IR Keyboard PSP Quake Released!
greg | March 13, 2007
Wow, this certainly took me by surprise… Due to the overwhelming response rein4ce has received from the IR keyboard supported PSP Quake video, there is a release!
After a few code tweaks, rein4ce has made it available for public consumption! Included are only the PSP Quake binaries, modified with support for the PalmOne IR keyboard, of course. It’s up to you to be resourceful and locate the data files yourself; or if you’re lazy, click here for the shareware version. In fact, it has only been tested with the shareware version, but it’s likely the full version won’t have any issues. Once you’ve obtained the data files, copy them to the “ID1″ directory under the “Quake” folder.
A few notes…
ok, I tweaked the code so it now supports multiple key input (up to 3 - that’s this keyboards limit) - you can play the game using only keyboard.
you can bind all keys to fit your needs: arrows, control, alt etc.
only Caps Lock as far as I remember does not work
there’s a small bug - rarely if you keep rapidly pressing too many keys at once (5-6) they might get stuck, so it’s requered to press that specific key one more time to unstuck it. however I can’t imagine anyone hitting the keyboard with all their fingers at once :)
Just to clarify — you’re able to use both the PSP controls, as normal, and the IR keyboard simultaneously.

Great work, rein4ce!

Oy vey… sounds complicated
nice release, nice
c00el
Thats outta hand . Didnt expect it to be that quick. But whats up with the gooose chase on the .dat? is there a reason its not included.
honestly I havent read shareware terms of use, however I believe apart from being free to download, data files are still id’s property
but it’s not a problem for me to host a full package including them if you want :)
Yea itd be nice to have the whole game and not just a short demo, at least thats what I think the shareware version is, I am downloading it as I type anyway.
That would be sweet, any thing to reduce the time between deciding to give it a try and having it working. :) Makes it simple for every one to enjoy the parts that inspired the author.
omg are you people stupid? complainin about the .dat files?? This is no different then the PSP version of quake in terms of finding your own files. And quake is OPEN SOURCE meaning this isn’t “illegal” the whole purpose for ID to release this as open source is so you can make whatever mods you want INCLUDING THIS ONE!!!
Anyways this is a great release I might pick up one of those keyboards n try this out hehe It’d be great if this was possible to impliment in custom firmwares too like on the web browser :D
To some one who used to play quake, seeing compatibility for the keyboard now is probably enough to make them want it. That leaves them searching for dat files. If the dat files arnt illegal then its only logical to include them / link them.
This may be off-topic, BUT i have a question, can anybody make this IR Keyboard program work with homebrews like PSPPDA or PSPNote?? is it possible?? that way it would be easier to type or input data.
^^to the guy aboveme…duh stupid
DUH! think you’re the one who’s stupid dumbass! Just like Alexeon’s comments and many others out there, what makes the PSP less perfect is its inability to use IR keyboards.
I love my PSP, but i would certainly love it more if it could have IR keyboard work on homebrews like PSPPDA or the WEB Browser, or IRC… duh!
Okay, _will_ someone mod the keyboard to work with other things like the web browser or irc? This is the only thing keeping the PSP from being perfect… aside from a touchscreen, but they are supposedly working on that.
you are an ungrateful little bitch aren’t you….how about commenting on how this app has been upgraded instead (awesomely i might add) of pointing out the psp’s “downfalls” which by the way are bogus…stfu, toss your psp to someone who gives a damn and get a damn ds if you want a damn wacom…i aint saying it shouldnt be developed, but dont complain like a fucking loser…its called PROGRESS. All you ass clowns that want to complain remember this :you gotta walk before you run…and as was prestated by countless others dont complain unless you can do it better…and if you can, release it here first! ;)
Its great news but, without any discredit for the authors, I think someone should bet on Web Browser keyboard support and a MSN Messenger with keyboard support!
A game is very specific but keyboard on PSP´s web browser (very important for html messenger, hi5, e-mail, write addresses,…) and MSN is much more important and serves A LOT more people IMO.
Next OE firmware should have IR or USB keyboard support :(
I understand how important this is. Quake is an awesome game, but I would like to know if its possible to use this app to develop IR Keyboard support for the whole PSP, or if it will have to be restarted from scratch.
