Simon v0.1 — A New Memory Exercising Game

greg | April 11, 2007

“My name is Simon, I like to do drawerings.” Although this new game has absolutely nothing to do with the SNL skit, it may trigger your brain’s memory circuits to help get the ol’ noggin’ running in preparation for “Simon” — a new PSP homebrew game to exercise the memory.

Simon v0.1 Screenshot

J@ricanese’s “Simon” is a memory exercising style game with a very simple concept: A round color thing, called a Simon, has four possible colours. Simon will illuminate colours in a random sequence, which you, the player, must remember and duplicate. There are 7 rounds that progressively become more difficult; beat all 7 and you have successfully defeated Simon.

D-Pad Controls:

  • Up — Green
  • Right — Red
  • Down — Yellow
  • Left — Blue

“Simon” is an official entry for the PSP Hacks Homebrew Contest.

To me, it’s sad that $ony doesn’t really promote or “release” (yes, I know they use outside developers, but still…) memory-boosting apps, and ust leaves the reputation, and the corresponding market, to the DS. This is why we need homebrew, and I am speaking of homebrew capability beyond just that small percentage of us smart enough to know about this site, Dark_AleX, CFW, etc.

Put simply, nice work!

He wasn’t insulting you. Google has a nice webpage translation utility and if you don’t like the way it works, then why not make your own spanish translated PSP-hacks?

By the way posting your E-mail publicly can lead to spam, possible viruses, and can lead to someone impersonating you with your E-mail.

Yeah, that’s not foolish…

Being a poster here, Not comments, But topic posters, means that it should remain clear that users should not post their email address, Have you heard of SPAMMERS and HACKERS. They find a very nice place to wait, and people like yourself, Go ahead and give them something to not wait for.

Please, I wasnt calling you a fool, I was saying its Foolish to do so.

But yeah, Your just one person, Who people have to deal with, And believe me, If you think your any different etc, Your not… Ive seen and read worse, And so on.

Just because your a spanish person, Who CAN happen to speak english, Doesnt mean we will treat you differently, it appears you are the first person to complain about the language here.

You cannot speak for thousands of other people, If they dont like it, Then well.. They will have to put up with it.

Heard of a quote, it goes something like this

English… Those who can DO! Those who cant, Complain.

Greg! Sorry for double post on this one :P

But yes, as above TheGJE said, its stupid to hand out your Email to public. Try not to do it.

Thanks, And im not insulting you, Im not from US, I didnt say you were insulting people. I dont think you read my comment properly. Please take a little more time to read through things before you go and start feeling sorry for yourself.

Hey J@ricanese,

The game Simon was invented by Ralph Baer…I did a quick search on his name and the closest thing I found to the original sound of the game is found at this site…

http://www.80smusiclyrics.com/games/new4/simon.swf

You play a flash version of the game…I remember playing the real thing when I was younger. I forget how many “C” batteries it took! It’s not the exact sounds but it’s very close…hope that helps you on a future update…

Wow guys thanks a lot I appreciate the effort. I will try to use those sounds for now but they sort of sounds a little boring lol. Especially with the background music paying they may not even be noticeable. I guess I’ll have to see what works good together and then get the final decision by you guys.

Also… I just downloaded those sounds from phil (thanks man) and they don’t sound that bad.. like two of the buttons’ sounds are very low I feel. Otherwise they aren’t that bad. Its just up to you guys whether you want those original based sounds or something new.

Yeah most of us are still young I believe. It’s just that they way I was growing up, a game like Simon was like the most expensive thing my mom could afford. So things like this I know alot about.
