoug the flasher
will check for them for you):CRC32: CDA4638D
MD5: 9754F2CC0CBE2D8FE0DD009C90FDCD9F
SHA1: 6F76BB67B31EFF6FECB72D9D4AF443C793E1E521- Copy 340oeflasher and 340oeflasher% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you
are in any SE/OE version. Move the DATA.DXAR to 340oeflasher directory.You need 75% battery, although you can skip this if you pressed L+triangle while loading the program.
Note about pops. I recommend people to backup their savedata before proceeding to change them
(Sony has changed the savedata format, and they force you to change the format in 3.40 if you want to play them).
If a plugin to load previous firmwares pops appear, the savedata will have to be in the old format for those firmwares,
that’s why it is better to have a backup of them. Psx savedatas are in /PSP/SAVEDATA/[code of game]
To install 3.30 OE-A’ Update:
Copy the 330_oea2update directory to /PSP/GAME150 in your memstick, and run it.

So, does this update in any way fix PSX’s double-CD games, such as Resident Evil 2, from cutting off? With these two recent updates, I am just not enticed, as of now, to update from 3.03 OE-C. Regardless, great job DAX. Will donate as soon as some money transfers from my bank to credit card.

Hmmm, Rain, care to explain how you got it to work? I’ve tried 3 different versions of Leon’s disk (DualShock, original release, and Japan release) and not a single damn one has worked so far.

it might have something to do with the disc load speed if you set it to high it might override the crash at that point in the game or maybe not. anyway im using an origianal japanese version of the game i ripped it using cdrwin and converted it using zinga burgas easy pops 3 beta without customised icons or anything. then copied it to the mem stick, opened it changed the in game settings to disc load “fast” n just played as regular. youll notice toward the end of the clip that theres a save game there in jap meaning “claire game 00 saves 2nd round” you get this when you finish leons game i did that yesterday so i guess its proof that leons disc works too. if changing the disc speed doesnt work then

Go to recovery mode in the OE FW (after hard boot keep right transparent shoulder button pressed). Choose Configuration > Fake region. Here you can enter the specific region you want. (My setting here is “Disabled”, I have a Japanese PSP and it works fine with me, but I don’t watch movies so it might help you out here…)

Just upgraded to 3.4 OE-A, i get the multi-lingual error screen when i try to open the web browser. Anyone else have this problem? Everything else seems to be ok, and my internet connection is testing alright…..

It sounds like you have updated to an offical Sony firmware. Check you firmware version in system Information

Yes Final Fantasy 8 does not freeze anymore i just got through the Diablos fight without the game freezing anymore and it has always messed up during that fight in the old firmwires.

Just 2 let suma u no i updated to 3.40 OE-A and installed Duranium Vista from owfx’s Icon pack and it worked fine except for the icons under Network like Internet Browser. SO yea the 3.30 OE-A icon packs work.

You should have an ISO folder in the root of your memory card/PSP when you view it. If not create it.
I updated to 3.40oe and everytime I use the recovery menu to change some settings my wallpaper gets deleted and my settings remain unchanged…Any solution to this?

Yes, 3.40 OE-A is a complete flash, it overwrites everything.
I’ve got the wallpaper and settings problem in 3.40 too. It is pretty buggy still. Also NFS Carbon and some other games don’t start anymore.

Figured out what the bug is:
The moment you go to a photo and set it as background wallpaper in FW3.40oe it messes up the boot menu settings. So FW3.40 oe works fine as long as you don’t use background wallpapers.
The screwed up settings caused some games not to work.
i also found this problem, for me it’s seems that when you set the wallpaper, system write the picture file into the flash1 and for whatever reason its corrupting the flash1\config.se file, at the moment i don’t know whose fault of this, it can be the custom firmware OR the original 3.40 firmware also
so far i encountered when i flashed the new custom firmwares my psp hanged here and there, the solution was that i needed to delete from flash1\registry the files and with this current relase i seen that when i wanted to copy the two flashes directory i was unable to copy the config.se file, with the 3.10oe-c it was not a problem and with this relase when i was fixing the wallpaper problem(deleting the corrupt config.se) at some point my psp showed some extra menu like remote tv and other, unfortunetly now i’m unable to get back those extra menu points
Found the solution: Deleted the config.se file from flash1 root and after that it was solved. Weird thing was that I upgraded 3 PSP’s from 3.10oe to 3.40 and all three had the same problem. Luckily it is solved now.
So if anybody has problems just try deleting config.se (make backup first to be sure).
I mean the settings in advanced configuration were all enabled by setting a wallpaper as background. Disabled all these settings again and the games worked again but ofcoz the wallpaper was gone. So probably the boot menu and the wallpaper use the same flash adress in 3.40, I’m not sure if 3.30 has the same problem.
Tried FW 3.30oe-A too and has same problem.
I had the same issue when setting the wallpaper.
It would freeze up after a hard reset, and everthing in recovery would be enabled..when rebooting after disabling in recovery, the wallpaper would be gone..
Quick and 100% fix : “Restore Default Settings”
Something you should do after every cfw flash.
After restoring default settings, you will have no problems.
I have done that and tried it again and still have the same problems: The moment I use a wallpaper background the settings in the boot menu are almost all enabled, when I change the settings back the wallpaper is gone.

1)X and O are reverted (fixable throu recovery)
2)If you do try to switch the Jpn Font in order to have the space for custom XMB then you shall loose the X O reffernce in the menu.All you see will be press _ to continue.
3) For some reason in EU psp the top menu does not work.On us it works fine :( Tested 5 machines so far

I second that. I broke my first psp 2.80 , slipped out the hands. Bought a used 1 from a local store, It had firmware 3.03-OE-C. Portable TV was there and Playstation Spot. Now I’m at 3.40 OE-A and Would love for someone to come up with a fix for the Top Menu thing.

how can we update from 3.30 oea to this? do i need to downgrade then upgrade?
i think this relase is somehow crappy, i REALY REALY hope that my psp won’t brick during the normal daily usage, because right now i see no solution to fix the maybe corrupted flash file system
the other thing i’m thinkg about, ok this is a bit parranoid :) that if sony has a little brain then relase some firmware that interfere with the custom firmware
If you notice on the screen when you put the 150.PBP and 340.PBP files together and run the app, they are taking parts from them and creating the custom firmware from them directly. If sony included something in the firmware then it would be noticeable when someone inspects the code when a new firmware comes out.

Changed my wallpaper. > Shutdown > Powered on PSP > ran UMD Star Wars Lethal Alliance > Ran iso MK Unchained > Shutdown >
Turned on and held R for recovery menu. Setting are still the same way I had them set to as far as what’s Enabled and Disabled. Exited out, returned to psp and changed wallpaper again. Turned psp on again, no seeing anything odd.

got a bit of a problem. im on 3.40 custom firmware and i fiddled around with the custom icon pack. it bricked my psp but i used recovery mode to get back to 1.5 then i re updated to 3.40. now when i go into recovery mode the configuration menu does not appear at all. i have re flashed it numerous times and flashed it to different cf and still the configuration menu is nowhere to be found. also its permanantly set to japanese region. strange. any ideas guys???
Man I got to the same situation without the bricking.Just updating to 3.40 made my psp Japanese and no Configuration menu.And yes flashing to 1.50 does not fix it.Only OE firmware 2.7- 303 work the rest have no Configuration…Glad to see im not the only one with the problem…
Is anyone having troubles playing Gta vice city stories or liberty city stories backup iso’s becuase when i try and load them from the iso folder on my memory stick it give me the psp symbol and then goes black and wont start the game can any one help?
You neeed to turn off No-UMD and have a UMD Game in the drive to play those games.

The Previous Post are correct. You CAN NOT PLAY ANY OF THE GTA ISOs. They don’t work on this custom firmware 3.40. Back to 3.30e.
Do not use this firmware. You can not go back. The recovery mode gone. You can set it back to 1.5 kernal to reflash.
I meant to say can not set it back to 1.5 kernal to reflash. However, It was only the first option of the recovery that was missing. Therefore, recovery was able to be used since you don’t have to place the kernal to 1.5
You cannot set it up to 1.5 kernell if recovery is gone :P
And Flashing to 1.5 again does NOT fix the isue
foget about the two above post. I did the same to another psp and everything is working fine, Including the GTA games. I don’t know what went wrong with the PSP. If anyone knows how to help me fix my psp. Please, let me know. Thanks

A weird note. I had updated to 3.40oe and probably forgot to set the kernal to 1.5 and when it was completed I had two new features. One was a psp tv and the other I forgot, but GTA games didn’t work. I reflashed correctly and went back to 3.40oe and all works, but no more PSP TV.
Any comment? More than likely few have forgotten to set the kernal to 1.5 and wouldn’t have had the chance to see the PSP TV.
more and more dude found this thing :) i guess these new features will be aviable in the next sony relases, maybe the code is already in the firmware but sony decided to mask out, maybe because they are not working or wated to come out later

You can use the 32 mb memory stick and it will work fine with the Easy Install 3.40oe which you can get from this site. Just set your psp to the 1.5 kernal before flashing, if your already in an OE CF.

To Rain And DRE and anyone else facing the issue I described above.
If you PSP after the update is set to Japan,has the buttons inverted and crashes when you try to enter recovery->configuration then you have a corrupted registry.Dont panic and dont try to reflash to older versions since the crash will follow you…
The same issue may cause topmenu plugins not work in 3.4

Final Fantasy 8 does work. The reason that it crashes is because you got cheats enabled on cwcheat. Turn them off and you will see it works. Hopefully an update for cwcheat comes soon to fix this as the cheats work when running on epsxe

Try Turning off need no umd feature in the recovery menu and then try loading your cso, files with a umd in the drive.

Yo guys i got the same problem with the psx games freezing, I really wanted to play Digimon World 3 but when i go to diff. areas it froze so im unhappy, Oh and i also fiddled around with the flash icon thing and it screwed everything around, I had the gears of war thing stuck and the fonts kept getting screwed when i restarted saying config settings error and then I just copied from my frendz untouched psp and i was saved. Im going to update to 3.40 after CWcheat comes out for it.
So putting wallpaper messes up with the ISO thing huh? no wonder when i tried to play jewel summoner iso it turned black but its wierd my bleach game worked just fine. Other than a wider variety of psx games available i might just wait for the next update of 3.50oea…

Holy shit! I have a dreaded TA-082 and I was soo affraid to try this. I stayed up all night as usual messing around with Devhook and all of those wonderful things and realized my stupidity in loading ISOs. Imagine the excitement! So then I have my brother over and I want to show him some of the ISOs loaded from the memory stick itself and how great that was, but it kept locking up and all kinds of bullshit. Tonight, I finally decided to take the risk on my precious motherboard, and for anyone who is wondering, this firmware is TA-082 approved! Thank you soo much for this! It’s soo awesome not to have to go through loaders and hassle just to play a damn game, and you don’t even have to have a disc in to load and ISO!!! You fucken rock man!!
Well, I would like to correct myself here, the icons will come up and it will try to load an ISO without the disc, but you need a disc for it to fully function, accident! Still pretty kick ass though!
There is no UMD mode Plutey.Just boot the PSP with holding the R button trigget and you are inside recovery.DONT mess with things you dont know but you can mess with Configuration.DONT switch UMD region since there seems to be a bug.Anyway in Configuration you can set NO UMD mode on and off.In newer games it needs a disc though so its better to have it off.On older it works fine..

if ya googled it you would know already well ya know when it askes u 2 save da game before the disk change SAVE IT and then go on ur computer and make the next cd giving it the SAME ID CODE ie. disk 1 SCES12345 and disk 2 SCES12345 this will fix ur problem

If you googled you would know that Metal Gear Solid does NOT ask to save before the disk change, like some other games around. So far, the only solution is to convert your save game, play further on a PC emulator save and re-convert.

DONT go to 1.50 with corrupt PSP registry.Official Sony updates DO NOT TOUCH the registry and you shall loose recovery menu which may result in a brick.If you notice the configuration crashing first and only thing to do is run the flash1 formatter OR mount flash1 to USB and delete config.se(back it up in case).Both methods should fix your issue.

i couldn’t get psphost 2.0 working and the version of usbhostfs is for 3.03oe-c, i ended up going back to 3.03oe-c because they wouldn’t work for 3.30oe
After I upgraded my PSP to 3.40 OE-A, now I can’t play Tekken: DR with original UMD on my PSP. The game could not be started blahblahblah. I wonder what’s wrong? ISOs are okay so far.

I was at 303c for a long time and now updated to 3.40…I have a eboot 1.5 that i downloaded in 2005 and i used this one to update tp 340.I am going through all testx to see what the gliches are but the coding is rock solid dax.I guess i will try more flash 0 vsh customising.personaly i do prefer 3030oec but this update of dax is a necesitty due to new games and gps thingz coming out…Dax man you are very dedicated to your coding..some day i will also be up there but for now my hacking is with auto computerz
I had no idea how to play the ISO’s, thankyou for posting this. I thought i had stuffed my PSP. Incase you dont know you need to put a folder in the psp called “ISO” next to the psp folder. can you run any IR shells on this?

i’m playing with prince of persia: rival swords and inside the temple, just when i’m going to grab onto a block using the chain, my psp hangs and reboots. also with valhalla knights, inside the dungeon, it just hanged and rebooted.

who ever has a problem with loading isos dont use back picture then default setting if that doesnt work format memory if that doesnt work play a little with the recovery see if something is changed (like no-umd) - had that pronlem and fixed it

was curious to know that…..do these customfirmwares install in the flash of the psp or are just like devhook…
i guess its suppose to be on the memory stick. i guess i brick mine by installing it on the psp memory and i cant recover it back to 1.50. Well anyway, there’s quite a few problems with 3.40 oe-a. most games have problems with it. most of my iso games just went blank screen when i started it. sigh.. hope a fix will soon :(
hi…wish someone could enlighten me….had initially installed 3.40 oe & everything worked wonderfully….then out of curiousity i tried to recover back to FW 1.50…tat was successful….installed 3.40oe again…. i can load all other games i tried except for FIFA ‘07(it says…game could not be started (80010002)) gosh someone pls help…. i can’t miss out on such a wonder game…. n still wish to stay in 3.40oe…
I also have the wallpaper bug where the settings reset, the settings that make your games go black at boot is in advanced configuration - Use isfos driver also in UMD-inserted mode, just so if your settings get screwed u can easily get your games working again =)
Got a quick question, i upgraded 2 psps, one workes fine bar the wallapper problem, but the other one cant access the configuration menu when inside config/recovery mode. The screen goes blue wo any text and the psp then switches off. (psp works fine otherwise, bar the wallpaper bug, but because i cant get in the config menu i cant disable the settings that stop my games from running!)

Out of 10 PSP I installed the 3.40 OE-A, Six of them seem can’t go into the Config menu inside the Recovery Mode (Blue Blank Config Screen)… Out of 50 PSP I installed the 3.10 OE-A’… all worked fine…

I have NO PROBLEM after upgrading from 3.30 OE-A’
What did I do:
1. I’m using a 2Gb Memory Card Duo.
2. I reset my psp to default and format the Memory Card.
3. I copy the oeupdmaker folders to ?/PSP/Game150 and copy 150.pbp (download from this site) and 340.pbp (from official sony firmware upadate)
4. Disconnect usb and take out the UMD disk and run the program.
5. Check the crc or md5 of the Data.Dxar using Fatsum software.
6. Copy the 340flash folder to ?/PSP/GAME150 and cut and paste data.dxar to that folder.
7. Disconnect usb cable and no UMD in psp.
8. Run the program to flash the psp with over 75% batt and with power cable connected.
9. After done the flash I push R when switching on the PSP and enter recovery mode, I set the configuration > Use No-UMD (Disabled)
10. Play the game with Umd disc inserted.
>> I don’t use custom xmd icon
>> I don’t use any plugin
>> I changed my wallpaper

Some Notes to people who DONT READ the Manuals
1)You CAN GO to every Custom Firmware You want easily.Just put the files in the 150 folder and Run them as you normally do for CF(updatemaker+flasher)
2)DONT run Official firmwares from XMB or you are having a new brick.
3)You can go to 1.50 from any CF.NOT recommended if you have currupted registry.
4)For those who still wanna go to 150 here is a link for a OE remover to 1.50DAX created it but you I guess you dont know that is why you are asking about it

I have personally tested it on ALL OE firmwares on EUROPE PsPs.IT NEEDS TO BE RUN FROM RECOVERY (Its capital for a reason)
5)If iso’s don’t Load There are 3 Ways.
5a)First DONT DONWLOAD ROMS you dont own.50% of those are patched or corrupted that is why they dont run
5b)Use USB SSS for ripping a dvd you already own for testing purposes
5c)If the above pass the check then start testing with No UMD etc.Some games also need special CPU speed or insane tweaks like No saved games of X game in MC.Google is your Friend
6)The Black Screen when changing From OE version is expected.Even if it does not appear you SHOULD go and reset factory defaults.If things get out of hand clean the registry.

I have yet to see a PSP shipped with 3.40 .You have to wait for a downdrader.Now you cannot do nothing at it…Mind that software update feature in the menu next time

hey i no way the psp games dont work i just finished trying the TMNT iso and it said game can not be started then i poped in one of my real games into the umd and now the TMNT game works well i hope it works for everyone.

My friend is stil on 2.80 sony FW. We will downgrade to 1.50 and upgrade to 3.40 OE-A. Is that ok?

oh man i think i just bricked my PSP,because when i turn it on i just get this black screen the XMB doesnt even show up but when i hold the R trigger i get into the recovery mode.I dont know what to do from here on,does anyone know if they can help me? or is my PSP dead?
home button freezes my psp when tryuing to exit games or watever…. is that normal? (3.40OE-A)
o btw i knew about upgrades cuz frend told me it was best so when i got a psp for ma birthday i automaticlly updated I NEVER KNEW ABOUT CFW NOOOOOOOnow i wait for a few months for 4.XXto come out :) ^_^
