Custom Firmware 3.03 OE-B Released!

Dark_AleX releasing custom firmware updates like they’re going out of style! Yup, that’s right, another earth-shattering update from the man himself — 3.03 Open Edition Revision B (OE-B)!
3.03 OE-B changes:
- Patched the firmware to allow decrypted mp4-AVC videos to play at 480×272 resolution.
- pic0.png was not shown in psp isos. Fixed.
- The speed functions were not dummied after setting the speed. This could cause the few games that set the cpu speed not to run at the selected speed in the recovery menu.
- Changed the structure of the program to have more free ram in game mode. sysmemp.prx removed, systemctrl.prx splitted into systemctrl.prx and vshctrl.prx.
Note: due to the inclusion of pic0.png, the iso cache has changed slightly; as a consequence you will notice a slowdown the first time you access game menu after this update, just as if you have modified the iso folder.
Instructions regarding AVC @ 480×272, docmaker changes, and everything else is detailed inside readme.txt.
Only execute this update from 3.03 OE-A or 3.03 OE-A’ (A2)

actually there was no bricking with 3.03 at all , if u did it manually like the instructions say… running the autoinstaller that was first posted caused all those bricks..

hi, i discovered that my problem was an incorrect installation. going back to 1.5, then 30.2a, 3.03a, then this one. after that, everything was as it should be. amazing!!!!

it should be fine. just downgrade back to 1.5, then back up, following the steps correctly. also, make sure your eboots are ccorrect, have the right names, and are in the game or game150 folder.
actually that wont always work, happened to mine i went back to 1.5 up to 2.0 back down to 1.5 cause someone told me 2.0 cleans ur flash if anythings messed up on it then all the way back up to 3.02 and i was still gettting the 800000004 error.
‘do this psp/game/scusxxxxx/eboot.pbp” i had not tried that so maybe this was the cause? my popstation named the folder automatically to something very differnet than this.

If only I had the guts to downgrade my 2.71 TA-082 PSP to 1.5. Tehn I could upgrade to Dark_AleX’s custom firmwares.
Dont worry mate, the ta-082 downgrade works fine and i was a total newbie and it worked ok for me and I have upgraded and downgraded 4 times since to try different things.
i second that, i was very hesitant about downgrading ta-82 mobo as well however i readfrom dax’s post taht it’s safe so i took his word for it.

no, you dont have to. you can skip A2, but upgrade from 3.02 to 3.03OEA first, then you’ll be up to date.

Has anyone gotten the DocMaker to work? I’ve made a few png images and pass the right commands. But, When you try to view it on the PSP under the PSx Game menu all it says is there is no manual.
N/M I got it to work. Images made have to be 480×272 I ReSized them and now the DOCUMENT.DAT Made works.
use this so when you make the eboot you can make the doc at the same time with all the info allready there. it will even resize the images.

danky, the updates with each release for the PSX emulator come from $ony, so if you have 3.03a, 3.03a’ or 3.03b you have the same PSX emulator in each.
3.04 will more than likely include some PSX emulator updates from sony, just as 3.03 did over 3.02.
Even so they don’t have FFVII as an actual ported game yet so the code they use would do jack to any games except the ones on the PS3.

i made a “recovery” folder in “game” and put the 1.50 eboot in it but when i tried to run it in recovery mode my psp just shut off. do i hav to rename it or extract sumthing from it or wut?
your recovery folder needs the decryptprx.prx , and EBOOT.PBP and extprx.pbp , libpsardumper. prx as wellas the 1.50EBOOT
The first thing I tried was to see if the FFVII battle swirl was fixed and sadly its not.
I used to get the battle swirl, but I compressed the iso and now I don’t. So I figure thats the cost for more free space.

Is it normal that 480×272 AVC’s are only viewed correctly in “full screen” mode?
(in normal mode they are displayed too narrow).
I’m wondering if the original pixel content is displayed without any resizing/blurring in full-screen mode. At least from a quick look I couldn’t see any difference between PMPMOD-AVC and the vsh video-player yet.
has someone else made observations in this area?
P.S.: It seems that wide-screen encodes (e.g. 480×224) are not supported by the vsh-player so the only options is hard-encoding black borders, is it?

Thats all full instructions STEP BY STEP for your psp. Read the 2nd Section for yours. I pointed this to my newbie friend and he followed it, and it worked for him in 30mins. (forreal he was a total complete noob). make sure u got FoxIt Reader or Adobe acrobat reader to open the PDF. (and winrar to open the downloaded file.)

I was very hesitant with my 1.5 but silent hill was calling to me so finally did it and it works perfectly so for all those of u still hesitant come and join the darkside.
what is a good program that will convert movies into mp4 avc (480×272).
Use 3GP Converter, google search it and find a link that has the word “calcium” in it. Its a japanese website and you wont be able to read anything but just find the download button and then after you run setup.exe theres a drop down box for english. In setup select “Mp4 (PSP) Direct Renamed” or something like that…. then its just simple drag and drop. BEST app ever!

WOW the high res is very good… its much better then the highest setting b4 this one was unlocked
Playstation 1 games stoped loading after a 3.03 OE-A was updated to OE-B… I fixed this problem by using the recovery to downgrade back to 1.5…Then flashed back to 3.03 OE-A, then used the OE-A’ update, then finished off with the OE-B update… Now my problem is solved. Playstation 1 games now work…. This may come in handy for any of you how have this problem after upgrading to OE-B without updating to OE-A’ first.
Nice update but unfortunatly now i’m forced to downgrade back to 1.5, format my ms and after that I can go up to 303OEB. Wanna know why. My psp has lost all sence. Version numbers in japannese and stuff like that.

I´ve got a ceramic white japanese PSP, and I upgraded from OEA´ to OEB 100% successfully.
Very strange? Did you just simply try resetting your psp back to factory settings using the menus? Maybe your PSP settings in flash1 have been corrupted and it thinks its running in a different language?

dude no-umd mode works for me i dont know what you’re doing wrong but it works on my psp now i dont know about all the games but the ones that test works,only games that dont works in no-umd mode are the EASPOTS games you have to use a umd for them to work.

this so wierd… i had to downgrade(RECOVERY) from 3.03 OE-B.. to 1.50 …(cause my PSX werent workign anymore).. then all the sudden while i was Upgrading the PSP from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-A … the USB loading thing was doing Blue squares.. really wierd… then while it finished the Process .. the PSP menu had the same Blue Square Glitches.. i had to smach my PSP to actually get those blue squares off.. cuase everytime i turned it up again it was still tehre the Blue Squares.. but yeah i got to made it disappear .. and well successully went back to 3.02 OE-A… – 3.02 OE-B … – 3.03 OE-A … -3.03 OE-B
Anybody had the same Blue square glitches as me… (when downgrading(RECOVERY) back to 1.50 from 3.03 OE-B ????) well anyways yeah now my PSX games are back Working 100%

Hold down the R button while you start your PSP, this will bring you to the revocery menu.
is there any discernible difference between this and oe-a’? all i am hearing is that psx games no longer work and people are having problems with the firmware conflicting with other things so that they have to downgrade back to 1.50 and format then re-upgrade twice in order to get this to work…if its all the same, i’ll stick with oe-a’
psone games still work a treat upgraded ok from 3.03 oe a2 with no problems ,i made sure i had a real sony memory stick and formatted.
i cant beleive the dark_alex sucks guy is slagging off the firmware and that there is no downgrader fo 3.xx ,1 dark alex is a very clever bloke ,2 i dont think that guy can code like dark alex and 3 if its causing that much of a problem in he,s life that he has to come on here and make nasty statments then why dont he either sell hes psp and then buy a 1.50 off ebay or just buy a spare that he can upgrade . ive seen loads of 2nd hand psp that are still 2.60 firmware.

my psp with broken umd drive is 2.71 oec for the best no-umd compatibility and my other psp is 3.02b for psx. that is good enuf for me. i got scared off upgrading when GtA no longer worked with 3.02noumd.

Nice hardware Sony, shame about the software – it’s saying something when people would rather play old 8 bit and 16 bit titles rather than your latest load of shit developed by 25 strong dev teams, and which go in the ‘used’ bin at GAME at half-price after 2 weeks.
Wake up you stupid bastards, make some good games, get back to small development teams, take some risks and sell the games for £15 instead of trying to scalp £30+ from people.
I used to by all Sony hardware – CDplayers/TVs as they used to make really good stuff but not now.

Just create an ISO folder on the root of your memory stick, place your ISOs in it and run them.
RELICWARD, recovery mode enables u to return to 1.50 in literally 2 minutes….i run my 1.50 recovery files whenever i see a fw 1.5 only type app i fancy a look at. specially the way these easy install updates are…..it takes less than 5 mins to upgrade to 3.03 OE-B.

i can’t see them in xmb, prehaps it is because they are dax iso’s. do they need to be a certain format. so in 3.03oe-b do u need to use dev hook or dax iso?

i upgraded to 3.03 oe b and i can connect to the internet
but when i tried to play soccom 2 online it says download upgrade 8mb needed to download and 8mb needed to install.
i want to know what is this upgrade and has anyone else done this.
because i am not sure if this is a official sony upgrade or just something needed to play online
please reply and tell me if i should download this upgrade and still have 3.03 oeb on my psp

you need to download the update for socom to play on line stupid have you never played any game online. 3.03OE-b is unupdate for the custom firmware made by the one and only dark alex. so if you wanna play socom on line down load “there” update for socom you will still be using 3.03OE-b.

Has anyone else discovered that they now have problems with some video? non-AVC encoded video now seems to slowly go out of sync, as does half the stuff I downloaded from Google video.
Is there something I’m missing, or some sort of fix for this OTHER than re-encoding all of it?
Sony does suck. They dont listen to their customers, or deliver what they want. Of course they make great software and hardware, but they all have limitations. I have to admit, they did make a psx emu, but you had to rebuy the games.

I’ve a failure instalation method on this that made my PSP couldnt load the Main menu Appearance at all (no SCE logo, No Main Menu,nothin’. Just have the Power of the PSP Light On).

you have to put the 1.5 UPDATE.PBP inside the recovery folder in order to go back again. Try some READING, it won’t hurt you and you might get smarter.

Ive got a problem i upgraded to 3.03 oe-b and im glad about playing psx games on the psp but now i cant run homebrew it shows the gameboot then shutsdown. Im kinda a noob please help.
hey guys, im trying to recovery back to 1.5 because when i updated to 3.03oeb from 3.03oea, it wouldn’t play psx games (gave me the error). however it appears i accidentally flawed something with the installation or removed the recovery file, because when i try to recover via the R button menu, it goes blank for a while and then shuts the psp down. when i reboot, it goes into the main psp menu. is there a place i can find the recovery folder i need?

need help in kind of messed up while installing 3.03oeb and i need to go back to 1.5 using the recovery(pressing R while booting up). i am able to get into the recovery mode and when i run psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp my psp just shuts down and nothing happen. i am kind of new to this so am i doing it right? thanks..

Has anyone tested this new version with PSX games ? Going from 3.02 OE to 3.03 OE meant many psx games actually worked WORSE, does this patch change/improve PSX emulation at all ? I don’t want to patch if the emulation is going to be worse again =/

This ROCKS! Everything seems to be working great. Has anyone actually tried to flash back to 1.5? I just wanted to take it back to 1.5 before I flashed anyone elses to 3.03 OEB. What do you select in recovery mode to flash to 1.5? Adavanced – Flash pspbtcnf_updater.txt(1.50)? Is this correct? Please reply, I waiting to do it – like at this moment… TIA

it’s just a menu option in the XMB. i think it’s under system settings. wherever you can check your fw version and battery info and such.
I just upgraded my TA-082 from FW 3.03-OEA2 to 3.03-OEB. After that when I try to go into recovery console the screen goes black but if I plug power in and take it out then it comes back. I tried to downgrade back 3.03-OEA and it does the same thing when the flash starts. I have no other problems then that but I was curious if I was missing a setting or something or is there a problem with my psp.

@My_Name if you enable Skip SCE logo in the recovery mode configuration it stops the umd auto booting. I had the same prob.

can anyone (as in a dev) tell me if this will work for a finding exploits in the psp fw.
1) first get a copy of 2.80fw and 2.81fw
2)compare the sections of each fw and find the different program codes to the fw then base the exploit off of the changes made to the existing 2.81fw for a downgrader

has anyone had any experiance in unbricking psp’s how far are we on this problem i am looking into this now and a couple of ideas of mine are
1 ethernet cable with cables going to the flash chip or to a custom
built ethernet board with a usb hub connected to acces the
psp flash chip
2 and i.d.e cable converted to usb through a custom made board
3 on the psp motherboard there is a black extension socket where the
memory stick card plugs into maybe a custom made cable that plugs into this

for some reason with chrono cross by3.03 OE-B will lock sometimes when i get another character to join my party leaveing the game impossiable to further beyond that point in the game. Is there anything we can do about this?

After many disheartening attempts at installing DevHook 0.5X, I decided to take the plunge with 3.03 OE-A after many equally tempting read ups on 2.71 SE-C Dark Alex’s other prodigy.
“Hey what the hell I thought, after many months of 1.5 happiness and DevHook, now with OE-B I can play my PS1 games since I fried my big old grey PS1 and it’s controllers” ( ;-) ever tried play GT with a Dance Dance Revolution mat, it’s like speed-Twister) after many happy times with Gran Turismo 1 & 2.
# Full resolution AVC videos from the XMB… cool! Once I sort out 3GP Converter, then it’ll be time to compare it to PMP-AVC. A video player is IMO only as good as it’s compatible video converters in this our portable video age. I like 3GP for it’s speed in converting basic PSP-AVC videos. If quality’s good enough Xvid4PSP might have to hang up it’s boots.
#What I’m eagerly waiting for as well is AhMan (another fantastic PSP hacker IMO) to update IRShell for 3.03 OE-B (or newer).
I don’t know what it is but I can’t seem to log onto the IRShell website after about the same time as the earthquake in Taiwan.???

For those who their ISOS fail to start I have noticed that in some cases updating the firmware corrupts them.It can easily be fixed by deleting and reuploading….Encountered that in 4 psps so far…

Basically i updated my psp to the 3.03 OE-B but i deleted everything on my psp and forgot the file structure so now when i put a iso in the iso folder i made it wont boot and nothing else will too so can some one link me a downgrader so i can downgrade then upgrade to this version again. you dont need to downgrade, just format your MsCard from your psp and then create a folder called ISO in the MSROOT. put your isos there and thats it :D
