Sleep’n'Wake PSP 1.2 Released

Posted by greg

Update: After listening to your feedback & suggestions, MK2k has released an update including several of those:

  • Switch between 24h / 12h (am|pm) display (toggle 24h and 12h display in the “Set Wake Time” option) I hope you lot US, CAN, AU and NZ users are happy now
  • Randomize your playlists with the Playlist Randomizer Option in the Playlist Edit menu
  • Snooze Mode! (activated in Alarm Mode by pressing L or R Shoulder buttons, snooze time can be set from 1 to 9 minutes)
  • Bugfix: “.mp3″ is now accepted in all capitalization variations (e.g. “.mP3″)
  • rearranged Main Menu

Due to the positive & overwhelming response received from the initial “Sleep’n'Wake PSP” (dubbed SnW) entry for the PSP Hacks Homebrew Competition, MK2k has just released v1.1…

Conveniently tune out the girl sleeping next to you while relaxing, listening to your carefully selected playlist, also possibly avoiding any unnecessary cuddling; then wake up to a sudden blast of music in hopes that you’re alone and have no recollection of the night before.

Sleep’n'Wake PSP v1.1 changes:

  • 50MHz underclock in SleepMode while no mp3 is played
  • Big Digits Time Display in Sleep- and Wake Mode (see screenshot)
  • Left and Right Shoulder buttons now exit Wake Mode too
  • An overflow with adding items to the playlist fixed
  • Playlist enlargement to 99 max. entries
  • Filebrowser now remembers last visited Directory
  • PSP-Hacks Splash Screen (sorry ’bout that missing in 1.0)
Sleep'n'Wake v1.1 Screenshot

SnW complete feature list:

  • Full cbr/vbr/abr 8kbps-320kbps 44.1kHz MP3 support
  • MP3 can be of arbitrary length
  • Manage different playlists for Sleep and Wake modes
    • add / remove mp3s
    • save / load playlists
  • In Sleep mode you can set a special, more silent volume
  • Wake mode is entered at a preset time with volume maxed (you can always adjust the maximum volume with the VOL + and - keys)
  • Write yourself a message which will be displayed in Wake mode
  • USB Mass Storage can be enabled/disabled within the app
  • Energy Save Mode (underclocks the PSP to 50MHz while no mp3 is running)
  • Big Digits Time Display

cool, I already love the alarm clock that comes with the PDA app, so I’ll have to try this.

I was reading the thing though, and it’s like, why would I want to tune out some chick sleeping next to me? I’d be like “hey baby”

Also the underclock feature is the best!, some times people wanna fall asleep naturally and only be woken up. so this means that it is only a 50mhz while you sleep? then up it’s self to wake you up?

    Comment by MK2k
    2007-04-10 04:32:24

    Correct!
Even when you have MP3s for the SleepMode, you will have the PSP underclock itself when all MP3s have been played.

Can anybody give an idication as to how much the battery gets drained when the PSP is in Alarm Mode and waiting to wake you up?

    Comment by MK2k
    2007-04-10 07:08:29

Should be a bit less now with the underclock feature. If anyone could do a long time test with full batteries and no power cable in, I’d be very interested in the results :)

24h time display is not that hard to handle with. But I’ll see if I implement a 12h am/pm clock in the next version.

um, I use an alarm clock, what a pointless program.

this is released to make us forget about 3.30oe, where is 3.30oe?

    I want my 3.30oe

Ever thought that this developer has no relation to what Dark_Alex or thoes other people do to create a custome firmware?

Also, in a lot of hotels, holiday houses, cabins, camping.. some of these places do not provide an alarm clock. It’s not like the program takes up much space even tho it is really good and liked by a lot of people.

Seriously, get into making programs… It’s one thing to think about making a program, but it’s another thing to actually make one. Trust me, it is very rewarding to actually create a program for the PSP!

Firmware 3.30 isn’t able to run unsigned code. Almost all homebrew is unsigned code, you will have to wait for a downgrader.

Hey MK2k, thanks a lot for adding .MP3, mP3, Mp3 extensions as playable formats! I have another suggestion… From what I’ve read, this program plays every song on the “Sleep List” and then stops playing music, and waits until the set time to start playing the “Wake List”. Well I know that after about ~15 songs playing, I’m fast asleep. I want to have my sleep list full and have random mode on so every night the playlist will be different, but I don’t want my PSP having to play all 99 songs before it gets a break. How about having a setting, so we can choose how many songs to play before stopping? It could be options like 5, 10, 15, all the way to All (99). That being said, how about having a Repeat option, so users with a small playlist will have their songs repeated until their song limit is reached… For example, say somebody only has 5 songs on his/her PSP, but gets to sleep after like 15 songs. He can set the play mode to repeat and set the song limit to 15, so his songs will be played until 15 songs have played.

    2007-04-12 03:30:10

That would bloat the App too much. Tbh I’m already getting a bit unhappy about the menus now and hope not to have to insert more Entries to them… :/

    Comment by PSP
    2007-04-12 09:51:20

Well, it would save users a lot more power, since they don’t have music playing all night, but whatever…

    Comment by PSP
    2007-04-17 20:29:39

Man, if you care so much about cluttered menus, remove the USB feature (why the hell does every homebrew maker feel it is necessary to have a USB option?!) and the “Exit Sleep’n'Wake” option (I can just about guarantee you that 99% of users, if not all, just press home to exit… I know I do)… I think this app really needs a song limit option.

there’s some “funny” problem w/ a compressed mp3 u MK pls fix this major problem !!!

    Comment by MK2k
    2007-04-12 03:33:40

It is not a problem at all, the player plays 44.1kHz mp3s as stated in the textfile, your mp3s are most likely to have a lower samplerate like 22kHz. Then they will be played as if they were 44.1kHz and thus twice as fast as they should have been played. Please use 44kHz or use a software to change the sample rate from 22kHz to 44.1kHz.

App is great, but I have one small complaint. Adding 99 songs to the sleep playlist takes a while when you do it one by one. Do you think you could add an option to throw all music on the memstick or a selected group onto the sleep/wakelist automatically? Keep up the wonderful work!

    Comment by MK2k
    2007-04-12 03:36:31

You can save the Playlists afterwards, so it isn’t really a big problem. But i know what you mean and in further projects which rely more on files and things I’ll make a better filebrowser.
