pspWeather v2.0b Released

greg | February 23, 2007

Remember pspWeather? Initially developed by mcdongle and later “tweaked” by ZX-81; pspWeather will keep you up-to-date with the latest weather conditions for your area, or anywhere for that matter, as long as you’re within range of a wireless access point.

Today mcdongle is back on top of things with a fresh version, v2.0 beta.

pspWeather 2.0 Beta changes:

  • Semi-theme support. I hope to make this much better at a later date (PLEASE do not change the font file)
  • An interface to get weather without reading location codes from the configuration file
  • 3 day forecasts
  • DHCP support
  • New config file in XML format
  • Lots of Bug Fixes/Changes

no offense but what is the point? you can just use the psp web browser and go to the weathernetwork to check the weather…

A lot of times it loads slowly and there are lots of ads and stuff.

I always found those awkward… I mean, “see the weather conditions in your area”… can’t I just peek out the window for a change? still it might be useful when travelling (not here mind you… you’d never find free access points over europe), and coder’s work is always respected…

It works fine if you just put it in the GAME folder and not the 150 or 303.. In the readme it tells you where to go to find the location codes, you can also do this on yahoo weather in the zip finder and once it shows the weather look at the address bar and you will see the LOC code for your ZIP. Write it down and edit the xml file.

AWESOME WORK DUDE

I wish I could have used this…. it crashes from the game150 folder after finding the router it says it cant open the xml document even if I leave it un-touched. It wont start from the game folder, or game303 folder. Owell….

To everyone saying whats the point…. the point is you can view alot of weather conditions without turning on your tv or looking up today on the farmers almanac. The point is you can plan your day better with it. Why do people insist others want to hear their oppinions all the time when what your saying has nothing to do with anything…. either use it or dont. Just report errors or suggestions. All this “I dont understand why anyone would use this” or “I wont use this” who the hell cares? Thats useless and a waste of your brain power, whats left anyways….

After a couple of tries, I finally got it to work. The readme file is not clear.

To Launch:

Put all the files in the PSP\GAME folder not game150. Reboot the psp into recovery mode.
Go into configuration and change game folder homebrew to 1.50 kernel.
Exit and unit should restart.
Item should be selectable on the memory stick under game and hit X.

It should launch w/out you editing the config.xml file.

Ok 1stly I would like to thank the programer “s” for this cool app , I aint ungratefull for the hard work yall do , keep it up ! Well as stated above by “Meteora” he is correct about what u should do if ur having problems running this app! Cuz I am running fw 3.030ec TA 082 , I tried copying the weather folder and the weather % to the game 150 ……the program booted but i kept having problems where it would sorta frezze up when it had to go 2 the internet…….

I placed the same files in the game folder nex and it booted up also but it crashed immediately after the game boot intro started it crashed with it displaying 8000241 or summin cannot be played ………
Well I did the recovery boot and configured my game homebrew kernel 3.03 to 1.50 …….Then when I rebooted every thing worked perfect , with no need to do any xml cofig editing !

Btw depending where u live in the usa all u have to do is press triangle , and u will get an option to change ur zipcode and that will allow u to see ur local 3 day weather forecast…….Booooooooya bows n give thanks to the programers cuz my psp is pimping homebrew style , ya herd:-)

“Meteora”, still didn’t work for me :( You have to edit the config.xml file for your local number… I tried without editing it and still no function for me…. owell, guess I’ll wait till final version comes out… readme sucks balls

Also forgot to mention, I havent had anything so far not work in the game150 folder that was designed for 1.5. I havent ever had the need to change the kernel mode to 1.50 in the recovery mode…. I dont understand why this wont work….

Got it to work on the 3.10 OE without having to change the 1.5 game folder in the settings. Copy the files as normaly to the game150 dir and copy just the pspWeather folder to the game dir. There will be 2 pspWeather folders on the mem card. on the the 1.5 and one in the game. The program looks for the info in the game folder. In the game150 you should have pspWeather & pspWeather% in just the game folder you should also have a copy of pspWeather. Will now work

I tried this method and it also worked for me. Weird that you have to put the pspweather folder twice on your stick.

It makes sence somehow, this program needs to find the data from the GAME folder but the application can only be run from the GAME150 folder. So it has to work with both folders.

You can just make a folder in GAME called PspWeather and put the config file in there. saves a couple of megs on space.

On second thoughts, don’t! You need some other files there too so i guess you need a complete copy of the folder! Oops!
