Custom Firmware 3.03 OE-C Released

Today Dark_AleX has released custom firmware 3.03 Open Edition Revision C! Due to substantial changes in the bootstrap, you’ll be required to perform a full installation in order to get this fresh new firmware flashed & running:
- Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you are in
2.71 SE, 3.02 OE or 3.03 OE. Copy also the 1.50 and 3.03 updaters with the names 150.PBP and 303.PBP.- Execute the update maker. It will generate the dxar file.

Copy also the dxar file inside 303oeflasher.- Execute the flasher and follow the instructions.
What’s changed in OE-C (including Popstation changes):
- AVC videos bitrate limit patched. The firmware limited the bitrate of avc videos to only 768 Kbps. OE now forces the limit to be 16384 Kbps. (Note: this doesn’t mean than the psp can handle such a high bitrate; this means than they won’t show error. I don’t know which is the real maximum bitrate than the psp can handle at full speed).
- Speed of OE boot is now ~3 seconds faster than previous versions. (without plugins).
- Cpu speed of XMB can now be changed.
- Wifi can now work at 333 Mhz.
- Added access to flashes 0 and 1 via usb in the recovery menu, based on the great idea of USBSSS by Booster. Note that writing is enabled, so this is intended only for advanced users that know what they are doing in each moment. (It is not a great idea to change anything from the kd folder). Because of this addition, the rest of flashing options were removed.
- PSP isos can now be deleted as any normal memstick games. (also the size of the iso now shows fine when you press triangle->information).
- When formatting memory stick, GAME150, GAME303 and ISO directories will be automatically created.
- Changes in internal HEN core:
- If a EBOOT.PBP with a plain DATA.PSP had a data.psar, modulemgr took as size of the executable the size of data.psp+data.psar. Fixed. (this fix enables psx games to have plain data.psp without causing a memory error).
- Added a couple of patches found by Tyranid. One allows syscalls instructions to be used in kernel mode without causing a crash. The other allows sceKernelQueryModuleInfo to work with sceInit and previous modules.
- POPs: The writing is now a bit different. This avoid “Memory stick blinking too much” bug when using the plugin to load the 3.02 pops.
- POPs: popstation now lets the use of non-encrypted DATA.PSP. If data.psp is in the same directory as the app, popstation will use that as the DATA.PSP of the eboot.pbp. Otherwise, it will use the one from BASE.PBP. A DATA.PSP that imitates the original sony one is included.
EBOOT.PBP generated with a non encrypted data.psp won’t need the file KEYS.BIN at all.
Its also been noted that these new Popstation EBOOTs will not work with prior 3.03 OE versions.

PBP IS THE NAME OF THE FILE I HOPE THIS HELP GUYS
PBP is the file extension, not the filename. If you have windows set up to show file extensions, it will show as 303.PBP and 150.PBP If you have windows set to not show file extensions you won’t see the pbp

I have all ways have a doubt with this I Downloaded the 3.02 0E and well perfect! love it i can play the psp games with out a sweat but what about if I want to play with the emulators? isnt there a way to play with them or use afkim with this kind of programs?
Put homebrew (emulators etc.) in the GAME150 folder and they will work. Dark_Alex, keep up the good work!

LOVE THE OE best of both worlds wrapped into one, I just wish I hadn’t updated 1 of my PSP’s to 2.81 before this had come out, otherwise both my PSP’s would be sporting 3.03 OE and someday again maybe I will if/when a Downgrader is written, but just give thanks to DA for his work and stop whining about downgraders.

No you dont need to go to 3.03 OE-A then to OEB, you can update to this version straight from 1.50 if you want, its a full flash

This is a full flash according to PSP-HACKS, so NO, you will not need to update, as long as you can run the updater (so you have a Homebrew enabled PSP) you can use this app to flash straight to 3.03 OE-C

No you do not have to FLipIn. I just installed from 3.02OEB and everything looks great. The only things I have noticed is the gameboot MS0 mod and Xflash v18k do not work, but I expect that to be resolved soon.

I’m the total newbie when it comes to this stuff….I have a 1.5FW so I’m in good shape but I’m still anxious about using this….Is there something I need to do with the real 3.03FW files before I run through this? Will I be prompted? Or can I just follow the above instructions and I’ll be good to go. Thanks. I’m a bit of nervious nelly when it comes to the PSP.

just flash the psp with fw 3.03 oea or 3.02 oe-a and them run the recovery i did it like this and work i hope this help

why does alot of older hombrew not work with OE’s, i can get some to work but not older stuff like snake or PSP air hokey. other wise awsome update!
have you try setting the kernal to 1.50 in the recovery mode?

At first: NO you stupid NOOBS you dont musst update to an other OE!!!! The Flash will be formated anyway! It dont have any sense.
FAnd Now I wana say that I love the new firmware, Because the function to brows the Flash0 on PC is wonderful. I Have try to copy a new Icon Set to the Flash, and it works great. You can see how many speace are free too. Thanks Dark_Alex!

The only thing that puts me off about this update is, previous PSX RBOOT’s wont work with this update.
Previous PSX EBOOTS work only those created using the new popstation will not work on the older OEs

You can if you successfully downgraded to 1.5, the only thing you cant do on a TA-082 is update from 1.5 ~ 2.5 official sony update, this will brick a TA-082

Have any of you ran into this problem:
You are out of space on your memory stick and see this album of music you don’t listen to much anymore. You can’t delete the entire folder because it has album art in it and it says it can’t be deleted because there is other types of data in it. I would like to see that changed.
google for a software called “unlocker”it will
delete anything that your pc tells you,you cant delete! i had a folder on my desktop for years i couldn’t remove even in safe mode till i got this software : )
He means deleting the folder using the PSP, no PC involved.
format your memory stick dude that will solve your problem… it’s showing that message because there are hidden image files together with your mp3s so next time copy only the mp3 files and not entire folders.

Make sure your eboots are in the oeupdatemaker folder, not the 303oeflasher folder. after creating the dxar, place it in 303oeflasher.

Only took me a couple minutes. You may try formatting your memstick before running the update makere.

Look in the forum, there is already talk of the new update & installers
If you update – You will not have to worry about PSX working, It works great. If you don’t upgrade – PSX’s that are created with the new popstation will not work on OLDER firmware Ver. So if you don’t upgrade and someone makes a PSX with this version it wont work on your system.

Depends on what Firmware ver. you have now, & what you have to do. There is always a chance when you mess with flash…BUT it has gotten A LOT better the last few updates with the pre checks and security that Alex as put in the updates. GREAT WORK ALEX!!!

Nothing will be 100% safe – not even Sony’s official updates. You are more likely to have to worry about PSP Brickers than this update breaking it.
Ah… problem… X-flash wont work with 3.03 OE-C, I’m gonna wait until an updated X-Flash comes out… need X-Flash.

Hi no probs before with past updates but it wont open 1.5.PBP ?, I do get a dxar file which I copy(not move inside 303oeflasher but then when i run the firmare install ie validating dxar file it says not existing or corrupt data; help!
Format Memory Stick and try again following directions. Or there are installers in the forums already.

The post says that the PSX Games created with OE-C are not backward compatible. NOT that older PSX Games are not compatible with 3.03 OE-C… Older ones should work fine.

This CFW does have a no umd mode. just hold right trigger when booting up, go to configuration, and select no umd mode – enabled
Yes it does have NO-UMD mode (as with every other 3.xx firmware but only that GTA LC and VCS actually didnt work with the CFW older than this one. I haven’t test it out yet but I think it’s not been fixed yet “just”for the GTA games. Correct me if I’m wrong psper’s.
one question…are there recovery files in this one?…(not that i’d ever want to go back to 1.50 DA you ROCK!!!!) and if not can i use the same ones for 3.02 as was done on revs A, A2 and B?

Downgraders are harder to do, they need to find a user mode exploit, similar to the tiff exploit, which was patched in 2.81, so anyone with or over 2.81 may have a long wait. All I can say is DO NOT UPDATE anymore.

yes you can upgrade from any version including 1.5 if you wanted, it completely flashes your PSP
works a treat aye, mine are on 3.03 OE-B with custom topmenu, its reset teh topmenu but works as they all do….awesomely ;-)
I just reflashed my topmenu and gameboot, now certain icons don’t show up i.e. web browser, locationfree, and sometimes the memstick. I defaulted everthing back, seems you can only flash one or the other not both. If you find a fix please tell me.
I love you dark_alex but just on question on the next update can you place a simple battery monitor in the custom firmware. it is kind of anoying waiting with a bricked psp not knowing if you have 75% yet. Thanks and I still love you you are the greatest

Can’t you READ? you can update from 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-C or from any other custom FW, you can even upgrade from 1.5 fw. 3.03 OE-C completely writes to flash.
If you didn’t already know, this is the same kind of update as 3.03 OE-A and I have updated 3.03 OE-A straight from 1.5

Make sure you are in 1.5 kernel mode, or put everything in the GAME150 folder (same directory as the GAME folder.

Current popstations GUI’s should work, the only problem is, any new PSX games made for 3.03 OE-C wont work on lower versions than 3.03 OE-C
but hold your horses….I don’t see any major changes from 3.03 OE-B. Plus the risk you take flashing a TA-082…
i just got a brick off ebay. but the guy sed it bricked from 3.03oe-a to 3.03oe-b so why even when i hold R on boot up cant i get recovery mode? any help would be cool :-I
Let me get this right… you said you can get recovery mode yes? just put recovery folder in the game folder and get the 1.5 update eboot, rename it to UPDATE.PBP go into recovery and run the eboot, then your back at 1.5 :)
nope i can NOT get recovery mode oh and its jap too! back light works but black screen powers off after 20 secs.
It might be something simple have u tried just hitting the screen button after the light goes off? When i first did a flash it would boot up then turn off the screen for no reason i could hear sound but no screen. Turned out i just had to hit the screen button and everything was actually fine.
it just shuts itself down after 20 secs so i think its had it.
check if its TA-082, if its not TA-082 get modchip

If you have 1.50, you can either use devhook or better yet, you can upgrade it to this 3.03OEC for more fun such as PSX games
guess i will just have to get the soldering iron out and take the U P root. could be fun!
You are gonna need a microscope to actually finish the soldering. The lines are smaller than the width of a LCD pixel man.

If you have 1.5 fw, you can basically use any devhook, unless it’s made specifically for certain fw.

Go read the forum about that. The forum basically tells you everything you need to know. Instead of asking many devhook-related questions here, it’s better for you to just upgrade your 1.5 to 3.03 OE-C. You won’t regret by doing so.

I don’t see why you wanna go back to 1.5 while you can do everything in the 3.03OE. You can run emulators and psp isos directly from the xmb game memu. No need for devhook emulation.

PSP has the capabilities to run at 333mhz, some games would do it without you even knowing.
Sony turned it down by default since it would consume alot more power.

Create a folder in memory stick root called ISO. after copying the iso/cso games to this folder, you can just run the game in Memory Stick of the XMB’s Game menu.

For those of you who are wondering what recovery file should you use just in case… I recommend using the 3.02OE A BASIC INSTALLER_150. I tried it already and it’s safe to use.

I tried playing UMD Burnout Legends and the opening is different from my iso backup.. and the UMD BL would hang once in a while. Anybody experiencing the same problem? Is it just on the recovery set up?

i think it is unique for each psp because if it wasnt, they would just give u the dxar file.

BTW this DATA.DAXAR is made on PSP not PC, so the PC specs mean nothing

Glad to hear it, I could make an easy installer, but how do you know, I didnt accidently give you a 3.03 or 1.5 customised EBOOT? this could fuck up your recovery mode, thats why its best to use officila 1.3 update and official 3.03 update to make your DATA.DXAR file, then use the flasher folders with you DXAR file.
That should have been official 1.5 not 1.3… typo soz :)

I got it to work and I installed 3.03 OE-C successfully.
What I did:
Removed UMD from drive
Re-downloaded the 3.03 eboot
Changed CPU speed to Default
Used a different memory card, a sandisk 512mb (was using a 2gb Sony)
Something I did triggered it so do the above and it should work.
Took about 5 mins on mine but reading the coments on here it different on each psps, could be memory cards (cheapos off ebay). Leave it for at least 60 mins m8.
Anyone using C-Intro still got it working?
Not working anymore and I so loved the intros I have running.

- To enter in recovery menu, press R when power on the psp.
The recovery mode lets to set options, and it lets to recover potential bricks, as soon as
the 1.50 bootstrap is intact.
- Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP. This is what currently enables to recover a
semi-bricked psp (e.g. the vsh doesn’t show, but you can reach the recovery mode).
Despite being in the game folder, that program will be executed in 1.50 kernel, so if even 3.02
kernel is destroyed, that program can be run.
Wait so if you try to upgrade to custom firmware you may brick your PSP because your flashing your files and stuff right? Then can’t Devhook brick your PSP since you flash files?
No It cant brick your psp. Cause it flashes it in 1 sec. Security checks are involved, so there’s no possibility to brick at all.

Hey guys with 3.03 OE-C, I’m currently creating the dxar and it’s seems to be taking a little long. How long did it take you to create the DXAR? It’s been about 40 mins and it’s “Extracting and packing 3.03 firmware…”

Anybody knows how to get CWcheat running under 3.03oe-c? In 3.03oe-b it was possible to enable plugins for cwcheat but that has been removed in 3.03oe-c

“Cannot open file!” means that either you renamed the files wrong, or you put them in the wrong folder.
Make sure you name the files 150.PBP for v1.5 and 303.PBP for v3.03 and put them in the “oeupdmaker” folder. That´s it!

the new version uses a different way of converting your PSX games. Anything converted on this popstation will not work in older custom firmwares

it seems to be a lil laggier than B, as in when i select the memstick under game it takes a sec to list and then it takes another sec to load the BGs for each iso when i scroll over them. Any1 else got this problem?
actually i rebooted the PSP and its not really noticably different then B anymore
3.03 OE-C works fine (didn’t try PSX). Excelent 333mhz XMB/Web support! I just hope Dark Alex improves 4th brightness level and in-xmb speed change! BTW Alex, can’t you add an extra version just with English, jap, spanish and portuguese to save space and include a built-in PSPlayer MT + PDF reader + File Manager?

That’s the same dude, just put that in GAME folder if you’re on 1.50, but if you’re firmware is 2.71 SE or 3.03 OE or 3.02 OE, put it in GAME150 folder.

iupdated my psp from 3.03 OE-B and everything works fine, but when i updated my wife’s psp from 2.71 SE”, it seems fine, all the way down to the prompt to manually restart teh machine, then somthing horible struck… the machine was bricked! it switched on, green light, blank black screen adn after 10-15 sec it switch off… hold R to restart does not bring up recovery menu either… can someone confirm that its well adn truely BRICKED??

im new to this cfw and had 1.5 since i brought the psp and been using DH since. today i used the auto installer and it was quick and easy and now running OE-C. i only got this cause i found out i didnt have to run extra step(run DH) to play iso. downside to DH was i had to power down and restart dh to change duo, so with this if im running this fw and want to play diff game on another card do i have to power down the psp and change cards or can i put it to sleep and change cards or changing while in sleep mess the card up?

they are there to make sure you have the made or obtained the correct dxar file which you flash to your psp’s memory
Here is the files I use to update both my psp’s.
I have uploaded them to rapidshare so you should be able to just extract and run.
Here is the instructions for my zip. There from the official release, but its all you need to do.
Copy 303oeflasher and 303oeflasher% from my zip to /PSP/GAME (1.50) or to /PSP/GAME150 (2.71 SE, 3.0X OE).
Execute the flasher from the game->memory card, and follow the instructions.
PLEASE REMEMBER AS WITH THE OFFICIAL RELEASE, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
DON’T BLAME ME IF YOU BRICK.

As far as I remember with these upgrades, you need to create the dxar file yourself on YOUR OWN psp. I may be wrong, but I wouldn’t trust a dxar I didn’t create myself.
Just read the readme, it’s not hard.

I used the same dxar on both my psp’s with different boards one being a t82. + if the dxar file was different the checksum which is released in the official readme would be different. and thus is the correct file in my download.

For EYEMAPIERATE.
Rename the 1.50pbp and 3.03pbp to 150.PBP and 303.PBP Now after you rename them, copy both renamed PBP files to OE-C UPDATE Maker.
For WEEEEE
Go to Recovery Menu by manually restarting your PSP-holding the power until it shuts off. Then hold down R button and power on your PSP. Once your in the Recovery Menu go to Configuration and press “X”
Then you’ll see “Use NO-UMD” this setting should be disabled. After that, just exit and make sure that your ISO/CSO files goes to the ISO Folder.
I hope this will help both of you.
Oh and one last thing… When your In the Recovery Menu>Configuration, make SURE that the “Game folder homebrew” is currently at 1.50 Kernel.

3.03 OE-C is a full install, meaning you don’t have to be on any custom firmware version to do that.
This will work on 1.50,2.71 SE-A,SE-B,SE-C, 3.02 OE-A, OE-B, 3.03 OE-A, and OE-B.

I have a problem thats pissing me off. I am trying to update to OE-C, but when I try I get the “cannot read file” problem. I have both 1.50 and 3.03 updates in the oeupdmaker folder which is placed in the game150 folder. they are named 150.pbp and 303.pbp. and it still doesn’t work. Can someone please help me with this? or give me the dxar file so I can update? Please.
Do you have windows set up to hide file extensions?
if you do, your files are named 150.pbp.pbp and 303.pbp.pbp try renaming them to just 150 and 303
since you have them in the proper folders, this is more than likely the problem.

i just created the dxar file and in the psp screen it said it was correct. before i could match it with the readme my psp exit the screen

Excellent. I got it to work!!!! but just one problem, when using a 2GB stick all is well, but when I change to a 4GB memory stick only one ISO from the ISO folder is shown.

Excellent. I got it to work!!!! but just one problem, when using a 2GB stick all is well, but when I change to a 4GB memory stick only one ISO from the ISO folder is shown.

Can I copy the files to a PSP memstick using card reader,then put it back in PSP to do all this stuff, or is PC needed? My PC (crap) doesnt see my PSP,ever,USB malfunction every time.

i installed oe-c on my psp the other day and now when i go to recovery mode the run program at /psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp doesn’t work can some one help me out???
get the 3.2OE-A auto installer and install the file to reture to 1.5 and the go to the psp/game

OK, newbie dumb question out of the way, sorted it and the answer was Yes. Next up, 1.5 extraction was done in seconds, 303 was still stuck 65 minutes later, not progressing. Switched off PSP,Formatted card, recopied files over started again and 1.5 and 303 were completed in less than 5 minutes.
i guess your what we call in Trinidad an I-D-I-O-T .so up yours and you should have formated before reinstalling anyway dumbie.
FORMAT YOUR MEMORY CARD BEFORE YOU START. I, like many others here, sat for ages watching the 303 DXAR stage doing SOD ALL, for ages and wondering what was up with it, The format sorted it instantly. Job finished 5 minutes after, whole thing from start to finish is less than ten to 15 minutes. So if nothing else, FORMAT before you start, save yourself a long wait for nothing.
Has anyone gotten Parasite Eve II to work. I get to the SCEA screen and it stops working. I can still exit to the XMB to it does not lock up.

Hi, require some help, now on 3.02OE-B. Put all the files in the /PSP/GAME150 folder. But when i run the Updater, it says Cannot Find file for 150.PBP

All done using a card reader as my PSP will not connect to a PC. A bit long winded, but every step taken care of in greater detail.
instructions here are written for 2.71SE, 3.02 OE (for 1.50 users, all reference to GAME150 should be changed to GAME, the GAME150 is not required for 1.50 users).
Download 303oe_c files
Download EBOOT_1.50 file
Download PSP_303_update file
Unpack/Rar files to a folder you can find easily
Remove UMD from PSP (not essential, but saves any autoboot issues)
Format memory card (Via PSP Menu)
Check you have a GAME150 folder in the PSP folder of your memory stick, if not, create one.
Go to the files you downloaded
Open the EBOOT_1.50 folder and rename the eboot file to 150.PBP (this only applies if the file is named EBOOT.PBP, if yours lacks the PBP extension, rename it to 150, it is still a PBP file, but your PC isn’t showing file extensions). Once done, right click on the 150.PBP file and select copy.
Open the PSP_303_update folde
