3.03 Downgrader Released!

They said it was coming within the week, and as promised, here it is! The long awaited 3.03 easy-to-use downgrader!
The almighty Noobz have laid out some specific ground-rules:
- This downgrader is for v3.03 firmware only. But if you have v2.81 – v3.02, no problem – you can just upgrade to v3.03 to use the downgrader.
- You need a copy of the unpatched GTA:Liberty City Stories UMD. No ISOs, no patched UMDs, not Vice City Stories. The most reliable way: the unpatched disks have the v2.0 firmware update on them.
- This downgrader is intended to enable homebrew. Homebrew is NOT the same as piracy. Don’t be a thieving loser – buy the games you play.
- The downgrader will work on all current PSP hardware (TA-079 – TA-086). Patching of TA-082+ is automatic in the downgrader.
- You downgrade at your own risk. There is always a chance of bricking, although we have done everything we can think of to make this process safe.
Everything you need to know concerning a successful downgrade can be found in “Downgrader_HOWTO.txt.” Read them carefully!
Also, for those who fear messing with their PSP’s flash, can take advantage of the full homebrew experience with Homebrew Enabler (HEN) for 3.03. “HEN 303 – the Duff release” works in the same manner as Dark_AleX’s HEN. The requirements: a firmware 3.03 PSP and an unpatched version of Grand Theft Auto: Libery City Stories. Details on installation and usage are inside README.txt.
Warning: After downgrading from 3.03 to 1.5, there are some remnants of 3.03 left in flash. If you later try to re-upgrade to 3.03 and repeat the downgrade, things will break. At some later point, we will work on a cleaner that will remove these extra files. Until then, enjoy! (Don’t worry, upgrading to 3.03 OE firmwares still works fine).

No! You must name it UPDATE.PBP or it will not know what type of file it is. It will automaticaly change the extention for you if you name it that.

anyways, maybe your problem is that in your windows explorer u didnt turn on the extension view. I think your problem it has been. Hidden extension. check it out on like: open Windows explorer. Go to Tools, folder options, View (tab). Then look deactivate Hide extension for known file types.

ok this may make me sound like a noob but as soon as i saw this i downgraded my custom firmware using the recovery folder and i then upgraded the 3.03 and downgraded back to 1.50 to see if this shit works and it did freaking gr8 o/

I have a big question for people who dont have GTA LCS. May you use another umd game/disc that has something that says upgrade 2.0?
don’t think so mate. I remeber when I had my own 2.50 psp, GTA-LCS was the only UMD letting me play the eLoader (like HEN) due to an exploit the noobs found in its code. after all, you boot the programs like GTA save games, so I DON’T think any other UMD with FW update 2.00 would do the job

Instructions
————
Here are the steps to downgrade any 3.03 PSP to 1.50:
1 – If you have a 3.03 PSP skip to step 6
2 – Download 3.03 update from here:
http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-3.03-PSP/pg/12/fid/11844/catid/163
3 – Unzip and place the file in :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE
4 – On the PSP, run the 3.03 update from the memory stick under the Game menu.
5 – Delete :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE
6 – Copy the contents of the folder MS_ROOT from the 3.03 downgrader ZIP to
the memory stick
7 – Unzip the 1.50 update to a temporary folder. Rename the EBOOT.PBP to
UPDATE.PBP and copy it to :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ . DO NOT
OVERWRITE PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP!
8 – Load GTA LCS
9 – It should get to loading savegame, then the screen will clear to black
and fill with a light blue colour, then the PSP will reset itself (if
this does not happen see section below)
10 – Check that HEN is running by going to system settings, then to
“System Information” and it should show up as system version
303 HEN
11 – If it is showing up as HEN then go to the memory stick and
run the x.yz update
12 – If you have an unpatched TA-082 or higher motherboard, you will be
prompted to allow the downgrader to patch your motherboard so it
can be safely downgraded. The downgrader will not let you proceed
without patching, if your motherboard requires it.
13 – Before the downgrader does anything to your PSP it will ask
for you to agree to what it is doing, if you no longer want to
continue press the Right Shoulder Button (R-TRIGGER).
14 – Once you have agreed to start the downgrade do not unplug the
PSP, or try and restart it
15 – Once finished the PSP will ask you to press X, and reset itself
16 – If it comes up saying that the settings are corrupt, press x
to continue, this will mean you will need to re-enter the
settings for network connections into your PSP, otherwise go to
step 18
17 – Load the included NetConfigBackup application in your PSP, and select to
restore, this will take the backup that was done of the network config
that was done automatically during the downgrade.
18 – All done now :-) Hopefully you now have a 1.50 PSP. Enjoy it responsibly.
Troubleshooting
—————
- Ensure that you have the original GTA LCS, it should have a 2.00 update
on the UMD, if it does not then it is a later version and can not be used
to downgrade.
- If GTA does not load 3.03 HEN and it loads up a save game, try making
a backup copy of all of the directories in :/PSP/SAVEDATA/
before deleting them. Then try copying the contents of the 303 HEN zip
to there.
- If when trying to restore the network config using netconf backup you
find that it gives you an error on the downgraded 1.50 PSP, try adding
a temporary network config, then deleting it and run the netconf backup
again.

Try changing the last part of #6 to the ROOT of the memory stick aka the first place/white space you see when you click on the PSP drive. Don’t copy the files to any other folder in the memory stick. (Some ppl dunno what part of the memory stick, so this is to clear things out.)
for step 6 do i need to copy the folder until the psp or wats inside the folder?
I want to thank everyone involved. My PSP was ‘lifeless’ when my wife accidentally pressed the wrong button and performed a network upgrade to firmware 2.81.
I waited for what seemed like ages for someone to downgrade from 2.81 and then all of a sudden it was possible to downgrade from 3.03.
I was lucky to pick up a preowned copy of GTA:LCS from my local Game store for £13 which is a very small price to pay for unlocking the potential of my PSP. My GTA:LCS UMD has a black background with the code ULES-00151 on it.
I then upgraded the firmware to 3.03oe_c which is much better than devhook 0.52.

but you can’t run gta liberty cities or your flash from card!! so no you can not downgrade on laptop!!

i am new to homebrew, and i am scared to take a risk, what does “unpatched” mean on unpatched umd
sony patched the loop hole in the umd. meaning you have to have an older umd (it has the 2.0 update on it instead of a higher one) to run this downgrader
does it have to be gta:lcs or can it be different umd with 2.0 update on it, cause i have a “crash tag team racing” with 2.0 update
it has to be gta the downgrader uses the game save loop hole! the only reason the 2.0 upgrade is sugnificant (however u spell it) is that it tells you that you have the unpatched umd!

It is not because of the game, in 2 months they are coming out with a PSP time machine. You download it and put it on your PSP and you can time travel from 1639-2064. I can’t wait for it to come out.

Is the unpatched version the GTA:LCS that is on sale in Gamestop?
If I remember correctly, the 2.0 update version of LCS was pulled from shelves and replaced with the 2.x version, so I wouldn’t bet the $40 or whatever on them forgetting to exchange the older discs for the newer. Just rent it at Blockbuster, etc, because they get games when theyre brand new, so theirs should be unpatched.

Why would you want to go back to 3.03? Because if you go to 3.03 oe-C you can run homebrew and play the latest games from $ony plus on top of that you have a recovery menu that allows you to unbrick your psp if something goes wrong later on down the road. No the update alone will not do anything you have to have liberty city stories unpatched edition without it you cant run homebrew which is what does the actual downgrading

Ight I got the unpatched version of lcs but I dropped it and it came out the case yea that lil umd case it came out of but I put it back 2getehr and it still works hsould I still try 2 downgrade or will it mess me up???
you should be ok as long as it will play the game well if you hear any clicking or scraping of the drive you need to get another, or you can rip apart another game you dont like and switch the discs then super glue the cases together. be very careful when you glue it and do not glue it with the game in it. glue the top part of the plastic case then when it is dry slip the game into the bottom
My UMD casing opened up about halfway, so that the disc itself easily comes out of the housing. It still works fine, as long as the casing is about where it origialy was. The umd drive should hold it in place if you just put the disc in the housing and then put it into the drive.

best way to tell is if the game has 2.00 update on it. just borrow one from one of your friends
there is no difference visually there is a tpoic in the forums which tackles this check that out
the out side of the umd is exactly the same the only difference like laptop said is the 2.0 upgrade it has when you put it in your psp. the newer one has a higher upgrade

You probably have a corrupted 1.5 update try downloading it again if it is the same update that you used to downgrade it might have been decrypted and now it is unusable or it just screwed up and you need to redownload the update or you placed it in the wrong folder. Just some tips to look out for
I had this same problem, you need to put the 1.50 update in the PSP/GAME/oeupdate folder.

i wouldnt depend on a easy downgrader, because it CAN result in 100s of bricks before it gets fixed. Remember the time after new years with that one easy OEA upgrade? 100’s of half-bricks for 6 hours, the finally a fix was released…. I rather follow the instructions in the included readme from the n00bz release.

The main part of the memory stick, the part that you see your folders first thing, and do not copy the contents in any other folder, just drag and drop over to the first thing/white space you see when you click on the PSP drive. aka the ROOT of the memory stick.

What do you do with or what is the purrpose of the SRC folder its not mentioned at all in the instructions. Step 6 says copy contents of the MS_Root folder to your stick in which SRC folder is not in the MS_ROOT folder so what the heck?
My guess would be to put in the root of the stick but it dosen’t say anthing about it.
the SRC folder is the sorce code for the downgrader in case you want to make improvements on it or make an easy downgrader. if you don’t know C++ pretty much disregard it
I tried this with a pink psp but the downgrader didn’t work because the “303 HEN-Firmware” doesn’t load up after loading the half of the savegame. So it seems to me that the goofy exploid doesn’t work for “ALL” psp’s like it is said in the readme.
do you have the unpatched umd? if i recall when i tried this way back with the first downgrader i had a simular prob and it turned out i had the wrong umd. if your umd has the 2.6 upgrade on it you have the wrong disk if it has the 2.0 your good

Why do you want a clear flash you can update to 3.03 oe-C and flash your flash from your computer under the recovery menu

like i said in the comment above you need to upgrade to 3.03 oe-C. 2 reasons for this one it will format your flash before installing and 2 it gives you the ability to flash your flash from the recovery menu and you have the ability to unbrick your psp if anything goes wrong

You need to update to firmware 3.03 oe-C. this will format your flash before it installs and it will allow you to hook your psp to your computer and view and modify your flash from your computer. plus if you make a mistake you can just reflash your psp from the recovery menu and try again.

all the files go under the Psp/game folder on your memory stick
detailed: open ms_Root/game/psp of the downgrader zip, copy all files to game/psp on the memory stick of your psp run appropriet stuff enjoy

i can’t get this to work. I have tried the exploit and seen the fire screen with my GTA LCS. It doesn’t return my psp at the load screen. Do i just have to copy MS folder because whats the SRC folder there for? Someone please guide me. I named my psp 1.5 update to UPDATE.PBP but when i look at it on my xmb it just shows as corrupt icon. whats wrong?

u will need an loader if not using the 3.03 oe-c homebrew …
yes you will still have the internet explorer and be able to run UMDs but you will not be able to play homebrew untill Dark_Alex comes up with another devhook version but it would just make more sense to just downgrade and then upgrade to 3.03 since all that stuff is already included in it and you have the nice ability to unbrick your psp if something unfortunate happens

I´do everitng what the help file says but when i load gta my screen turns blue and it back to the menu.i do what say in the hlp file and i run x.yz file and that cheat back to the menu and i cant do the downgrad i dont know what i need to do please someone help me..

can you play games that need the 2.81 firmware using irshell?
you will have some major problems with trying to run it with ir shell i personally recommend that you switch to 3.03 oe-C this will allow you to run ISOs play homebrew and still be able to run UMDs up till 3.03 and you also get a nice unbrick recovery menu. otherwise look under the psp downloaders and loaders section

It works! Straight from 3.03 – 1.50 and back to 3.03 OEC. My PSP had no markings inside the UMD but it still detected it as a TA-082+ so it patched it automatically as part of the downgrade and everything is working fine. Great work!

here is the real beauty of 3.03 oe-C. Like BrokeWorm said you can run ISO right off of your memory stick, but on top of that you will be able to play all $ony released UMDs with out any emulation. You can run all the Homebrew you want and you have a special recovery menu just incase something really bad happens to your flash. In short it combines 1.5 ability to run homebrew and 3.03 ability to run all the latest games by $ony and you get a recovery menu. You cant beat that
Sure, there is a recovery menu when you hold the right trigger (R), but where is the Recovery folder with the EBOOT file? It isn’t present.
As the mans says you can run homebrew and run isos of your games from the memory stick. I am failry new to all this as well. I use DAX dumper v0.2 to make backups of my games, then compress them using PSP ISO shrink and put them on the memory stick. Why bother? well you can play multiple games without changing a disk all from the memory stick. A 4GB disk can hold 4 large or 8 medium/small games. Wicked!
