An Improved 2.80 Downgrader

The Noobz have released a new and improved version of Dark_AleX’s TA-082 2.71 downgrader. In addition to supplying a safe and simple method to downgrade your 2.80 [to 1.50] hand held, Homebrew Enabler Revision D (HEN-D) has been ported to the 2.80 platform — in case you don’t care to take the risk that comes with downgrading.
The quoted advantages:
* safety - this downgrader has plenty of safety checks in place to try to avoid accidental bricks (but read the warning below)
* convenience - because this downgrader works with an official firmware EBOOT.PBP file, and includes the TA-082 idstorage changer and HEN files, you don’t need any other files (except for a v1.5 update EBOOT) to perform the downgrade. No more finding a v1.5 owner to get dumpfiles!
* latest TA-082/086 support - the bundled TA-082 registry fixer includes the latest fixes to make sure that USBHost support won’t be messed up.
Here’s how to use it:
- Install HEN-D (see the readme)
- Confirm HEN-D is working, i.e.) run the included cube demo.
- If you have a TA-082 or TA-086 PSP, run the “TA082 IdStorage Changer”, via HEN, to patch your registry before downgrading.
- Download the 1.5 update EBOOT, rename to UPDATE.PBP, and copy it to the ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE on your memory stick
- Launch “PSP Update ver X.YZ” program via HEN-D, and follow the instructions.

I had a reason for upgrading when I did, and whats more I don’t need a downgrader as I have one PSP that runs 3.03 OE but I would still like to downgrade my 2.82 PSP so I can run 3.03 OE on it as well.

I wouldn’t chance it because in order to downgrade a TA-082 some special stuff has to be written first. In any case there has been a 2.80 downgrader for non ta-082 for ages now so you have no excuse to be still using 2.80

Well i can confirm that this downgrader work perfect for a TA-082. I have sucessfully downgrader my TA-082.

I just finished downgrading my 2.80 to 1.50. At first, I wasn’t sure whether I had a TA-082 or not, but in any case, run the patcher. It only checks if you have it and then patches it.
Good thing I never upgraded since I bought it. =)

im not gunna confirm anything but im prettysure itll work on ta-079 or ta-081 cosue its motherboard allows for less risk when it comes for flashing then ta-082 which is also the reason why there are more custom firmwares for ta-081/079 motherboards
i followed the instructions and renamed the eboot to UPDATE.PBP and when i try to run - I get a “corrupt” icon
-BUT when i dont rename I see the “1.5 update” - the demo test work fine and am stuck on the last step - thanks to any help in advance- =)
Download the Improved 2.80 Downgrader, then it should work. I had the same problem, but I downloaded it, and it worked.

You have to wait until someone finds a kernel mode exploit for the newer firmwares. And since those are extremly difficult to find, and getting harder with each new firmware version. It can take one hell of a long time and a shit load of luck to find them.
Hats off to the guys who found the ones that allow us to do this stuff. Ye scare me in a crazy godlike way.

In the Homebrew Enabler installation, i copy and paste the PSP folder into my psp’s root folder. As i go in the HEN_280 folder via my psp’s photo viewer, my psp just freezes and turned off. I retry for like 20 times but its still the same thing. no blue nor red screens show up. ??? what am i doing wrong here?
put hen_280 on the root folder… dnt put it in the psp folder…
stylez. try to use the start button instead of the O button when you try to view the HEN_280. Which mean use the slide show instead of going into the folder.

I got a question first. I looked at the back of my UMD and ejected it and it says there C1003. Does this mean I’m TA-082 or what kinda of TA???
i have the same problem as Stylez. After copying the folder PSP inside MS_Root to my formatted 1GB Duo Stick and run the photo using O or Start. I didnt see any blue or red signs. I’ve tried like more than 20x both O and start nothing happens.
But i got4 out of 20 attempts that PSP just freeze and i waited like 10mins and nothing happens. i tried power off or sleep mode but its just frozen. So i remove the battery and put it back and a relief its back. So i continue with the step and still nothing. What do you think is wrong?

I dont know whats XMB means. But when you say open the photo viewer. You go to photo section (right side of settings and left side of Music) then you will see there the folder Hen_280. Then you launch it either pressing O or start.
4 guys havin prob with hend..just hard reset d psp ( switch off nd take batt out), after dat format d mem stick nd load hend nd then go 2 photo viewer wait 4 5 sec nd select hend…it wil work..!
tried to hard reset/format several times but it doesnt work for me. im on my 15 try aprox and it just freezes when trying to load hend. i used another version of HEND before so i guess that might be causing the prob. I wonder if its safe to use the older HEND version to load up the rest of these files? any advice would be appreciated.

Hi guys im back, anybody can answer my previous question regarding what kind of TA do i have. I tried it again after waking up…. still no avail. Tried your suggestion icerman but still the same. I dont know maybe im a different TA or what, i dont know what does C1003 means on the back of my PSP.
To those people who upgraded to 2.81+ and above pls guys stop saying nonsense words and be patient. I bought my PSP way back and it was 2.6… i was fooled by the salesman that i have to upgrade firmware so i can play newer UMD. thus i got 2.8 and i was late knowing that there was a 2.71 downgrader… now theres a 2.80 downgrade so guys pls wait no need to say harsh words on the genius hackers….

Yes it work the HEN…. I havent tried yet using the downgrade cos im so happy now that the hend work.
heres how what i did…. I go to Photo then press O then you will see HEN_280 folder, then i pressed start. then it goes all white and you can see the memory led light is lighting saying its busy. Then i let it run then after i guess 15mins of loading. i thought it was frozen again i remove the batt and place it back after 1 min turned it on… and tried again the same procedure after pressing start it turned into blue screen and it restarted itself. I was happy when i saw the blue screen… I turned it on again and tried running the Cube sample and Polyphonic sample by shrine and it all worked.
I think we should be patient during HEN. It tries to load itself to its XMB or flash memory or somethin.
Now Im trying to do step 2 using 280downgrader wish me luck guys.

excues my noob question: but does anybody know the firmwares that come on brand new psp’s? like, i used to know that little letter indicator on the serial # sticker indicated what firmware the system is, but after like letter D i lost track. I just wanna know if i went out right now to buy a psp, am i gonna get 2.8 or lower? or am i gonna get something more current?

well to know the firmware, ask the sales lady to check out first the PSP, then go directly to System Settings then System Information. There you will see its firmware. I dont know about sticker.
well i know that! but at what store will let you crack open a new box, pop in the battery and boot it up just to check it out? I know large retailers like Best Buy, or even Wal-mart wont do it. Even game stores like EB or GS wont.
BTW, the serial # sticker has a letter on it and that indicates the firmware. at first, A = 1.5, B = 1.7, etc.

I got to step #4 and when i tried to open run the 1.5 UPDATE.PBP, it is corrupted data. Please help, I’ve been trying to get this to work for awhile.
Here’s what i did. After getting the blue screen.
Before copying the folder PSP (ta82downgrader) to my Duostick. Rename EBOOT.pbp (1.5 Firmware Eboot) to Update.pbp then copy update.pbp to PSP\Game\Update (ta82downgrader folder). Then copy the PSP folder (ta82downgrader) to Duostick and replace the PSP folder (duostick). Then run the TA082 IdStorage Changer (under GAME > Memory Stick)
and thats it wait for a few mins it will be converted to 1.5 ^_^

Hi guys! Can anyone confirm that the USBHosts is working with this downgrader.
I have tried this on my TA-082 but the USBHosts fuction didn’t work. Please note that this was my 3rd downgrade with my PSP - 1st using the 2.71 to 1.5, 2nd using the older 2.80 to 2.71 downdater. Since my PSP had it’s idstorage changed already on my 1st downdate, this was never repeated on both of my 2nd and 3rd downdate. If anyone who used this downdater for the first time and the USBHosts app is confirmed working, does it mean that it is during the changing of the idstorage that the registry fixes are applied so as not to mess up the USBHosts app? Any clarification is hioghly appreciated. TIA!
Using USB Connection yes…. it works, and it didnt brick my 2.80 TA-082 PSP… I know theres a different downgrader for 2.71. By Dark Alex also. If your afraid then dont do it. Like they say it takes guts if you want to achieve something. Im a newbie in all this downgrading stuffs. I just followed the instructions and it worked…. and it didnt brick my PSP. JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and TRY UNDERSTANDING IT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. And like they said this is safe because they said that it loads on memory or something so it wont BRICK your PSP.
@newbie: My USB connection is working also. What I mean was the USBHosts app wherein you can play games from your PC instead from your memstick. TY!

Seriously, I can’t load the HEN application.. It just freezes, I’ve tried like 40+ times now. And sometimes, when I press the buttons fast to run the file, it shows a picture of a chicken ;_; nothing else, someone help me please :(
