i am running fw 3.02 OE-A and was wondering, if i should update to this new software, as i am not going to be running any PS1 games until i get my 2gb memory card (atm using 1gb mem card)
Also wondered if this new custome fw came with a tool to return to fw 1.50 if needed? because the 3.02 OE-A installer came with a bit which allows you to return back to 1.50

P.S. this is my personal opinion, if Sony wants to keep bringing out new updates, then why not do something useful like make the music folder like the Ipods and Sony Walkmans, were is sorts out the music into Artists sections etc.

I have 2.71SE and use the noumd mode as i only own spiderman umd (video so doesn’t work).

I would love to update but i read somewhere the compatibility of no umd mode is much less. Would GTA VC work?? or should i update and just get a demo disk of a mate?

I think DAX should leave an option when he updates this firmware again so that you can overclock to 333 in game/iso’s only or everywhere if you want to. Because when you overclock to 333 for games, you really don’t want to stay OC’d just to surf the net. Anyways, just a thought

I think u should downgrade to 1.50 and then upgrade to 303 OE-A2. That way you will always have 1.50 via recovery mode.

I’ve been trying to get the 3.03OE-A onto my PSP but so far have failed. My PSP just wont create the DXAR file which is highly annoying. BTW i am following instructions and ive even tried 3.02OE-A which has failed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

no, theyll still run as smooth, but compressed games run a load faster, like my copy of grand theft auto vice city stories….the vehicles used to be too jerky to play…….aint now ;-)

yes there was some trouble with bricking but it is sorted now its only for the 1.5fw or 3.2oeb

I can’t seem to get any psx titles working since installing this. Both mgs and Gran Turismo get to the black screen with the white wrinting then the psp just shuts down :( Any ideas guys?

well i had that thought asswell but beleave me u will never need to return to 1.5 but i have done it so it is possible i thought the same as you safety first so i went installed up to 3.3oea then downgraded back to 1.5 and then back to oea2

yeah i can’t agree more man, 1.50 is old news (blasphemy) but suppose one brand new hack comes along for 1.50? or a new custom firmware that is alot bigger than flash0 and flash1 and should be emulated via 1.50? That got me thinking……

you can run all your 1.5 apps on this firmaware it has the 1.5 subkernal or something like that which allows you to load all ur 1.5 programmes for it plus iso’s run staight from the xmb menu which meens no more devhook

that’s a little serious in my opinion, that’s why I’m posting so much (first time): if it’s hard to create the apprpriate Eboot for recovery, then why doesn’t someone post a link here at psp-hacks, so it would be easier to find it in case of emergency? ps-I know man, I like to believe i’m not a noob somedays, but turns out i’m too old…..

thank you dark alex was sticking with 1.5 for a long time, as scared of touching the flash, but followed the instruct perfectly and happily playing res evil three ps1 on psp. very very nice, was afraid hearing about the issues with the bricking, but doing it manually no issue works great thanks again. if wanted to go back, no desire now, but not clear or how to do so.

don’t know if i’ll try it right now, since i’m too happy with my 3.03oe-a2 to “mess” with it but if anything comes up be sure i’ll let u know! My cousin is the ultimate noob so i’ll surely use it! thanks again!!!!!!

In answer to many questions, I was also suspicious of this upgrade from 1.5 but I bit the bullet. It was well worth it though (I was however missing overclock option from DH) and much easier than expected, anyone can do it, I recommend avoiding easy installers. If for any reason you do choose to revert back to 1.5 go to http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about58272.html
on this site and click on the RECOVERY button to download an exe, this will extract all files required. I have verified this works and have saved it for future use if ever required.

i can confirm that recovery file works without problems :) now 2 ways to get back to 1.5 and couple of days ago there was none

I found a bug i guess, whenever i tried to delete the default “Connection 1″, i hang and my psp restarts…

after updating to this i cant get my x-flash v18h to work.. anyone here have the same problem?

I really do want to upgrade from my 1.50 PSP running devhook 46 USB hack (2.71), but my only concern is that I do not yet have a big enough memory card to play ISO from, usually I launch the larger games through the USB.
Am I to understand that 3.03OE does not support any connection for USB play?
If not then I shall have to wait a bit longer…..(oh poo I really want to play some old PSX stuff, but what the hey!!)

Thanks Dark Alex, 3.xx OE is just so cool! Greetings and praises from a PSP user in Ecuador, South America. Just one thing, the UMD free region doesnt seem to work. Mine is an American PSP, and have some umd movies. But have a region 2 UMD. With 3.03 it doesnt appear anymore the “wrong region” message, but it now simply says “the umd cannot be run”. Seems the Free Region UMD option in 3.03 doesn t work well

gta liberty city doesn`t work if you select no umd required, is there a solution for because the umd of my friends psp doesn`t work and he like the game.

Big it up for the man they call Dark Alex, what a genius. Just upgraded to 3.03 OE A2 works perfectly. I formatted my memory card B4 upgrading and used the manual install. I’m a noob to this and found it easy to follow instructions provided by Dark Alex.

Dark Alex has made some pretty cool things in the past, originally had 2.0 so i downgraded to 1.5 and had that for a good year. When i saw the first custom firmware i didnt worry to much about it but when the Open Source edition of the 3.xx series cam out, i wanted it for the wants of it being a better playstation emulator (being made by sony) so i can play my roms.

Hi, seen 2 problems in 3.03OE-A2:
The Free region UMD doesnt seem to work. I tried a region 2 UMD movie on my American PSP and it doesn´t play. And another issue is that my homebrew apps (AFKIM, PSPRADIO) turn on the wifi but doesn´t connect to anything. Before this, when run on 2.80 through the TIFF exploit they worked. I don´t know why

is location free functional in the new revision. cause it has been disabled in all of the other 3.XX firmware releases. I am leaving for japan at the end of the month and would like to upgrade but not if im gonna lose my location free tv. please respond after testing

respect to Dark Alex fantastic work, manual install everythime it’s really not that hard, a couple of noob questions sorry, Do i have to have a UMD in to play iso’s? if no what in the settings do i change, psp locks up if i have no UMD in and try playing an iso , i get an error that the game could not be started. secondly how do i change clock speeds i don’t see any options for this either? why do i have “Currupt files” when looking in my game folder?

NICEY you must have a umd in to play isos if your in devhook but if your in 3.03oea then theres no need 2 put a umd in.
if a error comes upo then go into recovery mode and change the settings to 1.5 kernel and this mite work!…..inorder to change clock speeds go 2 recovery mode by starting the psp and holding R then go into cpu speed and change it there.the corrupt icons are normal this happens to evryone! hope this helps!

Hey, im not havin crashes in ps1 games but im getting slowdowns in FF9 and breath of fire 4 in some parts of town, maybe its my memory stick, should i buy a new1?? Im using the NTSC versions of the game!!!

i am wondering how the recovery mode works coz i installed 303 oe-a’ knowing that i could recover it if i needed,every thing went ok installing it but i have deleted the files out of my psp game folder that i used to install the custom firmware,so im wondering if the recovery will still work without the files, or if i will have to get hold of the 1.50 eboot and 3.03 eboot and sort of reinstall the custom firmware.

this so wierd… i had to downgrade(RECOVERY) from 3.03 OE-B.. to 1.50 …(cause my PSX werent workign anymore).. then all the sudden while i was Upgrading the PSP from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-A … the USB loading thing was doing Blue squares.. really wierd… then while it finished the Process .. the PSP menu had the same Blue Square Glitches.. i had to smach my PSP to actually get those blue squares off.. cuase everytime i turned it up again it was still tehre the Blue Squares.. but yeah i got to made it disappear .. and well successully went back to 3.02 OE-A… – 3.02 OE-B … – 3.03 OE-A … -3.03 OE-B

Anybody had the same Blue square glitches as me… (when downgrading(RECOVERY) back to 1.50 from 3.03 OE-B ????) well anyways yeah now my PSX games are back Working 100%

I bricked my PSP also upgrading custom 2.71 to 3.03 OE-A’. I was stupid and tried to upgrade on battery power so maybe thats the reason i failed or is it just because i was stupid.
Anyways all I have now is black screen when i try to turn my playstation on.
Is that it for my precious fellow of is there some way to bring it back alive?
