Map This! v0.461S Beta

greg | January 19, 2007

Deniska’s latest Map This! beta now includes support for the official Sony GPS receiver. It unfortunately removes support for other generic receivers at the moment. Also disabled are GPS data re-play & WiFi download features, but hey! It’s beta… what can ya do?

Sony GPS Map This! Screenshot

New features:

  • GPS-290 support (dhaa :-)
  • GPS info screen with satellite data
  • Screen rotation in map mode
  • Trip reset option added to menu. Trip data does not get reset when you switch to map mode.
  • Fixed a bug in TRACK UP mode. (should not switch the mode when approaching to map’s boundaries.
  • added new variable to config.txt: INITLOCATION=1
It should accept values 0,1,2 which may affect the initial satellite lookup algorithm

It’s been tested on 3.03 OE-B but may function under older custom firmwares too.

  1. Copy mapViewer folder in to /PSP/GAME303/
  2. Put usbacc.prx & usbgps.prx in MapViewer folder. Note that prx files are not supplied with this distribution. I tested with usbacc.prx from 2.71 FW distribution and usbgps.prx bundled with Maplus software. You can try using usbgps.prx from 2.71 FW, but it seems to have a problem reporting negative longitude; so if you are in Europe and Asia it may work for you… (the 3.03 FW usbgsp.prx does not seem to work for me)
  3. Generate a map for your area with gmdl tool and copy it inside the maps folder.
  4. Attach the usb gps-290 accessory and you should be good to go…

Fantastic work Deniska!

You dumbfucks, the GPS unit itself supports EVERY FUCKING SPOT on earth, it uses all the navigation satellites around earth, god dammit it’s only about the map…

And google maps has all regions covered, the whole europe - US - asia - everything what has a city…

Doesn’t the official unit come with maps? I thought this homebrew was for 3rd party gps receivers cause they didn’t come with software? The software that comes with the gps (sony) sucks nuts? Any links, cheers.

Sidenote, i’ve got a TomTom for my car, any way of uploading the map data off the sd card into this, so that we can have speech prompting and much more detail, TomTom maps own. Sorry if that a dumbass question.

For your information… Utilizing the DECRYPTED usbgps.prx from 3.03 firmware works, and gets MUCH better GPS performance. Team Create and Destroy’s psardumper should get the appropriate file for you. usbacc.prx from 2.71 should work fine.

Thanks to nicinico for this information!!!

So ok…now lets just say i get a Jap GPS for the psp and use this software i will get maps from my city (AU). The GPS unit should work anywhere, but by just using this software (not the one that comes with it) the hole system will work anywhere right?

So If we decided to order the Japanese USB-GPS, would we still be able to run this program and have it in english?

I’m having the hardest time digging up any form of detailed specs on the PSP GPS290.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/266/GPS_s962_screen.jpg

The price is tasty, ~$100 local for a GPS unit with mapping capabilities thanks to MapThis! Yum Yum.

But my greatest concern are those two little pins flanking the USB plug, I fear that they will play a vital part in the GPS’s functioning like say powering it. Because I hoping to use a USB extension cable so I can leave my precious PSP in the relative safety of my bag and just have the antenna outside wrapped in a plastic bag and cloth tape. So I can log my cycling trips and come up with nice maps for my local cycling club’s trail FAQ.

Sighhhh..

How are you going to keep the psp in your bag and view it at the same time? And where do we get the .prx files?!?!?!?

where do you get the .prx files from and what programs are you using to generate the maps???

Hi, did anyone get the Map This! working yet? I am using 3.10OE-A FW now, and I copied the mapviewer into the Game310 folder, also the both .prx files, I dumped them from 310 eboot.pbp. But I always stuck at the loading map! can not figure it out why. Any helps? Tks
