Easy 2.80 to 2.71 Downgrader

Exactly two posts down you’ll notice 0okm’s 2.80 -> 2.71 downgrader for TA-079 to TA-086 pcb’s. With many reported successes we now have an Easy Downgrader courtesy of ~maniac~ from Klm Software.
Simply connect your PSP to an available USB port and run the supplied Windows executable. All the required downdater files will be copied to the correct location on your memory stick.
Simplified instructions:

- Pray

I think the faceplate isnt attached properly or has been damaged and i think it is a generic problem cause my pals does it as well.

nahh, i think psp-hacks.com just wants to make sure everything is safe before they post
exactly. I was actually in communication with the author because they specify TA-082–TA-086, when it’s in fact TA-079 to TA-086 compatible. And I’m also not around the computer 24/7 to immediately post such updates. So, like the guy below says, go elsewhere if you don’t like it.

But the other ‘easy downgrader’ had a lot of ‘bricked’ PSP. Right? I know it is a low percentage. But there were a risk of briking.

Look mate i have used tht easy downgrader 4 times now! i have done it 2 mine, my bros and 2 of my friends. Sometimes it takes ages to start and u have to turn on and off several times but if u have a non ta-082 i would definatly recomend using it.
also if u load a game or somit then go back to the xmb it will work.
& once i have to remove a battery to do it.

i don’t think it’s a matter of which is safer… i’d use the 2gb — more space to work with.

if u mean start the process on one psp pull out da memory card and stick in another.

everything usually fits on the standard 32mb card. so just delete some stuff and do it.

yea this would be really usful cause i was brought i pink psp (ta-086 i believe) but it had 2.81 factory on it so i couldnt do anything with it!

Some clearifications:
This just makes it easier to use 0okm’s downdater
It will work on PSPs with ALL Motherboards BUT must have Firmware 2.80

I have tested this on 2 PSPs and QJ.net’s Vincent has tested it on his. Every time it was tested, it worked.
hi guys i was wondering im at 1.5 and then i went up to 3.2oe-b can you run all kind of home brew application. and can u please suggest me something cool i can do cause i dont know what to do now.
just get some homebrew from under downloads in this site…try some emulators if you have downloaded the roms or vector infector is pretty good…just put it into GAME150 folder which you need to create and this folder should be located in the same directory as you find GAME and GAME270 i believe…enjoy!

The only way it can is to use DAXs 2.71-1.5 downgrader.
I am a complete “newb” to PSP hacks/exploits and homebrew, and pulled off the downgrade fairly successfully. I can confirm 100% that this package does work, as I have successfully downgraded my one and only TA-082 with Firmware 2.80, down to Firmare 2.71.
now, go to:

and download both the 2.71 downgrader and the 3.02 OE-A, (not rev b)
first run the second downgrader, then follow the instructions to get to OE-A
Once at OE-A, upgrade to OE-B (rev b) from DAX’s Site.

the diference is psp TA-082 can downgrade to 2.80 2.71 and then 1.50 3.02OE-B thas it and for the others motherboards you can do it with the 2.80 to 1.50

has anyone ever thought about making a ported version of LIMEWIRE for the PSP, or any torrent type app?
wouldn’t work cause the PSP has a slow network transfer rate. It can download at a max of about 20kbps (my approximation from experience)
as slow as that may be, it’s still something to look into. especially for those of us who would rather have total anonymity when searching for some of those ever elusive GBA bios files, or keys.bin…
those files are pretty small anyway, so I’m sure transfer rates wont matter

hey this has nothing to do with downgrader but i was downloading 2.0 and it seemed like my psp froze so i took the battery out and now when i tyr to play it the green light only comes on for 45 seconds then shuts off again. the screen stays black. does anyone know whats wrong plz tell me if you do.

Better Idea SMACH it… i bet u it will work again.. I’ve smashed miens many tiems ut does that, and believe me take out teh memory card, hit the PSP(in the Back… trun it on… Hold agian teh power button(to turn it off , then hit it again.put back up the memory Stick, take off teh batery, put it back on, (open the UMD lid( turn it on… it suppose to COme back to Life.
if not yeah you guessed it… Take it back(its smashed u should definately get a Refund ajajaj) But well for my PSP(is one of teh originals.. it works for me the Smashing Fixing Brick thing. ;)

if it dont star , ther is nothing to do , if you still have your garanty with SONY tell them that when you was updating with a official update example 3.03 it get bricked if that doenst work , you can use it as a keychain

open ur UMD cover, look at the back of the PSP.
If there is a number at the top right corner, that means that your have a TA~082 or 086 PSP.
If the number is on the left side, means u have a TA~079
so which is better TA-079 or the other ones cause i have the TA-079.
Well, TA~082 is better for Homebrew. TA~082 is being cracked right now. This is just a important thing to know of when trying out new homebrew, specially ones that write to your PSPs flash memory

Another update for you folks. You might have read earlier I (a major newb) had downgraded to 2.71, then 1.5 on my TA-082. I am now running 3.02 OE-A! I used the basic 1.5 easy upgrader provided a page or so earlier on this site, and it worked well.

OK for the Brick guy look im from mexico so i dont know any sony shop on the other side of the river but it easy just go to the official sony web page and check the adress for your state .
and for the Motherboards guy , look that downgrader is for any kind of motherboard , but look open the UMD and if thers a scrip in gold letters IC1003 is a TA-082 and you must use this downgrade first and then the Downgrade 2.71 to 1.50 0okm , but
is thers some letters that is almost imposible to se because thers a metal cover and you just see the middle then you must use the downgrade 2.80 to 1.50 , i tested with my friend´s psp and it really works .
Ok so good luck both and remember that write on flash is always dangerous but come on!!! if your psp doesnt run with the OE-B then ur psp is almost useless
and dont forget to buy the good games on original

Quicky Question i’ve noticed when reading about these downgraders that they all say something of the sort as TA-079 to TA-086 pcb’s only or TA-082 can someone please explain quickly how I can check this on my psp, when I look @ my umd it has no writing what so ever as say the TA-082 has, i’ve had this psp since it was first released, and I’ve been stuck w/ 2.80 4 ever crossing my fingers and hoping 2.80 dg’er would be here, now just to be safe can someone explain, very sorry if this question as already been asked else where.

There is still a risk involved but most of the reports confirm that this works.
If you are going ahead with this, remember the following:
-Make sure that your PSP has at least 75% battery left (100% recomended)
-Even if the downgrader crashes, DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY. That is the number one reason that most people bricked. It is known to hang but will recover.
-Don’t forget the last step
-Use xLoader, not eLoader otherwise it WILL BRICK

it is listed under “Homebrew enabler for 2.71″. Download the “Rev D with Devhook”
By running Hen-D you go to photos and go to Hen-D. Your PSP should flash 2 colors i think it was blue and green then you should be at the menu again.

no its not that…i had a 3.00 then i upgraded to 3.03 when it was installin i turned it off and bought a new 1 and returned the bricked one back lol i got my money back and a new 1.50 psp

What is the original reason of the TA-082 to brick while using previous downgrade tools?
I think that it will work if you have used DAXs 2.71 downdater. What that downdater does is that it starts a PRX that changes the PSPs idstorage. The TA-082 has a different idstorage. Once that is done, the TA-082 PSP is basically a TA~079. That is my understanding of it.

My PSP seems frozen. I went to photos then pressed x then 2 images are showed didnt see the second file but the first says rand and it froze with that. Should I try restarting the PSP?

and try not to use the wall paper get ur theme thing on
its normal to not see a file and dont go in the image folder where u see the blue icon thing. just go to the xLoader and press start. and then it should say slideshow can not be started. that means u have the XLoader runing.

There is currently no exploit for 2.81 you’ll just have
to wait for the exploit.
I have downgraded a TA-082 (IC1003 in the UMD drive bay) and a NON TA-082 but I have a question…how are the mobos being identified in the first place (besides knowing that a TA-082 is ID’d by the IC1003 in the UMD drive bay? For example, how do I know exactly what version my mobo is if there is NOT any IC1003 in the UMD bay? Is there some sort of identifying program code that can be run on the PSP to find out exactly the version the mobo is?

For the people at the top of the list who have analog stick problems, I had the same problem so I contacted Sonys tech help line and I followed their advice and bought a new psp and viola the problem is solved. Sonys help line is always there to help with your problems… HA HA

Yesterday I took the first Easy Downgrade for 2.80 (the one with v0.1) and had a successull downgrade.
Now my PSP is fw 1.5 with 3.02 OEB emulated.

I have read all the comments here and most other places i can find regarding psps, I am coming to terms with the fact that i am going to have to wait for a downgrade for 2.81.

yes, this particular downgrader works with ALL PSPs that have 2.80 firmware. Once you are at 2.71, that is when you will need to know your PSPs MoBo Number
now i got another prob i installed this and my eloader and xloader stopped working… they were workin fine till this was installed im really pissed :[

ok i got it no need for help thank, this downgrader works, i just did my friend fw 2.80 TA-O82,downgrade it to 2.71 now i’am going to Use HEN-D and the generic downgrader to downgrade to 1.50 so I can install 3.02OE-B and the new Easy 3.03 OE-A Installer i love this lol i will put the steps i took .
1= Install eLoader 0.995 you can get the auto-installer from this site. http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=88888898
2=Now browse to your PSP’s photo menu, and open the folder ‘xLoader 280′. If everything has worked, you will see 2 file icons, one a round blue circle, the other a ‘corrupt data’ icon. So long as your PSP hasn’t crashed at this point, then xLoader is now running
3=Alternatively, highlight the ‘xLoader 280′ folder and press START, to attempt a slideshow of the images in the folder. The PSP will complain that there are no pictures to show – this is OK, so long as the PSP hasn’t crashed, then xLoader is now running.
4=Browse to the homebrew you want to load, in the PSP’s ‘GAME – Memory Stick’ folder, and press X or O (depending on your PSP region) to start it.
5=tart 0okm’s downdater straight from the XMB, thanks to xLoader.
6=Cross fingers and wait… It didn’t take long at all, maybe 30 secs or so.
7=when you are doing this do not turn your psp off or take the power cord out put your psp down let it finish,when it’s finish it will tell you to turn off the power you will do so.
Confirm the almost obligatory BSOD with ‘O’ and restart.
Check system settings, firmware is now 2.71 again.
Use HEN-D and the generic downgrader to downgrade to 1.50 so I can install 3.02OE-B

my psp has no letters or any thing in the umd bay i bought it july 2005 what motherboard is it?
So, now that it’s been a while and a ton of people have tried it, how safe would you say this is? I REALLY want to take every single precaution. Is there a way to brick it besides turning your psp off or removing the battery? (like a missing folder in my mem card, sheer bad luck, not praying? :)) tx!
Well, I bricked mine. Fortunately, bought at Costco less than a year ago, so they will refund money [~$330] for my bricked PSP and two crappy games [NHL and Socom 2].
I tried running the xloader, and all I got on the screen was the xloader screen, then when I browsed over to Eloader, eloader started.
I thought that maybe eloader running was through the tiff exploit, and the fact that I saw xloader meant I was using xloader.
Then I ran the downgrade. Errors from hell. A message to turn off and turn back on to recover.
A brick.
Looked over the internet to see if there was any kind of io connector or such in the PSP to do a consumer downgrade. Nope. Sony doesn’t take ANY precautions in case of a firmware fault. Unlike 99% of other consumer devices, there isn’t a monitor rom that it reverts to in case of a bad firmware image.
The whole bricking issue is more of a Sony design issue, and Sony trying to prevent people from being able to use the hardware the consumer purchased however the consumer wants to. You _SHOULD_ be able to upgrade or downgrade any product to ANY version, including open software, but the pinheads at Sony and major media conglomerates disagree.
So pirate all the movies and games you can, because the bastards at Sony and in the media companies are DEFINITELY out to screw you, for money, which is like digital prostitution.
I’m sure I will feel better after I have more money and a PSP running homebrew after my return to costco.

Then I upgraded to DarkAlex’s 3.03oea at dark-alex.org, following his instructions, and using the firmware copies from the download archive on psp-hacks, and everything is beautiful.

Unfortunately if you’ve bricked it that’s the end of the road. You can attempt to send it back to Sony saying that it bricked whilst upgrading your firmware and see if you can get a replacement, or you can just buy a new psp.
Sad, but true. Some devices, like CiscoSys [CiscoLinksys] 54G have a serial connection that allows you to debrick a bricked 54G. It would have been nice to have such a feature on the PSP, but that would make homebrew and firmware migrations way easy and safe.
got myself a brick…EXACTLY what happened to DogNo7. I don´t know why, but when I tried the xLoader it did nothing. When I got to eLoader 0995, it displayed the downdater and the installotron. I chose the downdater, the image “we´re all noobz” appeared and then the program said there was an error and that it failed and told me to shut down in order to cancel the operation. brick.
for those afraid of downgrading, i suggest checking the procedures for where we had it wrong. as the file was downloaded from psp-hacks I find it hard to be a bricker-virus.

This is ONLY for 2.80. If you have ANY other firmware, this will at best, brick your psp, and at worst, brick your psp. Use the search function on psp-hacks and find the appropriate downgrader for your 2.60, and the TA-82 issues.

Read the comments in the file that came with your downdater. Most of Dark Alex’s files need original proms that can be found on the download section of PSP-HACKS.
Read the instructions. Make sure your battery is at least 75%, make sure you are plugged into the ac charger, and it is plugged into the wall. Follow every instruction. Including formatting your memory stick.
Before doing any upgrade, format your memory stick.
If you have game saves you don’t want to overwrite, save them out, and restore them after your upgrade.
After you upgrade, format your memory stick.
I say that last one because after downgrading, you don’t want to have any of the downgraders on your memory stick, and accidentally start one up, and then turn it off, or take out the battery, and then say, “oh crap, I have, a brick.”
DO NOT USE ELOADER TO DOWNGRADE IT BRICKS YOUR PSP!!!!

did you actually see the eloader menu when that happened or did you run the downdater from the xbm yet it still bricked?
is there any way to repair it if ur psp got bricked??? like bringing it to a shop n let it examine n repair it?
ya the menu was there , i dont know if it was xloader or eloader but i know i started xloader and so thats what it shouldve been but im assuming eloader started instead, i still had a menu and was able to start the downgrade then about 1 second after i press o to continue , boom failed
I see what the problem is.
Eloader is needed by xloader, but what is happening is people are getting into eloader, and running the update from there, instead of using the xbox standard menu, going to games tab, and doing the downdate there.
If you are doing this and see the eloader screen, exit out of it to the standard xbox menu, go over to the games tab, then down to memory stick at the bottom of that tab, and press x, and then select downgrade from there. That will make things go wooshy wooshy instead of brick brick.

ok first try the downdater in game menu it wont run now go over to photo icon and start x loader NOT eloader a pic will come up press o to go back and now go back to the game icon and the downdater will run and prompt you to press o if you get a kernel error power off manually holding the power button up for 10 secs and retry again took me 4 times to get it to run it will then power itself off when you turn back on you will get bos just press o and you will be back at 2.71 IF YOU GET THE ELOADER MENU WITH THE DOWNDATER IN IT DONT RUN IT IT WILL BRICK YA PSP
You are correct. What is not obvious is that xloader pic is actually a program. You want to go from the xloader pic, back with O key, go to game menu in the regular PSP menu, select memory stick at the bottom of the game “tab” and then run downdater.
If you get into eloader menu, reboot the psp, by holding the power button up for 10 seconds, and try again.
can anyone (as in a dev) tell me if this will work for a finding exploits in the psp fw.
1) first get a copy of 2.80fw and 2.81fw
2)compare the sections of each fw and find the different program codes to the fw then base the exploit off of the changes made to the existing 2.81fw for a downgrader
