PrometeusPro 0.9.7B2 Demo

greg | January 8, 2007

Here’s a preview of PrometeusPro, the PSP tool that does it all for the Mac. PrometeusPro basically features all the cool stuff that comes when you donate — direct PSX cd ripping, a PBP packer/unpacker with plenty of options, the PSP preview screen, etc… The demo is crippled in such a fashion that each and every pro feature is functional; however, the application permits each to be used 3 times before you must restart. Otherwise, a donation will get you the full copy (see source link).

PrometeusPro 0.9.7B2 Demo

changelog:

v.0.9.7B2

  • After open ISO or rip CD you can force or not Game ID Number searching.
  • Fixed PBP build bug

v.0.9.7B

  • New PBP features:
    • Patch IDs: Name and Game ID number patch without extract EBOOT.PBP.
    • GetISO: You can save ISO from EBOOT.PBP (it saves the compressed one without decompressing. Maybe in a later release will do it)
    • Delete Files: App delete all Unpacked files from the folder
    • Rewritten PBP Pack function can 10 times faster build EBOOT.PBP
    • No more EBOOT_NEW.PBP, now the newly generated call EBOOT.PBP, the old one renamed to EBOOT_OLD.PBP
    • Rewrite some PSX->PSP compressor routine. Please Test it!

Thanks Dago^WATT!

umm, thats kinda rude. i paid for the thing and you know what? they could have made it so we have to keep paying for the new versions but instead I get links emailed to me with downloads for the new versions as they are made. One dollar isnt a lot of money, especially when it goes that far. I think it’s cool as shit in the way of customer service. Dago goes that extra mile to please…

I believe all Mac users should have to pay for their programs. If they are silly enough to use a Mac, they should be easy prey for developers to charge them since they think their s**t dont stink they will probably gladly pay!!! Windows/Linux for life baby!

Oh wait… There aren’t any.

Anyway, I just got a mail from wattks that 0.9.8B is out now. Talk about update crazy! ^___^

Funny thing is, I am a Mac owner/user and I’m happier just using a shell script that calls DAX’s popstation directly. Then again, I also have that script convert background and save data images to the correct size and format through ImageMagick’s convert utility.

All that said? What you’re paying for — if you pay — is the UI. It’s a moderately common practice in the Mac community to work up commercial UIs for free/open source command line tools. See also: ffmpegX. And FWIW, the built-in disc ripper is a nice feature. None of the popstation UIs for Windows do that. Then again, my script does (via cdrdao) :).

YMMV.

Comment by everyone
2007-01-09 00:49:50

yeah so? who cares about your shell script abilities? if Dago got discouraged and left the scene because of such comments, we’d all be stuck doing annoying crap like that. But I believe there are people in this world who really hate the idea of catering to convenience and simplicity. Some people also don’t even realise how complicated some of this stuff can be for ‘noobs’, and say things like “oh this is simple, just get the pbp unpacker and then write a simple shell script and in the third line write a GUI code that goes like this, then get the psar dumper and extract this and stand on your head” uugh. I still remember how impossible computers were to use in the 80s. now the user interfaces are nice and simple so EVERYONE can use them. just burns you up doesnt it…

if you really hate what Dago is doing and think you can do better, then make a simple UI yourself and share it with us, but dont just sit there and complain about the fact that there IS one and tell everyone to just use shell scripts. thats retarded and YOU, SIR, ARE STANDING IN THE WAY OF PROGRESS!!!

Comment by Kudou
2007-01-09 00:57:22

^^; i don’t think he was against this program….seemed more like he was stating there are alternatives, and the UI is what stands out more about this app.

yeah, if you can script its definitly more advantageous, BUT, also tedious.
using a UI IS easier for the most part for functions…scripting is more flexible though. so meh, to each your own.

but for noobz, the motto is: all for UI, and UI for all :p

2007-01-09 03:09:26

Well, I am not MAC user, I just use windows. But I think that the point is that you are paying for something nice and packed… that can be done with other not-packed programs. Yeah, it is cool to have everything on one place, but, what happens when you whant to do somethig different from what the program does? Yess, you have to use other program.
Anyway, paying just a dollar is excesive for a recompilation of FREE code. It also should be FREE. And, it should be free MAINLY for newbies.
Should that program be
significantly faster, better, or whatever; you are a “pro” and you whant to do “extrange” and “weird” things that “pros”do with your PSP, and IF you pay 1 $ (or 1000) you can have a program that allows you to fullfill all your secret dreams with Sony and the PSP, er,… well, pay as much money as you want. No, don’t pay, DONATE.
Yes, it should be a better thing, why instead of asking money for recompiled code, you offer the full software version, and if you need money, you put a Paypal Donate button next to the download link?
Aren’t you able to figure that, as you have done with code, there are other persons that may give they scripts with an UI for FREE.
Oh, I see. YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY BEFORE IT HAPPENS.
Well, to finish, one last thing. what “wattks” does is not SCENE. It is COMMERCE. As Sony does.

I thought the same thing at first, but I dont think its about the money. I mean come on, it’s a dollar. Wouldn’t want them to go spend it all in one place or anything…

Then there’s SONY…new PS3 systems at a USED game store cost about 1000 bucks…

there is a BIG difference between what Dago does and what Sony does.

Well, yes, Sony is Sony, wattks is wattks, and commerce is commerce.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay a dollar for something that can be done with other programs. ¿How do you c0py DVD’s? You use a decrypt-and-copy program? or do you use a como of programs? And “free”, of course.
To finish, scene = “altruism”, paying = commerce.

please dont bring altruism into this. just because dago wants a dollar, does not set him completely apart from where the other developers are coming from on here. designing homebrew apps is a way of getting your name out there as a programmer. it’s free advertising and a way of gaining a foothold in a business that doesnt have too many open doors. if dago ever made a mistake it may have been this donation thing, because all it did was leave him open to personal attacks from just about anyone, including those with grudges who could use this as an opportunity to tar and feather his rep.

now, im not saying EVERYONE on here isnt just doing what they do out of an altruistic interest. if any of the developers come across as purely altruistic it may be Art and Zx-81, but for all I know they could be hoping to build up careers out of this too.

whether you are asking for a dollar, or hoping to get your name out to build up your resume as a developer, it’s not altruistic.

All I ask is please share this nice piece of software with the rest of the PC community by porting it to different platforms (e.g. linux & Windows). Come on Dago^WATT! help the rest of us out. I know there are other progs for Windows, but this one is by far the best and most user friendly. Keep up the good work.

(assuming this is a real Sony person talking)

aww is that Ferrari getting lonely in your driveway? do you need to scare your customers into thinking they will get ass raped in a prison somewhere so they will buy more of your crap?

well you guys are wasting your time. you stopped caring about the needs of your real gamer audience a long time ago and decided to cater to the yuppie crowd, while figuring that whiny kids would just twist their parent’s arms into spending whatever amount to own what ‘all the other kids’ are playing. but it backfired didnt it. the yuppies dont have time for games, and the parents are too busy saving up to pay for the rising cost of gas prices and all the inflation that came along with it…and all thats left is a bunch of people that have no money and no future because they spent their whole lives playing YOUR games. so what do you think they will lean towards, paying 250 bucks for a psp plus 100-200 for a memory card and then 50 bucks here 50 bucks there for UMDs…soon its a 1000…might as well buy a PS3 right? what do you expect people to do. you laid out the scenario. you made the greatest handheld system ever made and made it too expensive to afford from day one, then rubbed it in people’s faces. now it’s an open system for a handful of lucky people and you’re pissed off because they are writing their own code for it and making their own games and they dont have to jump through your hoops anymore. now, all the REAL gamers have access to something originally made for them but marketed only for yuppies. dont lost sleep over it. these people never would have bought anything from you anyway, even if you put a gun to their heads and ass raped them in prison like you seem to want to. why? because some people just dont know how to make tons of disposable income, they just know how to get by. call them losers if you want, but they’re out there and there’s a lot of them. blame the terrorists and Bush for making all the gas prices go up if you want. everyone is cutting corners now. but unfortunately when a big corporation cuts corners it means jacking up prices and releasing 1000 dollar game systems. so what’s the little guy left with aside from a little reverse engineering?

Comment by Bailey
2007-01-09 20:27:50

You’ve completely missed my point, i never said anything about a conventional job, and i know we’re living in a climate that loves to stick it to multi national corporations, but people like this guy are taking his own time to develop software so that it makes it easier for people to use their psp. He’s not a multi billion dollar company.

I also realise that morals have pretty much gone the way of your comprehension levels, and because it’s so easy to obtain free shit via the web we bitch and moan when someone does ask for a dollar for his hard work (a dollar you cheap fucks!!).

If i owned a mac i’d def buy this, because i, like many others do back up their legally owned ps1 discs, but i also convert my psx isos that i d/led for my pc emulator. Luckily i’m a tech by trade without snot loads of money, and don’t like to be locked into a certain way of doing things, so i’ve always stuck with pcs.

What have i done? I’ve done a lot more than you’d believe, but have also done enough to know that respect comes from not what you’ve done, but how you get it done.

If you were the real Tom Green you of all people would understand this.

LOL. GTA Somalia, that’s pretty funny, and quite scary at the same time..

Why isn’t it about suckling at the tit of society and even sony, these whiners use their products, yet fail to see that if Sony wasn’t as rich as they are, they’d be paying 10 times more for their psp than they currently do. Mass production, outsourcing parts, contracts etc etc.

If they were truly against sony, they wouldn’t buy a psp, they’d boycott their products. As i do with Apple and their fucked pieces of shit ipods. Fuck you apple.

Blah blah blah, in the end it’s the consumer who chooses whether a company fails or succeeds.

And the job statement was just for those who obviously have too much time on their hands to whinge about shite, but also they’re either broke ass biatches, or they’re 13. Most likely the latter.

Now me, i can spend as long as i want in here replying and arguing meaningless topics cause i have the day off, i don’t live at home, and i’m gettin drunk as fuck.

Did that clear anything up for you Tommy Boy? Have a good one bud.

If a donation is ‘required’ to receive something, then it’s not a donation, it’s a payment. It doesn’t matter for how much or little, this piece of ware is being sold. If it’s been created incorporating software written by others for exclusively free distribution, then it’s at the very least morally wrong, which is presumably why word-games like ‘required donation’ are being used rather than ‘payment’. Does this mean that all Mac users are salesmen? Seriously though, it’s not the first time someone’s decided to go for some bux off the back of the PSP hack community (anyone remember a certain buggy custom firmware being sold via ‘required donation’ around a year ago)? It always leaves a sour taste in the mouth – not because it’s being sold, but because the seller is assuming that the rest of the community are totally ignorant of what constitutes a sale.

Err… I haven’t ‘ASSUMED’ anything (why the shouting?) – I said ‘If it’s been created incorporating . . . . .etc’ – did you get that? – ‘if’. Please learn to read. Even if it hasn’t been created using anyone else’s freeware, it’s still being sold no matter how you cut it, not given away as is implied by the word ‘donation’. Christ, why am I even trying to explain to someone who can’t understand basic concepts? Oh well.
