Custom Firmware 3.10 Open Edition (Rev. A) Released!

Certainly not a lazy Sunday for Dark_AleX as he chalks up yet another record release on the board — Dark_AleX 10, Sony 2.
3.10 OE-A may only be installed as a full installation; same steps follow as the previous custom firmwares…
Instructions are as always, oeupdmaker to create the dxar from 150.PBP and 310.PBP, and 310oeflasher
to install the firmware from the dxar previously generated.Although, it is obvious, i’ll say it in capital letters: DO NOT USE ANY DXAR FROM 3.03 OE, USE THE ONE
GENERATED WITH THE INCLUDED OEUPDMAKER AND SONY 1.50 AND 3.10 FIRMWARES UPDATES.
This means download both the 1.50 and 3.10 firmware updates below, rename them to 150.PBP and 310.PBP respectively, and copy both to the “oeupdmaker” directory on your memory stick. Run (from a 1.50 kernel) and you’ll have generated a new 3.10 OE-A DXAR file.
Copy the DXAR file to “310oeflasher” and launch it — follow the remaining instructions on your screen.

3.10 OE-A changes:
- Change from 3.03 firmware to 3.10
- 4th level of brightness (aka battery eater) can now be selected also without ac adaptor.
- Changes in hen core:
- Static user elf’s can now be executed in the 3.10 kernel. (this includes snes user version between other programs)
- Tyranid’s patch (added in 3.03 OE-C) consequences was not explained very well in the changelog of 3.03 OE-C:- For programmers: it allows kernel modules to have user imports, making kernel programming in 3.03/3.10 less strict.
- For users: plugins and applications that worked in 2.71 SE, but not in OE, *may* now work in 3.03OE-C and 3.10 OE-A.
Note 1: the installer will disable all plugins to avoid incompatibilities when booting. You can enable them again in the recovery menu.
Note 2: the plugin to load 3.02 pops won’t work anymore in 3.10 OE, due to some changes in pops modules structure (meaudio fused with popsman, idcanager/idmanager behaviour slightly changed). A new plugin for 3.10 could be written next week.

yes I AM glad i have 2 PSP, i LOVE xflash in 2.71 but i like to make my ps1 games playable in 3.03OE-C
you can flash in DAXs recovery mode via usb (no need for X-flash). I’ve already got a custom font and gameboot. the only real problem is the topmenuplugin.rco from Custom xmbIcon Packager bricks it so you gotta use the original or back it up.

has anyone been able to get the x-flash to work properly in terms of changing menu text? if you can and know how please let me know i want some text changed and in return ill make you a non bricking custom icon top menu… please let me know, if your registed in the forums im under paco there to just pm me
i cant get any customization of topmenuplugin.rco to work without bricking. i even tried hex-editing it and nothing works. but then again my hex skills suck. i dont see it being too long before someone figures it out and makes an update for xmbIcon Packager.

yea you dont need xflash at all with alexs firmwares. boot up in recovery mode, click advanced, flash0, and edit it there. you comp will detect it just like it does your ms. that makes editing MUCH easier and you can back everything up on you hd without a seperate flash dumper. piece of cake. that way if you fu** somethin up you can go back to the folder you backed your flash up in and copy everything back and everything goes back to the way it was.

Because 3.10 has a more memory efficient internet browser, and we can go to bigger sites without getting the “not enough memory” error… I, for one, have been hoping for this forever.

Excellent work DAX. I was anticipating a release this weekend and you do not disappoint.
If I’m not mistaken, it seems that there are new settings in the PSX emu such as a fourth control setting using the analog nub. This was definitely worth the update.

i have used the noobz 3.03 downgrader which still has the remaintints of 3.03 so i am too sure to update to 3.10OE-A

ecerytinhg gets removed and then 3.10OE gets put on…

yes its ok to update, I too used the 3.03 dowgrader, which leaves remnants of 3.03 in the flash, i just ook the rish and updated to 3.10 OE-A. It was fine, i am now currently surfin happily across the net finding the best homebrew available for my brand spanking new 3.10 OE-A PSP!!!

That’s happened to me with every OE update. Just wait it out. It’ll work if every file is in the right place.
It would be alot faster when using the value pack included 32MB memory stick. I think the PSP reads the smaller size MS faster. Also that’s what other devs reported.

if you downgraded to 1.5 then upgraded to 3.03OE then it is safe to proceed with this update.
the 3.10 oe update formats the flash before copying its own files so all those 3.03 remnants are gone. completely safe.
I am not sure it if formats the flash. Just the files it needs. I still had my back ground and my settings. I wish is would of formated both flashes before installing.
Your background and settings were still there because the format didn’t touch the Flash1 part of the psp, but the Flash0 (the more critical and more prone to bricking part of the psp) Flash0 is like system32 part of windows. And Flash1 is like documents and settings in XP. You know some people want to keep their name and network settings or something, instead of doing everything over again.

TOTALLY AWESOME, I had a 2nd PSP sitting around with faulty UMD(infact my girlfriend ripped umd drive apart, as i was spending too much time on it). I downgraded from firmware 2.71(no umd drive needed to do this), then upgraded to firmware 310 0e-a. I can play Iso games of memory card after enabling No UMD option in recovery menu. yes yes i have 2 PSPs now with custom firmware 3.10 oea. Thanks DA your a legend.

Anyway, what it is is a way to upgrade to DAX’s custom 3.1-OE firmware. And yes, you can use homebrew on it, and no, official Sony 3.10 cannot be upgraded to 3.10 OE.

help – it’s a “custom/hybrid firmware” it combines the functionality of a 1.5 PSP with the functionality of Sony’s latest firmware. If you don’t use a lot of homebrew / game ISO’s / emulation … you really don’t need to worry about it. If you do, it’s worth doing. However, I’m STILL trying to figure out if PS1 games work on this. There seem to be conflicting comments …

Go to the psp-hacks forums, they have a LONNG list. Just use search before posting a thread, you WILL find it like you find a list of psp games that work for all custom firmwares.

3.10OE-A hasn’t added much apart from a better psx emulator still can’t load all ISOs. i am waiting for 3.10OE-B for more features.
Your ISO are probably bad. I have a shitload that don’t work correctly and that was form 3.02OE
Succesfully updated to 3.10 OE a few hours ago. Thanks Dark_AleX :)
POPS does fix a few big glitches and Tomba NTSC works now without freezing the opening movie etc. But some games will not work while they’ve worked in 3.02 OE and 3.03 OE.
Lets see what Chrono Cross and FF8 have to say about the new POPS.

When i try starting the “OE A updater Maker” it shows the psp intro, then it says game could not be started. Does anyone know what im doing wrong?
try putting the 3.10 in the game 150 folder and run the 1.50 kernel in the recovery mode
I tried and now nothing shows up on the list of games. It says “There are no games” Do i have to put the GAME150 folder in the same folder as GAME?

as stated in your earlier post run the recovery menu option 3 for 1.50 recovery its probably the same problem i had works a treat
i extracted the files and put it in my game folder, renamed the 1.50 and 3.10 eboot “150.pbp and 310.pbp” but when i try to load the OEA update maker it says “the game could not be started.” Im running a sony update of 3.03.
You will need to use the 3.03 downgrader to be able to update to this.
and GTA LC UMD DISK… lame … hehe and im not allowed 2 type publich

You can’t run the update if you’re PSP version is 3.10

Hey. For those having trouble with the psp’s web browser giving you a blue screen of death after installing 3.10, just go to settings > system settings > restore default settings and hit ok, it should work after that.

ok idk if this has been said but since i did it. if you did the 3.03 downgrader its ok to upgrade to this. i did it and didnt brick, i did have to reset the defaul settings like MrAlaska said..all works fine.

Well to answer your questions: First off, you need to:
1. Downgrade you’re 3.03 psp to 1.50
2. Download Dark Alex’s 3.10 OE-A update (FOUND ON THIS PAGE)
3. Download Sony’s 3.10 Eboot update (FOUND ON THIS PAGE)
4. Download Sony’s 1.50 Eboot update (FOUND ON THIS PAGE)
5. Read the READ ME TEXT that comes with the “Dark Alex 3.10 update rar.”
6. Follow those directions SPECIFICALLY.
1.50 was AMERICA’s original firmware for the psp. It aloud kernal access. Kernal basically enables you to run ISO’s, homebrew and a slew of other great gizzmos on your psp. Dark Alex’s Update alows you to have the newest Sony Update features, and also alows you to play all 1.50 homebrew that you can’t play on the ACTUAL SONY 3.10.
Yes you can do this.
Just want to add:
Some people like newbies dont know 3.03 OE as a custom made firmware…. maybe Halp is saying 3.03 Sony Firmware (not the custom one) Look for the downgrader for 3.03 to 1.5 then do this 3.10 OE upgrade.
Also if your already in 3.03 OE C you can upgrade to 3.10 OE A ahead. No need to downgrade to 1.5

OMG, I just had my first semi-brick! …I updated to this and began to write to the flash…after writing the VSH wouldnt show :( I used the “flasher for recovery” from 3.02oe-a to downgrade to 1.50 and upgraded back to 3.10oe-a…Yay, and this custom firmware doesn’t need to have a umd in your psp…just go to the recovery menu then configuration and turn no umd on.

How do i acsess the recovery menu??? i am running on 3.03 OE-C and get a “The game could not be started. (8002014C)” error when I try to run the 3.10 OE-A Update Maker. I read further up in the comments that this can be fixed by going to the recovery menu… If this is not true, or if there is another option to fix the problem, please reply. thanks.
hold down R while rebooting…also it should work if you put everything in GAME150 rather than just GAME
make sure you put all the files in the GAME150 folder.
ive never used a game150 folder …EVER, theyve never worked for me in ther…GAME is the folder which has worked for every downgrader altho game150 are instructd…..odd init

it doesn’t matter what GUI u use…as long as it’s the correct Popstation file….the GUI just makes it simpler to use, cause some people don’t understand how to work it when it’s a command prompt thing, so just make sure it’s a “modifyed version” when you download it….

3.10 OE-A Easy Installer
Dark AleX has recently released the 3.10 Custom Firmware. This download is very simple to use, as the DXAR file is already created for you. To install:
1. Move these two folders to either Game or Game150, depending where you have your main kernel folder set to (if you have 1.50 this can only be Game).
2. Run the Installer eboot from your Game Folder
3. Press X when instructed
4. Reboot when instructed.
5. Enjoy 3.10OE-A!

I just upgraded to 3.10OE-A (DAX you’re the man/woman whoever you are) Have anyone try to use the memory stick with all the upgrade info and upgrade another PSP? I remember 2.8 and higher firewares had an issue with using homebrews from one memory stick with another PSP. I don’t want to brick my friend’s psp. Since I have the dxar file on my memory stick it would be easier to just put my memory stick in his PSP and run OEFlasher from his 1.5 PSP. Please let me know.

just in case nobody knows, PSP filer 2.4 will let you write what ever you want to flash without any checks what so ever so if you feel brave and want those custom icons go get psp filer and run it in 1.50 folder and start moddin you XMB without the safety net of x-flash that is if your not too noob & scared
so dos the FILER 2.9+ version allso … it includes how much space left in flash0 and 1 oxo

good work DAX… although everyone seems to be having problems with PS1 games, I can’t get some PSP isos to run un 3.10-oe (they ran fine under 3.03-oe-C). If anyone could check, Splinter Cell Essentials runs the intro movies, then goes to a “this game could not be loaded.” Newer firmwares are always a great achievement for everyone(read: new features), even if there are a few new bugs. If anyone with the new firmware could check out Splinter Cell, I would much appreciate it. Thanks. -ben

i’ve had limited success with isos… i had to go back to 3.03 oe-c, and now all of my isos run fine. i don’t know what was up with 3.10, and i haven’t heard of anyone else having problem playing their psp isos, but Splinter Cell-Essentials would not play past intro movies, but Dungeon Siege, and Me and My Katamari worked. The three games I tried were all isos, played from the XMB. I’m going to wait before I upgrade again to see if anyone else has any problems…
Try running with a UMD in it with “No UMD” set to Disabled. There were games I’ve tried that won’t run without a UMD inserted and the “No UMD” set to Enabled. Although that was when I was still running 3.03OE-C.
I’ve had no problems with ISO’s sure there were thoes feww that never loaded on OE but would on Dev-Hook, but everything else works.
Well i for one love custom firmwares. and the recovery menu has saved my ass on more then 3 ocassions. the only thing i dont like is the fact that there are some bugs (in the System languages, there are two that dont work…the last 2) and the fact that location free wont work. i can personally enjoy not spending $300 on it but yet i use my friends all the time. so no more tv for me i guess. it is an awesome version(the visual player changes color, how cool is that :)

ive had a few ps1 game ike colin mcrae working flawless when the grafix glitches were too much to play with before, disable all plugins tho
they were made for 3.03 fw not 3.10, most still work but some crash & stop pops runnin rite
Probably an unpopular wish from me is for Sony to stop releasing FW updates for a short (long) while, say three months so that OE can stabilise/slow down so AhMan can get to work on an IR Shell for OE. I love Dark Alex custom firmware but I miss NetHost and USBHost, wanna launch OE XMB with IRS in the background and stuff.
I actually spend more time in IRS than the XMB.
You’all prolly think I’m wacked out for saying the above, I don’t want Sony to try to freeze Dark Alex like they did with Booster.

Yes photiscta, with this custom firmware you can play PSX games and PSP (.iso and .cso) games without install Devhook.
-UMD games work fine here
-Web Browser work fine.
-FFVII work fine
-.iso and .cso work fine. Only Splinter Cell stop work after install this 3.10 OE . After the intro the game quit with the message.
“The game could not be started.”

You can not install a 310oea on a 310 sony firmware.
You should read some more about stuff in the forum and wait for a 3.10 downgrader.
Maybe in the mean time there is a 3.10 downgrader(i think not), else there will be soon, i am sure!!

Can someone smart & not a noob in testing these firmwares just list what files and folders should be kept on the mem stick after the 3.03 OE-C or 3.10 OE-A upgrades so that the PSX & SNES emulators work right instead of giving the “The game could not be started. (8002014C)” error. It’ll definitely help cleanup the extras which are not needed like netconfigbackup.

1. actually upgraded to 3.10 OE and not Sony’s 3.10?
2. have your homebrew/iso’s in the right folders?
For number 1, if you’re sure you went to OE, then go to #2. If you didn’t, you’re severely screwed.
For number 2, check to see if you accidentally put your stuff in the wrong folders. Kinda obvious, but it happens.

no it isn’t. Not without GTA like he asked. There’s not that good of a chance of that happening unless another exploit is found. So if you’re on TA-082 with 2.81+ the only option will be to get an unpatched GTA. However, GTA was the only way to load games before (on 2.5 or 2.6), and then there was the 2.71 HEN exploit, so maybe they will find an exploit in 3.1* with a non-GTA exploit.

NO. some probs might be lurking here and there as i mention above. but if u need them then just stick with 3.03oec. i had the same prob with Metal Slug Anthology. (MS6 to be exact)
damn thing wont load. but MS1-5 works propery. just that 1 im into.
so now im in 3.03oec. and me other psp is on 3.10 oea. ready to test these comming releases on compatibility.

On my SONY 1bg, it took almost half an hour.
But on my SONY 2BG it only took a minute.
and on my SANDISK 4gb it only took no more than 30 secs.
it reeally depends on your memory cards speed and brand.
hey arc angelz, NO it wont work. you will haft to wait for a 3.10 downgrader to downgrade to firmware v1.5 then you can install the custom firmware 3.10 OE-A. Read all the forums and learn as much as you can, and never use sony’s update if you want homebrew some day.

beacause if your gonna be tampering with your psp’s fw then you’ll need to do your own research like countless of peoples that knows it’s foolish to ask because it is not only embarasing it could also lead you to a brick if given the wrong advise.
most newbies then tend to look up further details and cant seem to have enough when only if they did it right the first time… ( starting to sound like my father, i better stop)

Can someone smart & not a noob in testing these firmwares just list what files and folders should be kept on the mem stick after the 3.03 OE-C or 3.10 OE-A upgrades so that the PSX & SNES emulators work right instead of giving the “The game could not be started. (8002014C)” error. It’ll definitely help cleanup the extras which are not needed like netconfigbackup.
you might have a bad flash.
try recover back to 1.50 and doing it all again from scratch.(making dxar and all)
then if your still experiencing same probs. goto this site forums and read up the ” error code ” thread and im sure you’ll be playing psx, snes emulation in no time.
But if u ask me. u should stick with 3.03oec. since it could handle them two in spicific in ease.

Because I wanted to play splinter cell (won’t play on 310_OE) I went back to303_OE without first going back to 1.50. That was NOT a good idea! Brick my PSP now and even worse: NO recovery available! Anybody knows what to do?
you cant go from 3.10 oea to 3.03 oec?
and the only way you can go back to previous FWs on 3.10oea is if you either goto recovery or replace the recovery’s PBP to whatever FW you want on.
I smell something not right here.
If your serious you have a bick and the PSP wont even go on and the mem stick light flashes then the unit turn off. then you have a brick. if you still have XMB controls then you have a chance on going CFW again.
Here’s another useful info i’ve found.
3.10 oe-a has a few pros, they are 1 and most important, latest fw meaning even if a new game requires 3.10 fw to run, we have something to make tha happen. 2 LCD bightness available to maximum level. very useful on out doors on a bright sunny day and makes PSP screen more dinamic IMO. (btw, i ow about the plugin) 3 PAL PSX Pops emulation comatible. no more converting regions to NTSC. now its as easy as rip and play. And many more as I’m sure we’ll bump into later on.
Cons: 1 Still a little buggy (Even tho imo it’s the most buggies OE release of DA) but yet it works!
2 some iso/backups wont load. Due to new scripts and codes added by SONY (which feels like to me a sign that sony are VERY courious on how DA’s work reacts on their new found restrictions) 3 this list could go on ‘m sure as we go along.
My 2 cent is we are frtunate enough to witness Open Edition on it’s finest and we ALL should be donating like crazy to DA and other devs that deserves the credit (both literally and figuratevly)
If anyone is foolish enough to give nothing but negative pointers to this GREAT release then you have nothing to say or prove compare to these awsome devs that have proven again and again that their work means ALOT to the commnity.
I myself have gotten a few serious and not so serious issues dealling with the Homebrew scene but always found myself respecting more and more of their works as I use them.
The bottom line is if there is anyone dumb enough to use this without atleast reading it’s README’s and such. Then you deserve nothing else but the problem you caused yourselves.
And those peoples that post retarded things like “I used this and now Im bricked” like post.
Either your full of sh**! or just too dumb to understand SIMPLE instructions.
For those genuine about this CFW causing their brick. I’m sure you and no one else caused that due to either your mistake or hardware isseues.
So if your sencere you have SERIOUS issues. You can start by going to forums and looking there instead of it getting lost or flamed in this type of places.

Yes, if you preffer to do it that way. Or you can just mount flash0 from recovery>advanced and replace “ltn0.pgf” (backup before you recplace/delete) on “f0:\font” folder with the font of your choice. I suggest for you to do it that way. Much easier and safer. Just don’t tamper around with the other files in there because if you delete/modify any files relating to recovery. You’ll end up having a brick. Unless of course you know wha you are doing.

Actually D’Arcs X-flash wouldn’t be able to load at all in 3.03oe-c or 3.10oe-a. For some reason he hasn’t been releasing update revision of his X-flash series. Pitty though. I always liked that brew. It was very useful.
But I guess there’nothing X-Flash cn do now days that we can do manually. I mean by debranding the gameboot we could just Hex” it now days. same with the Debrand bootlogo. font modicifation is just as simple as I mention on my post above. The only thing I can think of that we’re missing out on is the version spoof, but there a version changer that would do the same job. The custom about screen is also do-able, so all in all. X-Flash I guess became obsolete to users that knew how this modifications were done.
Still I’m a VERY greatful fan of D’Arc’s X-flash and if he was to release a new version, I would download and use in a heart beat.

I’m sure that more that half of the CFW users out there (wise ones anyway) came with the same conclusion. Yet this release never the less is an achiement. Which deserves to be credited. It’s like the first 3.XX OEA release. Not everyone jumped on the boat as soon as it release. Now days as soon as theirs a new OE-X release. People wouldn’t even think otherwise to go for it.
I’m sure you had your legit reasons with your final reason. But you should be more appriciative to it’s creator(s) since it was them that made it possible for you to still be playing with your PSP.
Today you give 3.10 OE-A a bad post but as soon as 3.10 OE-B comes out I’m sure you’ll think otherwise.
Nah DA is a King, i am back on 3.03, just didnt like this one for now. Still you gotta praise DA.

Yes. if you read the Readme.txt in the archive they spicifically say what you can and cannot update from. Plus you wont have to wait for an answr to proceed.

For whoever it was that asked about where the PSX games went on the MS duo and what the folder structure of the memory stick was:-
I have 3 files and two folders initially,
the files are:- memstick.ind, mstk.pro.ind, loadexec.prx along with PSP and ISO folders.
PSP/
Game (for eboot games/PSX games)
Game150 (havent used except for 3.03 OE-C installation, but 1.50 eboots go here)
Game271 (2.71 eboots go here)
Music
Photo
Savedata
ISO/ (for iso’s strangely)
(Game150, game271 etc etc, if you have an eboot for a particular firmware, it may need to be in a folder named accordingly. So if you needed a game 150 and for some reason didn’t have one, just create one in the correct place).

DAX is a demigod in the PSP scene, the amount of stuff opened up to users is nothing short of amazing. Sony’s constant updates to try and close the doors are a major irritation, but even if they do manage to stop things, the amount of users now able to access Dark Alex’ stuff so far will always be a thorn in their sides. The work done to date makes devhook look dated (and complicated), and it was only a few months back that devhook was king.
I know this is the 3.10 OE-A thread, but I am waiting until the finer details are fully worked out. I just figured I should add the folder structure info here.
One question, did I read in here that 3.10 allows PAL PSX titles to run properly rather than just NTSC? If so, then the biggest reason for me to make the move to 3.10 may well have already arrived.
finally, why are so many people in here intent on using the PSP as a web browser? Is it really worth it? I have used a PDA and a mobile phone online (even used a Wii) and all were singularly unsatisfying browsers, I just have trouble understanding why this is such a big thing. I know everybody wants something different from the PSP, but for me, they could get rid of the browser altogether (or is there a good reason for having it?) and just have a PSP that plays PSP games, PSX game (PAL as well as NTSC), movies for the long train/plain rides, and that’d be pretty much spot on for me. OH, and maybe a hardware mod adding a second analog stick :-)
To everybody who has ever created a firmware mod, games mod, or way to get around the artificial limitations imposed by manufacturers, and all those who have tried, tested and used them, I for one give a big thank you. Keep it up DAX

Can anyone help me….? i tried to upgrade from 1.5 to Custom FW 3.10 and bricked my psp. After i turn on the power only a green light appears and nothing else. No recovery screen…nothing, the light on the left side doesn’t blink or anything…only the green light. Is my psp full or semi bricked? Plz help.

2 bricks, in 3 days. i upgraded to this fw, did all the steps correctly, was able to play iso,umd,etc,fine for abour 24 hrs. then, went to power on.nuttin.zip.ziltch.brick.returned, did the same steps.played fine,various isos etc from different mem sticks, then baboom. brick again.

Not that I don’t appreciate the custom firmwares, but why don’t they get published as the actual dxar files instead of having to build it? 3 times I’ve tried to build the dxar and it never works. Yes. Just go to the system settings and right next to where it says 3.10 (with a black permanent marker) write OE.
I updated to 3.10 OE-A… and on system settings it says 3.10 OE-A…. but i cant load the recovery menu… i press R when it boots up

hi i followed a xmb icon hacking guide and did everything and sheit and i accidently pressed home and went to home before it finished doing it and while it was going home it went to a black screen and turns off. and after that whenever i turn my psp on it goes to a black screen for like 20 seconds thens turns off. it never goes tot he original menu. i panially went usb mode and deleted flash 0 and something else so its like default folders i have 3.03 OCE and yea. i have a backup of topmenu.rco and flash0 by getting them from using another one of my psp’s and getting them anyway i can fix this problem?
Can a PSP with a TA-082 motherboard have custom firmware on it….. My girlfriend just got a TA-082 2.71….. I downgraded it successfully but I am a little reluctant to put 3.10 OE-A on it
