Someone try Ridge Racer 64…It works pretty well. It has minor choppy-ness. It is totally playable with sounds (choppy sounds). This emulator has come a LONG way. Some more work, and this will be like gold.

This emulator is very promising. I can’t wait for future updates where someday the N64 roms will run just as good as the PlayStation games do on the PSP.

umm ya, i put it in my GAME150 folder and i’m running 3.10 OE-A’ and its not working… i get as far as it boots up then a blue screen but then i push buttons and nothing happens, then it shuts off my psp =/ any help? am i doing it wrong?

you have to put roms in the from folder and if you dontknow where the from folder is it is in the
Daedalus folder. also make sure you kenel is at 1.50 and if you dont know where to get roms go to coolroms.com i hope this helps

If your rom says N64 as the file then change it to Z64 and it should play.

Yea zelda does not work, it trys to load but after 10 mins just a blank screen. Mario cart works, but the sound is very choppy, and it is also type slow. Well it works better then it did before so kudos for that. But still needs some work. 8/10 (not like it matters anyway…) :/

Great improvements. Right now I’m testing out Doom and Quake 2. They work, but music is choppy. Things will get better over time.

It’s not in this post but he says that the audio is only ‘beta’ right now so lets just be patience.

beware,this emu has crashed my psp every time i try to load a rom that doesnt work with it and most of the roms i tryed didnt work with it and i have all n64 roms ,also when it does crash the psp its a different kind of crash and my power indicator flashes ???>??? i dont like this emulator at all (nice try) but i really dont think n64 will be good on psp unless pj64 gets ported.

Neat. Sounds like some decent progress… I’m sure within time there will be a MASSIVE jump in quality / perfection like there was with SNES / GBA emulation. Months and months of minor updates that were frustrating / not playable to absolute perfection. I’ll wait till then.

on a side note , why are folk trying to emulate n64 on psp when the legendary snes still isnt emulated properly ???? i really dont understand those whose who are happy with frameskip and incomplete graphics, mabe they didnt actuly play the real cosole whe it was out ? or mabe they are used to mobile phoe games running at 15fps with 1×1 screen size …. come on guys psp deserves much better than this ! vote for zsnes port to psp ….

lol , on another note ,the pc n64 emulation is not near perfect after so many years and so many great devs working on the big 3 so why do you all think psp is going to be miraculus in displaying n64 at a good speed ? i think the fastest n64 emu on ps was ultrahle using voodoo chipset.

pj64 is much more optimised but still needs geforce 4 gfx card with minimum 128mem and cpu 600mhz and with this games will be at a playable state (not perfect by any means)
on psp we can only dream this could be a reality!

im a big fan of emulation and have been using emulators for 6 years now, i love the psp for the thought of emulation but i still think we need snes and amiga running good on psp with frameskip 0 and vertical sync and full sound before n64 is a possibility.

A pity, Diddy Kong Racing not really working. It’s a really great improvement though, just played Super Mario 64 with sound, slow but playable. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait for R10 as long as we had for R9.

I have been in to emulators for some time as it’s the best way to re-live the classics and keep your games organised. I am nor programmer but I just don’t see how they are gonna get this running perfectly – I will be pleasantly surprised if they do. i know there are some awesome hackers out there.

hmm. im having a bit of problems running it. it freezes at the menu of daedalus. i installed correctly im sure of it. the folders are in my game150 folder. im running 3.03oe-c. anyone have any ideas?

Tried this and cannot get it to work on 3.10 oe-a’. I tried the 1.00fw version and the 1.5fw version, both in the GAME and GAME150 folders with kernel 1.5 selected from the recovery screen. Ive tried mario 64, mario kart 64 and blast corps. Not 1 of them will load, just get a black screen when i press start to play a game. Please help because these seems like a great emulator. cheers

I’m afraid to say that R9 is crashing (as it is with so many others above) on the blue screen where I have to select the rom, which is in the same folder as the emulator. Running 3.03 OE-C.

Thanks for the release! It may not be perfect but I’m sure it will become perfect over the months :D

this is definitely an improvement. so far it seems like i can finally save games in Mario64. Maybe those files will disappear again and I’ll have to play that first level again and again, but for now its looking like the save feature works and that is a major victory, along with the added sound. Choppy or not, its great you released it.

All these people keep saying take your time, but I’d honestly be very happy to download a ton of future beta upgrades as you keep going with this, making it a little better each time. I can imagine its a LOT of work and I applaud you for working so hard on something so cool for all of us to enjoy. Please keep at it! :-)

and on a side note, suggestion-wise, i think you should join up with the folks who made the SNES and NES emus. I heard somewhere that a lot of the trouble with these things is in remapping all the ports or commands or something, from whatever system you are emulating, to the PSP. Those guys already did an amazing job with those emus, and maybe since the 64 is a later model in that series of machines, there may be some answers found in it’s predecessors. Kind of like a Rosetta Stone of code to be found somewhere in all of that…

I think this emulator has problems with 3.10 oe firmware. cos Its loading absolutely nothing for me. Games I could old with the old version won’t load anymore. Any success with 3.10 oe?

I think what the problem is this: There were so many updates of all these things that are supposed to increase the speed and whatnot of the emulator, which, in theory, sound great. However, despite all of these things, when it comes down to it, not all that much can be done with this emulator. Now, I’m not downing it, this is the process of how it’s done, baby steps (and sometimes giant steps; see Dark_AleX’s firmware), but I think it has been hyped ENTIRELY too much for what it really is: An early, very early BETA of an N64 emulator.

I think, over time, yes, this could very well be a good program, but at the time of this post, there really isn’t much to do with it. Yes, it does has sound, yes it can play a minute amount of games, but, NO, as it stands, it did NOT deserve the attention this site has given it… yet. Give it time, this WILL be a good emulator, just not yet.

I truly think this emu has a long way to go but n64 i think is possible, the main reason i removed the emu after trying to run 4 roms is that i had fears my psp may be damaged from running this emu as the crashes are pretty scary.

but my hat goes off to StrmnNrmn for his continued progress with the emulator and i would request he doesnt release anymore versions untill he has a good consistant framerate, if the framerate was really good with bad graphics and choppy sound i would want to kiss the guys feet as this proves that it can be done and we all know that graphics bugs are the norm for early n64 emulation.

also for all these total idiots that just flame the emu , (go away and write you own emu) then come back in a year or so with something half resembling R9 and i will be impressed !!!!

this is my last post but ill say this for the emulator
with thoughts on roms working/not working ….

if you knew anything about emulation and roms you will know that theres 3 different versions of each n64 rom , in some cases theres 5 versions
the emu needs the correct upcode for the rom
and that is why some get a rom working while others do not, also some n64 roms are (slowrom)
and others (fastrom) this is why the rom may or may not work.compatibility is needed with n64 emulation and you guys are needed NOW ! so that you can post what roms work and what doesnt work, then when the next release comesalong you will have over 80% n64 roms working , loading up and not crashing ingame or crashing at rom loadup.

this is the norm for n64 emulation and i guess from reading the posts not alot of you know the 1st thing about emulation, you look to me like you are here just to get your free n64 emulator.

i still say project64 is the way to go but a big well done and thanks for the emulator.

This emulator is a technological acheivement. It is working better than I expected. Thanks for your hardwork! I played mario 64 for about 2 hours and Star fox for about 1 hour. The emulator is playable with specific games. Older gamers may appreciate this emulator more than these 3.03 downgrader noobs.

As for the rest of you dissing this emulator. Its not Strnms fault that you were too dumb to realise full speed n64 emulation will never be possible on psp. 16 fps is playable enough for me, but strnm is hoping for a whoping 30 fps in many games. That is awesome. So shut your traps if you dont know jack #### about emulation.

3.03oeC — 1.00 and 1.50 versions in GAME and GAME150 folder, run with kernel 3.03 and 1.50 — no configuration works. Just does as others have said – Blue screen then black then reboot. Running one of the earlier versions of PSP (came with 1.0 or 1.5)

this isent working. i put the files in 150 folder and when i load its not leting me move anywhere..its frozen in a state where i see a black box under global setting. im in 3.03 oe anyone have any ideas.. i mite be doing something wrong.

r10….needs. Speed. Make it faster generally? Is there a specific game that runs slowly which you’d like to see an improvement with?
Compatibility. Should I work on FlashRAM support? Is there a specific game that doesn’t boot, or crashes the emulator? Does your favourite game boot, but then crash when you try to start playing?
Audio. The audio support is quite new. Are there certain games where it doesn’t work? Should I try to improve the audio so it’s less choppy?
Graphics. Maybe your favourite game runs, but there are significant graphical glitches?
Save Games. Save game support is currently ‘in’ for EEPROM and MemPak based saves, but very flaky. Should I work on improving this so you don’t lose your hard-earned progress?
Savestate. Would it be better for me to implement savestate support, so you can save an resume a game at any point?

I solved my problem of the main screen locking locking up by renaming my ROMS from .usa to .v64.

Uh, I know jack shit about hacking my psp. If it weren’t for people like StrmnNrmn and Exophase (his GBA emulator rocks!) I probably would have sold my psp and got an ipod. So, what the popular games like Smash bros. and Zelda don’t work. Personally, I try to enjoy the good games that do work like Super Mario and Starfox. I’m just saying we should be thankful (Thank you StrmnNrmn, Exophage, and everyone else who makes this kind of stuff possible) that someone is actually taking time to make this and enjoy the games we can play until the next update. I’ve said my piece, and I’m sorry if I offended anyone.

On another note, Um, I know everyone is busy with “This sux” and “Shut the hell up,” but does anyone have a list of roms that do and do not work with this new update?

I managed to play Mario64 and Zelda64, im amazed of the diffrence between the Old Emu.. whoo gives a shit abotu Choppy Sounds(only EMUlator with EPrfect Sound is PS1) soo none of all tehotehr Emus actually have perfect sound unless its the GB, GBC or NES.. all the rest dont have perfect sound (Emu arent suppose to be Perfect cause its only Emulating a Software system) … anyways Great Job, I’ll be expecting for the Next release.. also play the games with no Audio, and they work better ive actually had many Luck starting and playing around with a few games, only crash 4 me has been SSB, but it still got ot work

I had the previous releases on my 2.0 and worked, not the best but worked. This won’t load on my PSP. Can anyone help?

as much as i was hoping this was gonna run at a faster speed than what it does, i still have to say im impressed, i am disappointed about how long it takes to load the rom (45min for OOT). Other than the loading part this is a great improvement, i cant wait till its running at near full speed

PPl, while I agree that this is a step in the right direction, and the guy deserves plenty of credit for not only making this but letting ppl have it for free,if the truth be told it aint up to much. I am sorry if anybody gets upset, but the real truth is it needs alot of work to really make it worth the memory card space. I also cant understand the mentallity of the people who spend good money on a system like the psp to then try and play prehistoric games Duh……. The long and short of it is… if your crap in bed but your partner praises your attempt your still crap in bed.. Tell the author like it is, good attempt but not really there yet…. if he cant take the feed back then maybe he should not release an update untill he is sure of a 100% posative response…….Everybody is entitled to an opinion like it or not………
