BLUEKVM: Java for the PSP

greg | January 22, 2007

Over in the Google Groups you’ll find java4psp — a group devoted to PSP Java Development!

BLUEKVM is the current project:

A port of the J2ME technology’s Kilobyte Virtual Machine (KVM). The KVM core libraries, virtual machine features, security, input/output, and networking is defined by the Connected Limited Device Configuration, version 1.1.

Provided is a BLUEKVM demo demonstrating sample Java code on the PSP. Check out the README.txt for details on running and building sample Java apps.

Good news! Now, where is DickyDick?!

Download: BLUEKVM (samples included)

y dont u just try it out?
and just use ur pc for limewire

Comment by Coasterfreak212
2007-01-23 00:42:27

I am gonna try it out… once my psp is charged! I lost the power adapter and I’m too lazy to buy a new one. Waiting ’till it magically appears. But seriously, Limewire on psp would be so awesome. Being able to download music straight to the psp without a computer would be cool. If every answer that had to do with being able to do something on the psp was answered with “just use your pc” then the psp wouldn’t be as cool. “Why don’t you use you pc to browse the web instead of the psp” “… watch a movie on your pc instead of a pc” “… listen to music…” get my drift?

Limewire will destroy your psp it is normally infected with trojans

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Comment by Coasterfreak212
2007-01-23 22:57:07

Yes, cause trojans aim for attacking psps. Especially since the psp is written in a different programing language. And the only known threat to the psp is writing to the flash. Unless the lime wire file itself was a “trpjan” that wrote to the flash, I’m pretty sure the psp would be fine!

Im not sure about the games, but I fitt-ed 15 PSP games on to the 4gb stick, all compressed CSO. Even had another 20 GBA games to play also. I bought mines from http://www.newegg.com for $100(free shipping at that time), and im still waiting for the $20 rebate though.

And If I’m not mistaken, PIMP Streamer already does this. Ironically, the creator is DickyDick. The guy who invented PeeJay. His pimpware.org is gone too! Wonder where he went?

Would this be able to use an irc java client?

Oh and to the person who wanted to know if this would play youtube vids… Just save the vids with keepvid then get a program called Replay Converter to convert the vids to psp playable videos.

id only use limewire if i had two computers, one to be good, other to download stuff with

i do like the idea of Java on the psp though
its another step forward to making the PSP into the ulitmate portable device
about the only thing that it cant do is be used as a Cell Phone (not yet anyway, but it has all the things needed for it- mic/headphone input is already there, and the number/keypad input is there too
it’d need something like the GPS receiver for that to get any headway though

lol runescape…
I used to play that. I think im gonna quit now.
If you really want to play runescape from psp get PSPVNC or Portable VNC (same thing).
It’s hard to set up if you don’t have a guide, so look for one on google.
Yes, I did play runescape on the PSP a few times.
I am getting WoW soon, Only thing is, I’m not so sure my crappy computer(XP pro, 400mb RAM, 800mhz, 90gb HDD, Pentium 3) would run it very well. It didn’t run NeverWinterNights Gold when I tried that. WAY to laggy…
I heard WoW was actually able to run with only 256mb RAM…
Still, Thats the problem with runescape on psp, not enough RAM. Maybe if someone would enhance a psp with 1gb RAM (ROFL!) Then we could do it. And also 1ghz cpu. And a high powered fan… (dont want your psp to explode! :))

WinMX all the way!!!! Limewire is a resource hog. I hate it!!!! Now back to the subject of Java on the PSP

Comment by Coasterfreak212
2007-01-24 00:35:00

Well, it’s a resource hog because it’s java, if you notice, most java apps take up a lot of resorces. And I apologize for bringing up limewire in the first place, didn’t know there were so many haters. But psp and java, a new frontier for programing!… now what?

theres alot of java programmers out there, more than there are psp programmers, and im sure it wouldnt take a whole lot of work to port those things to a java-enabled psp
