Yet Another Simple Popstation GUI

greg | January 2, 2007

Seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry are releasing their own Popstation interfaces. This one particularly, by forum member ZiNgABuRgA, caught my attention because 1) it was emailed to me, 2) it’s visually appealing in comparison to most, and 3) it features more.

  • PSX images and EBOOTs are FULLY customizable (eg save file fixes) – even the gameboot picture can be changed
  • EBOOT patching is quite fast – no more PSP Brew
  • Conversion with a progress bar!
  • ALL files are included – no more searching for elusive KEYS.BIN or BASE.PBP files
  • MANY other features – such as ISO extracting from EBOOTs, Preview feature, EBOOT add/delete/extracting etc etc
Simple POPSTATION GUI Screenshot

Mac users — you may find interest in Prometeus which essentially provides the same functionality.

i have only just used this for the first time, and i already found out by READING what it says on the APP, you need to make the game id the same for each disk, says that in teh middle just under game id. i wish ppl would read stuff first.

You do understand that this is illegal ? After decompiling this, it clearly has parts of the Hot Shots Eboot, clear copyright infractions freely distrubution of a Game which sony are selling. Im all for homebrew and this rocks, though psp-hacks could be in trouble if this gets back to $ony.

Comment by BBSan

It could have parts of any other PS1 titles too, though sony can’t proove which one it is

This should be taken down and repackaged WITHOUT the copyrighted material. It’s a nice looking app from the screenshot, though.

I just wish for someone to figure out how to convert saved games from an emulator like PCSX into a PSP gamesave, then import/export those saved games.

Comment by PSP Gamer
2007-01-02 14:51:08

Copyrighted material? Sorry, but I can’t find any copyrighted material on this package.

About importing PC emulator save game to PSP, there is already a program for it.

Comment by Marcus
2007-01-02 20:35:36

Both keys.bin and the original eboot.pbp from the golf game are both copyrighted material from Sony. It’s the main reason why we were told to go find it ourselves when popstation first came out. If you didn’t know it was copyrighted… well… now you do.

Again, I’m not bashing the author of the app. I saw the release thread and he’s put a lot of thought and effort into this program from when it first came out so he gets tons of respect from me. I mean, there are better things to do with your time than reading up on the ISO structure, but I’m glad he did. :)

“About importing PC emulator save game to PSP, there is already a program for it.”
Really? Wow. What’s it called?

2007-01-03 15:58:23

the key.bin file is as gay as the damn GBA bios file. nobody’s going to go hunting anyone down for those tiny pieces of shit, but because they are technically under copyright, all these sites are going to be too scared to host them. this leaves the ‘homebrew community at large’ in tons of frustrating scenarios where we all have to go on these stupid easter egg hunts on torrents until we find these stupid files. its retarded.

the eboot file however, is a game and that obviously should not be distributed as part of an app. thats just asking for trouble…

great program, but could use a memory fix, too much of a hog

Comment by ZiNgA BuRgA
2007-01-02 18:40:11

Hmm, it shouldn’t take up that much memory. When handling files, it uses ~100KB memory at most. The main memory hog would be having the game list loaded in memory – I’ll take that away in the next release – this saves about 1-2MB of memory. Otherwise, I’ve never seen it take up over 15MB of memory yet (not including the ~3.5MB that popstation uses) – note that a blank file in Notepad seems to take ~4.5MB memory.

IMO 15MB isn’t much, considering that this program shouldn’t be converting whilst you’re doing other stuff as popstation uses the HDD quite heavily. Also, extra memory is used to improve speed. I’ll be able to reduce the memory usage a bit, but it won’t be more than a few MB.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion :)

did you copy keys.bin from the folder where this is
(inside data) over you your psp…should look like…
ms:\\psp\game\(name of game as new folder)\
in here you should have keys.bin and eboot.pbp
as far as creating a new game name just type it into this GUI and it’ll rename it within the eboot (i’d also click on select next to game id so you can select the real game id from the list)… in case you were wondering you can also add custom images select them where it says icon0.png and pic1.png i’d also make a transparent one for pic0.png that is the size stated…i’d also download Syn’s PSX icon pack as it will provide you with a nice icon0 and pic1 just rename it without the (#)
hope it helps! noobfriendly as all hell

yea i did all that and i still get the same problem. i even tried going back to 1.50 and back to 3.02 OE-B and still nothing. here’s a question though… do i have to buy hot shots golf 2 through a ps3 or can i just use this app. with any game and my psp will be ready to recognize ps1 games? im just asking cuz i dunno if my psp needs to have some sort of data that only a ps3 can install in it…

hey i think I know what’s up with all these crashes and freezes. I’m not a programmer or anything, so dont flame me. This is just a theory anyway. I think the 3.02 firmware Sony put out was made to host a limited number of PSX titles. Some compatibility was probably intentionally left out just in case something like this were to happen, so that people would have to upgrade to get the rest of the PSX games to work. So, we might have to wait for a 3.03 SE series of custom firmwares to come out before some of these titles are playable. Just a theory…
