PSP Installer v0.1

greg | January 17, 2007

ADePSP, author of many great homebrews (Pimp My Garage, Deal or No Deal, Screen\Video Capture Module — just to name a few), has released a very basic app which makes it easy for noobs to quickly install homebrew onto their PSP.

It’s actually intended for developers to package along with their homebrew app/game for ease of installation; include the ‘install.exe’ executable with your release, and providing the files belonging on the memory stick are under MS_ROOT, you’re good to go!

PSP Installer v0.1 Screenshot

The PSP Installer is a very simple app that will copy files and folders onto a user’s PSP. Simply place the data you want to be copied to the PSP into the MS_ROOT folder and distribute with the Install.exe.

The program will automatically detect the PSP (when connected) so all the user will need to do is click the Install button.

The background image that appears on the installer is simply a file called pic.jpg which you can customize to whatever you like.

If you include a Readme.txt file in the same folder as the Install.exe program it will be displayed when the install is complete.

This is a very simple addition that can only copy files and folders. The next release will be able to edit text files on the PSP and a lot more. I thought I’d release it anyway.

  1. fw says:

wat firmware is it compatible with? 1.5 and oe-b users dont have the same folders…

  2. ADePSP says:

You would need to either include all the files for both firmwares at the moment or have two copies… Sorry, it’s a very basic first version…

  3. lynx says:

    install-o-tron?

  4. ADePSP says:

Only if you have WiFi an the homebrew you want is on their site…?

  5. gaLLa says:

    senseless noob shit xD

    • MickMog says:

what gaLLa means is , “wish i could code..but i cant so ill slate aDePSP….cos i KNOW how to copy files to my psp”
cos u is a clever bunny arent u gaLLa?
senseless noob shit describes u well gaLLa, well done!

  6. MickMog says:

keep at it aDePSP, nowts gr8 from the beginning, heres my feedback. maybe its possible, maybe not?
    1. i reckon a feature to rename mp4 correctly to the right directory, i had major probs tryin to get avc to play using PSDP video manager to transfer avc( it put em in wrong folder)
    2. some sorta visual GUI so noobs can just drag n drop into the window, if its ISO or CSO theres only one place for it anyhow, same as eboot, mp3 & vids…file ext could determine the location. (the GUI would defeat the object of a simple exe but noobs do complain rather than feed back as u can see above ;-) (no offence to the above but pretty shady feedback there)
    3. add a shortcut to devhook flash folder as devhooks emulation is becoming a regular tester for firmware hacks
look forward to chekin the update

  7. ADePSP says:

Thanks for the feedback… This is really intended for developers… Instead of making an app, sticking it in a folder in a zip with some manual instructions on how to install it they just include the Install.exe in the zip too and n00bs can just run that rather than getting confused about where the root of the PSP is and where to put things etc…

You can get installers to do this but I made the front end so simple and the detecting when the PSP is connected and which drive it is is not a feature of most commercial installers…

  8. kittyliter008 says:

    lol this is kinda pointless

  9. silky_z says:

    uhh thanks?

good idea, just a little pointless

  10. the dude says:

Create a packege in a more simple way is not that bad in my opinion.

  11. cid420420 says:

you guys need to stop being so mean yes to you his app may be pointless but to alot of the noob\older and not so tech savy people this can be a great help i applaude you for putting forth the effort to try and help out the scene instead of just being critical of other peoples efforts

  12. AndyAldrich says:

This app could be used by coders making extensions or modifications to the 1.50 XMB or any of DAX’s custom firmwares. People always complain about bricks and quite often it’s because they don’t follow readme.txt files to the letter and hopefully should remove some of the worries of meddling with flash0.

If you don’t like it then don’t download it, simple as that.

  13. ßyron™ says:

good work!! now all the noobs can do it themselvs not commin over here “dude show me again” … ive done 8PSPs for 6 people i will include it for all … thanx again

  14. scoo64 says:

so how do you install it????…. (jk)

    simple but effective, well done!
    keep up the good work!

  15. pitchfork says:

I think it is a great idea. There is no harm in making things more user friendly. Keep up the good work.

  16. hotgirl says:

    hi all :)

  17. IDunnomynick says:

Looking to do a little psp development for the community and this little app looked like JUST the thing need to distribue some work. PSP connection detection and file placement = perfect for the noobs out there.

Psp connection detection = works a-ok!

Copying anything that’s in the MS_ROOT folder = no go. Doesn’t copy anything, no usb file transfer activity, no nada.

Know this app may not have gotten the attention it deserves, but perhaps a bug fix on this little bug?

Thanx for your time! Hope to see an update for this issue!

  18. lightcloud007 says:

pointless is right lots of programs in 1 great but dosent help at all

  19. revx says:

i am running 2.71 then HEN-D can i use this app?

    • PspFrEaKz says:

downgrade your psp la. fw1.50 is a GOD to all psp users. now still have dark alex custom firmware.. and its great !!!!!!

  20. Erik says:

If I am unsure of what PSP model I have, can I run this program to find out WITHOUT it changing anything on my PSP?
I bought my PSP in Japan in December and it came with firmware 2.81.

  21. Daniel says:

Another useless app to waste time that could be spent making more downgraders….(sigh)

    • maniac says:

another useless guy (Daniel) spending time writing useless comments that could be used to making his OWN downgrader

STFU, Ass Hole! MAKE UR OWN DOWNGRADER IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT!!!

  22. kittyliter008 says:

but, if you are smart enough to downgrade, how would you not know how to put files on?

  23. PspFrEaKz says:

Owsome !!!this is a good program for the psp noobz. those who do not know how to iinstall homebrews into psp can use this program. its simple and easy to use.

    GREAT!!!

    • Daniel says:

If people are that stupid they shouldn’t be alive.

      • MickMog says:

funny to see a man plan his own funeral.
hope your psp dies a death too daniel, think this is the 10th shitty comment uve made about “an app NOT bein a downgrader”
thats bad karma an hope it gets repaid when u DO get your beloved downgrader ;-)

  24. fOmey says:

This program is stupid… lazy people should be hung.

Just avoiding doing things the “hard” way.

  25. funnybutrandom says:
