USB Special System Storage 1.00

greg | January 13, 2007

BOOSTER is back like a vertebrate with a new creation, USB Special System Storage. Essentially it allows you to directly mount PSP system data and/or system devices (i.e. UMD drive) as a USB storage device on your PC.

Currently it supports:

  1. UMD ISO9660 image.
  2. System memory and some registers.
  3. lflash(NANDflashROM) parition image.
  4. lflash(NANDflashROM) direct. (FAT12 direct file access)

It is mounted as read-only except in normal mode. So rest assure flashROM and system data is safely protected in case of accidental mouse clicks. ;)

It is also recommended you use UMDGen or DAEMON Tools to access the UMD files. UMDGen rules, check that out here.

Download: USB Special System Storage v1.00

Thanks for the heads up everyone!

The psp is better for homebrew, but the games are all crap. The DS has some decent games on it + it has the touch screen something that the psp does not. As for the WII i can safely say that it is the best of the others simply cos its so much fun to play the games on it. The 360 is ok but its just not getting enough good games. As for the PS3 i wish id never wasted $600 on it. Its just like the previous 2 Ps’s, looks great but the games are crap and will be for about a year until the programmers get to grips with it properly (Anybody remember the launch games for the PS1 or PS2, all about graphics and not enough gameplay, most of em you wouldnt even consider playing nowadays). Anyway Nintendo have got it right this time. Whether you buy a 360 or a PS3, buy a Wii too cos i asure you, you wont regret it.

put the program on your mem stick, run it on your psp, then your psp will show up as ‘removable drive’ E:/, F:/ etc… and the umd you have in your psp will show up as an iso!! therefore making it alot quicker to back up your games! capiche??

no, sorry. You need a hacked version of the psp to run it. 2.81 has no downgrader (yet ^_-) so you’re out of luck I’m afraid.

On that note, are there any programs you guys would love to have made? Other then downgraders for 2.81+ :p

RECOVERY MODE HAS USB SUPPORT EDIT RECOVERY MODE WITH CODE FROM THIS PROGRAM AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FLASH USING THE PC.

IT COULD BE POSSIBLE WITH RECOVERY MODE

Comment by Snarg
2007-01-14 06:15:07

Neo G you are officially retarted.
If you have a PSP with recovery mode, you can recover without this.
Lets see you use your recovery mode, with a 1.5 that bricked during an update, or a 1.51 or higher that you bricked during a up/downgrade.

In otherwords, this has NO practical use for a bricked PSP of any sort.

Maybe BOOSTER or Dark_AleX can make a program out of my idea. What my idea is, you run HEND, then run this program that if you are about to brick your PSP it quickly goes into a recovery mode to prevent the PSP from bricking. If I had this program I would be so happy. Then I wouldn’t be afraid of using the 2.71 TA-082 downgrader. Because even if my PSP were about to brick, the program would go to Recovery mode and save my PSP.

Booster now has the UMD emultion market cornered. Direct dumpin via USB means someone with a 1g MS can dump, say, WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw (1.x gigs) and then use a ripkit to make it smaller, or…or…GASP! Compress it into a .DAX file!

Booster, you’ve proven that even tho DAX’s firmwares emulate ISOs, we havent heard the last from the OTHER king of the PSP world.
Speaking of which, isn’t it funny that DAX hasnt yet implemented support for his own format, .DAX?

Thanks again BOOSTER! We all love ya. :)

Are you trying to create a fight here.
Homebrew development is working against sony and not against eachother don’t forget that.
Yes Dark_Alex Uses some of boosters code and i’m not complaing because he used it right.
U on the other hand are making a big deal out of something that isn’t very abnormal because probably did the same thing just like any other homebrew developer.

Comment by Nergar
2007-01-14 05:23:43

This is not about fighting, its about the scene. If DAX makes something and someone wants to make something better than DAX, DAX will probably wanto to stay on top of the scene. The results; psp scene grows faster and better.

If by bricked u mean the blue screen after the manual restart that keeps popping up no mater what u do… I had that happen. All I did was hold the “R” shoulder button while you turn it on, and it bought me to a menu where a recovery option can be found. If the recover file that this function calls is not on your psp. I believe u can enable usb in that menu to run directly off your compunter (if I remembered right..)

Comment by Neo G

Okay, here’s the deal:
This could be used to fix a bricked PSP (once it is installed), but this would mean that a program would be installed on the flash memory. It’s kinda like the modchip: Hold left to enter programming mode on startup. The screen is black, but you can accsess the flash memory on your PC. Just copy and paste a firmware dump on it and voila!

Comment by LtngRod
2007-01-14 10:40:30

If you would think logicaly before going out and talking like a noob you would realize this can not unbrick an already bricked psp. you would have to install this program on your psp’s flash before you brick it and have some kind of key sequence to access it. The only reason people would need it is because they bricked there psp with custom firmware. A UM wait a minute we already have an unbricker included with our custom firmware its called RECOVERY MODE. and don’t say not everyone uses custom firmware. If you bricked your psp for any other reason than custom firmware then chances are your not going to install any thing on the flash to begin with

Comment by Nergar
2007-01-14 05:36:26

if you can install tht little app in flash1 and be able to boot the psp from flash1 so you could flash your dumped FW, it would be the perfect recovery mode. i think that should be possible because if when you brick a psp flash0 is the one that gets Fed up.

OF COURSE THIS WOULDN’T UNBRICK ANY BRICKED PSP

My PC has never miscalculated memory before, it says I’m using 60.1MB of the 1.9gig leaving me with 1.84gig

Used space: 63,078,400 bytes or 60.1MB
free space: 1,982,398.464 bytes or 1.84GB
Capacity: 2,045,476,864 bytes or 1.90GB

OK so the program miscalculates the memory under windows, so what does this mean for UMD dumping, is that also flawed? I haven’t had time to check it yet, do dumped UMD’s work?

Comment by capacity sizes
2007-01-14 10:15:52

*Capacity: 2,045,476,864 bytes or 1.90GB*
That is the entire capacity of the UMD Disc.

*Used space: 63,078,400 bytes or 60.1MB*
That is how much space the game is using on the UMD Disc.

*free space: 1,982,398.464 bytes or 1.84GB*
That is how much space is UNUSED on the UMD.
i.e wasted space ;)

UMD Dumping works perfectly, The UMD dumps I got from this program were exactly the same (binary compared) as the ones I got from UMD Dax Dumper and also fastloader.

This program seems faster then the other dumpers,
A 900mb UMD took around 10 minutes to dump. Transfer speed was averaging about 1 mbyte/sec.

nope its not the UMD, I only have the demo disk and its 256MB used on the disc, I wasn’t looking at the disc I was looking at “Virtual FAT16 . intFlash & Sysmem” and in there with NO disc inserted it says 1.9gig capacity

Now we just need a program to play the umd movies
On the PC, then we could watch our umd on the tv via the tvout. That will be so nice.

I just dumped Rengoku using this program, it’s very straight-forward and it’s PERFECT for backing up your games to prevent damage, even though they say it’s hard to damage a UMD disk, it can be done (I accidently dropped a UMD disk one time and it went under my parents car and it got run over, but still useable). It’s SOOO much easier than the old method of FastLoader which required you to have a large memory stick. I tested this program with my 32MB Sony Memory Stick and loaded to the PC and tested it on ExtremeLink and it works perfectly. Just gotta have a PC or laptop attached (Since i’m a geek i always have my PSP and laptop with me)
