What’s Next for the PSP?

Its sure been a slow couple of days on the homebrew/hacking front — nothing new, nothing worthwhile, nothing we haven’t seen before; has it all been done? I want to know, and I’m sure a few of you are wondering the same — what’s next for the PSP? Is it merely firmware file flashers and LUA homebrew on the road ahead? Someone must be working on, or have some knowledge, of the next earth shattering PSP break-through that will revive the scene; will Sony do it first, or do we have faith in the the clever homebrew developers and hackers belonging to the community we’ve all grown to love?
Lots of questions and no answers; what are YOU anticipating? There’s an ongoing discussion here, as well, leave your comments/ideas/feedback/thoughts, etc… below.

what is the next step for the psp?
Hopefully a ps2 emulator or maybe a dreamcast or saturn? wouldn’t that be great? Imagine yourselves playing all those great RPG from the saturn or those great looking sonic games from the dreamcast or All the good games from the ps2 like: Marvel vs Capcom2 or God of War and Finally San Andreas? Remeber All those games are only images files like bin/cue or iso. Therefore, many hackers are asociated or familiarize with those. That would be like the best next step for the psp’s. What can i say psp hacking is the best i am just a game lover not a hacker and those are my dreams for the near future on the psp.
someone should make a MAME emu that actually works on all the games
custom firmware with usb hdd support would be nice!
hey…we already have that with SCEP_XMB plugin. I’m playing all my backup isos off the pc.

Unbricker is only possible through hardware modification.
ok, everyone is talking about wanting a psp mmo. it is possible, but it won’t be WoW at all. i don’t know if there is, but if there was a way to port player worlds, then it would be awesome. player worlds is an easy to make mmo that has snes style graphics. it is a 2d view, alot like the old zelda games. i know you could easily download maps, or i would be willing to help, my email is silverstein101.psphacks@yahoo.com, the site for player worlds is playerworlds.org. if any news, i would love to know.

yeah but theres no point in a 3.11 OE because the only thing added from 3.10 was a small popstation update that dark alex implimented into 3.10OE as a plugin

-make the psp more social. text messages and keyboard (like the palm one)
-Us camera and GPS units
-BIGGER FLASH ENGINE! i want to play online games on my psp.
-more psp-consol compatability.

for hackers: more hardwere hacks. like a umd launcher where the ejcter is.

FLASH NATIVE PLAYER! We need to run FLASH games as fast as the FLASH9 engine can manage it running as a native PSP Application.
I am not talking about a browser plugin version.
If we had FLASH9 (with FLV support) running as a native application on PSP, the content scene could explode over night.

I think that somebody should make a program that has video chat, now that the chotto shot is coming out :D And i would like a MMORPG on PSP that would freakin ASSUME!!!!!!!! and would be cool with somekinda chat program…voice chat?? with the socom navy seal headset?? hmm… or maybe a program that makes adhoc over internet :D Like u have a program on your computer so that it tricks the PSP that the computer is a PSP and the other freind you wanna play with connects his PSP to the computer and to that server u both have and then the other computer becomes your freinds PSP like or something and u connect to him hahahaha i dont know :D:D something like that hahaha :P
They already have the internet gaming. The method is called tunneling, and you can do it with a few apps out there already. XBConnect and Xlink-Kai are the two that I can think of right now. There might be more, I’m not sure.

More emulators! MAME & N64 need some attention, SNES is nearly perfect, the others are all great. Smaller cso? OS on PSP? A zip packer/unpacker?

There is but it’s not very reliable, for example try CW Cheat with it.
its not IrShell its just used as a plugin in IrShell
what about changing the virtual key pad? i hate that thing. i liked the one used in ir shell
im think some kinda wireless chat thing. LIke the DS Picto Chat. a mmo would be awsome mabye something old like everquest or something but anyways i want to see more connectivity with other psps.
I wish sony would make it so we can transfer music and video files through ir (like we can with photos)… It’s obviously possible, it just might take a few minutes to transfer.
surely once the psp gps and camera kick in something cool will come along..and what about that microphone that came with the game talkman? cant anything be done with that?
Someone should figure out how to revive the bricked psp’s. this would give many new people with bricked psp’s new ideas when they got theirs back into action

My team is trying to develop a xbox emulator for psp but we been working on it for like a month and no success I keep telling them we need to just drop the audio and lower the bitrate and graphics to get it to work hehehe….
Hopefully Dark Alex will come up with something to save all of us and Pox and Ragable havent made a new psphacking 101 show is this the end of the psp scene????
What we need for PSP: Wifi Sniffer and WEP Cracker there’s an idea……
Somehow I don’t think emulating a 128 bit console on a 64 bit one will work… maybe you can get 1fpm (frame per minute)… N64 has taken ages, a PS2 emulator is more likely than an xbox one but i don’t see anything above Neo Geo/N64 coming out on PSP.
I dont think it would be that hard to make a ps2 emulator, someone would just have to mod sonys’s ps1 emu and it could probably work for some of the lower quality games

yeah the past few days or even weeks have been pretty down. honestly i think there will have to be a new firmware with new capabilities before we see much.
i think sony or someone should something like home for the ps3. that would sweet.

i think the zip unpacker already exist in irshell…i think that sony needs to add support for wireless multiplayer in the ps1 emulator…i would love street fighter or crash team racing multiplayer on a handheld…

I Think the funkiest thing on it would be a DS emulator.. That’ll be one in the eye for ol’ nintendo.. Although how they’d impliment the touch screen is beyond me!!
Maybe not touch screen but more like a sensor bar hooked to the USB up top of the psp would be even better. The bar would sense finger typing distance or something. HAH!
there WAS a touch screen for the PSP, but it was released by Liksang, who is now out of business thanks to the Sony lawyer sharks. You might still be able to find it on Ebay and the technology could always be remade and released elsewhere. a DS emu would be pretty hot…
Lik-Sang didnt MAKE products. They were a third-party seller. There were designs of a touch-screen made by some folks from the scene, for use with a new custom FW that was being planned. I think it might have been for HarleyG + co’s firmware that (as far as I know) went kaput.
Well, so far for my ideas: a MP3 mixing homebrew that is WAAAY Better than Ruckus for psp. Apparently the developer dropped the coding and released the source code. I’m sure somebody can take it and add some stuff to make it like a-almost perfect MP3 mixer. (like cd-mixers used by Deejays’) I have 2 psps, but not being able to do some stutter effects and some sound effects is a bummer. I need something that I can work with and use it live at gigs. (i’m not at a psp-dev/programming stage yet,…hopefully in the future).
Another Idea I would think is a homebrew that would be like a Sign maker using the PSP screen as the display, for big ass Giant scroll fonts. I think i need it for fast Road Rage signs when I’m driving at night. Needing Presets of words like: Get the F+++ out of my way, and the psp screen is big enough to display that with flashing words, I’m sure other ppl drivin at night would see. =)
EXACTLY what we need. Something else for idiots like yourself to flash in peoples faces on the road, AND something to distract your dumb ass so maybe you’ll crash too!

I hope someone is working on somethin like skype with video chat with that psp camera. That would be awsome. I also hope that sony would add a video streaming function or Macro media Flash number 7 or higher

I’d like to see something like XBox Media Center for the psp. I know it already has a built in media player but it blows. Plus with XBMC you can stream from a pc (which might suck with the 802.11b but hey i’ll try it).
Pimp Streamer can run video from a PC. Google earth & wifi play for ad-hoc games would be awesome! GBA emulator is perfect & full speed (if you can find the bios haha). More ad-hoc on emulators please!

I just wish someone would make a truly great media player that can play most any video found on the internet. If one already exists point me to it. And I mean play it without streaming it from my PC.
The day psp-hacks ends i will lock my PSP up kost likely and forget about it, and sony will loose in profit cuz no1 wud want their systems cuz it can only reli b hacked with old stuff then nothing more. HOWEVER i do not think tht day has yet cum. I AM 12 years old, and AS a 12 yr old i think hackers will be hacking when I am in my old folk’s home. I may even teach my own children to hack, if i do not dye before 25.

Next step… hmm… Maybe an unbricker? no hacker has ever come across an unbricker for psp’s with the 1.5 firmware. but hay.. you never know. there gotta be a solution…
The problem is that you need something already there (in the psp eeprom) to look for unbricking…
I dunno if sony has this, but if it dosen’t and our only way, is to remove the eeprom (or sold the wires on it) and use a eeprom zif socket writer…
You can put any fw you want there… is a X.XX version unbricker and downgrader!
hehe you just need the eeprom writer (cheap) and a guy really gold on soldering. xD
