Custom xmbIcon Packager (in English)

greg | January 7, 2007

Not very long ago kgsws released an XMB Icon Converter tool, but I was clueless; as I’m sure many of you were in the same boat. Until now, that is! caliFrag has provided a complete English translation of kgsws’ work. Now quickly & easily learn how to customize your XMB icons.

Changes for the translated version:

  • Hexed bmp2mig.exe and join.exe: Translated to English.
  • Renamed zac.dat and kon.dat to hdr.dat and ftr.dat respectively.
  • Support for multiple firmwares with one batch file.
  • Added advanced error handling procedures to the batch file.

To Use:
Extract “xmbPackager” folder to desired installation directory. (Your choice)
Copy your icons to the “icons” folder.
1.bmp – Settings Icon
2.bmp – Photo Icon
3.bmp – Music Icon
4.bmp – Video Icon
5.bmp – Game Icon
6.bmp – Network Icon (N/A for FW1.50 users.)

Execute “start.cmd” by double clicking.

Program will prompt you to enter your firmware version:
(A) 1.50
(B) 2.50
(C) 3.02

Enter A, B or C and press the Enter key.

The batch file will execute much in the same fashion as kgsws’s.
All messages will be displayed on the screen. (in English)

Icon requirements:

  • 64×64 pixels
  • 8 bit color/256 colors

Now isn’t that easy? You can use X-Flash V18h to flash “topmenu_plugin.rco” back to your PSP.

Awesome! I was having trouble with kgsws’s XMB Icon tool. I downloaded it mainly for the backup topmenu_plugin.rco for X-flash XMB Menu Label Edit but ended up trying it anyway. This made it simpler and a lot easier.

Sorry, but what’s the point of this? Why not just use the one that is built into Popstation GUI? Works fine for me, i’ve made some killer ones for sfex2+a etc..

On that topic, how do i convert video (avi etc) to pmf? Cheers.

Hey I do believe that you can flash it to any respective firmare that access he Flash0 so yeah and if it doesnt work you have recovery mode on 3.03 OE-A/A’ Please dont bother to ask if it works on 3.xx Because 3.XX Does not have an exploit yet so you would not be able to access even homebrew apps.

dont use the app it come with just use psp set to flash the topmenu_plugin.rco dl here http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/78
just drop the topmenu_plugin.rco into the root of your memory stick – start pspet -plug in power -goto firmware tweaks – flash topmenu_plugin.rco -DONE
u may want to backup ur topmenu first to do this start pspset do the same as above except instead of flashing “Backup topmenu_plugin.rco” then exit and start usb the backup will be in the root of your psp mem stik copy it on your pc just incase u need to go back

Jezus guys, can’t you people be a little bit more specific? How the hell can you know that this doesn’t work on Sony’s 3.02 firmware, if it says so in the post. I hate this website due to this shit, not enough information, lazy editors and crappy comments by PSP fanboys with a large throat. Assholes!
