Easy Upgrade & Downgrade Packages

Posted by greg

After much praise from the fine IRC’ers in #psp-hacks, Team Reign has released what they call the “Complete AIO Upgrading & Downgrading Package.” Complete AIO (All-in-one) is a collection of packages to assist noobs with downgrading any PSP — from firmware 1.51 through to 3.03.

All 5 installers are packaged using ADePSP’s PSP Installer.

If you’re running any FW below 2.80 (1.51, 2.71, etc…), you’ll want to upgrade first using “280EasyUp” and then downgrade back to 1.50 using “280EasyDown.” You could also go straight to 3.03 — see below.

If you’re running a firmware version between 2.80 and 3.03 (2.81, 3.01, etc…) you’ll want to use “303EasyUp” and back to 1.50 with “303EasyDown.” — You get the idea. And yes, the unpatched Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories UMD is still required.

After you’re staring in awe at your new 1.50 PSP… Why not upgrade it to Dark_AleX’s 3.03 OE-C with “303OEC_EASY.”

Although the installers include everything and copy everything to the correct location on your memory stick, I still recommend reading through the included text files for guidance and any potential gotchas.

As with any downgrader: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

3.10 Firmware Decrypted!

Posted by greg

Ah ha! Good morning, and what a morning! Team C+D has done it again with successfully decrypting the latest PSP firmware — 3.10.

  1. Download the firmware 3.10 update and the new PSAR dumper
  2. Copy “psar_dump2″ and “psar_dump2%” to the correct location on your memory stick (GAME or GAME150 depending on your configuration — must be ran under the 1.50 kernel)
  3. Use PBP Unpacker to extract DATA.PSAR from the 3.10 update EBOOT
  4. Run PSAR Dumper

Kudos on that! And thanks to absolutely everyone who dropped me an email with the news.

Are you anticipating what I’m anticipating? ;)

PiMPStreamer v0.77 Released

Posted by greg

There whereabouts of DickyDick1969 is no longer a mystery! Today he’s back on the virtual streets breaking off a new version of PiMPStreamer — the popular WiFi audio & video streaming solution for Windows and the PSP.

Stream a wide range of supported video/audio formats (AVI, ASF, M4V, VOB, MP4, MPG, MPEG, WMV, MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV — just to name a few) over your wireless connection. In addition to the list of supported media extensions, PiMPStreamer is also capable of streaming YouTube videos and images.

v0.77 changes:

  • updates windoze dll’s, latest from the ffmpeg svn build…
  • you don’t have to copy the SUB file any more. PS will detect the SUB file on the PC and copy it to your memory stick. (Note: only SUB not SRT, just convert these with various tools)
  • image pause, press square to (un)pause
  • For 3.03 just copy the psp files to the GAME150 folder.

After the complete devastation Sony experienced yesterday; they’re back on track and quick to release firmware 3.10 for Korean PSPs. I’d imagine the rest of us will be seeing it shortly. It’s also safe to say they’ve probably patched the recent exploits (see here too) which led to the 3.03 downgrader we saw ~ 24 hours ago (two posts down). Here’s a rough and dirty translation from Google:

PSP Firmware 3.10 (Korean):

GAME:

  • It enjoyed PLAYSTATIONNetwork tie frames and the function for was strengthened.

NETWORK:

  • From [LocationFree™ Player] it will be able to remake the video file of MPEG-4 AVC formats and LocationFree™ base stations where model life is LF-PK20 (Japan) or LF-B20 and LF-B10 (the United States) (Sony product) it is this necessity.

PSXMC2PSP Beta 1 Released

Posted by greg

Here’s a new [useful] tool from developer weltall. The utility is designed to work in conjunction with a “homebrew compatible” PS2 and PSP with CWCheat. By directly connecting your PSP (via USB) to a homebrew-enabled PS2, you’re able to move/copy PSX saves from the virtual CWCheat PSP memory card (mc) to the PS2’s, and vice versa.

So, to answer your next question, what does this do? It’s ideally used for portability between PSX saved games on both your PS2 and PSP. i.e.) You’re playing Tekken 2 (for PSX) on the PS2 and decide to call it quits on stage 8. You proceed with saving your game and everything is hunky-dory. From that point, with PSXMC2PSP, you’re able to transfer this save from the memory card to the PSP (with CWCheat for POPs) and continue where you left off. Pretty nifty, huh? You can also do the reverse — copy from the PSP to PS2.

Details on how to use it can be round in “README_PSXMC2PSP.txt.”

Important notes:

  • this is a beta so it’s still missing some functions i want to add and also it could contain some bugs so if you find any please tell me
  • the generated mc aren’t still perfect (they miss one header and some reserved things) but still they work fine with the psp emulator (at least with wild arms 2)
  • it’s still missing multi block saves support so if you have one of these you wont be able to use this to copy your mc
  • The generated mc aren’t raw dumps but generated starting from the file system. this means that you wont be able to undelete saves from your mcs with this like you would do with a dexdrive the data is just missing
  • as this CAN format your psx memory card be really careful with the start button (which is the command doing the formatting process)
  • if errors happens they wont be reported. so if you can’t get this to work altough it seems all went fine means you did something wrong.

3.03 Downgrader Released!

Posted by greg

They said it was coming within the week, and as promised, here it is! The long awaited 3.03 easy-to-use downgrader!

The almighty Noobz have laid out some specific ground-rules:

  • This downgrader is for v3.03 firmware only. But if you have v2.81 - v3.02, no problem - you can just upgrade to v3.03 to use the downgrader.
  • You need a copy of the unpatched GTA:Liberty City Stories UMD. No ISOs, no patched UMDs, not Vice City Stories. The most reliable way: the unpatched disks have the v2.0 firmware update on them.
  • This downgrader is intended to enable homebrew. Homebrew is NOT the same as piracy. Don’t be a thieving loser - buy the games you play.
  • The downgrader will work on all current PSP hardware (TA-079 - TA-086). Patching of TA-082+ is automatic in the downgrader.
  • You downgrade at your own risk. There is always a chance of bricking, although we have done everything we can think of to make this process safe.

Everything you need to know concerning a successful downgrade can be found in “Downgrader_HOWTO.txt.” Read them carefully!

Also, for those who fear messing with their PSP’s flash, can take advantage of the full homebrew experience with Homebrew Enabler (HEN) for 3.03. “HEN 303 - the Duff release” works in the same manner as Dark_AleX’s HEN. The requirements: a firmware 3.03 PSP and an unpatched version of Grand Theft Auto: Libery City Stories. Details on installation and usage are inside README.txt.

Warning: After downgrading from 3.03 to 1.5, there are some remnants of 3.03 left in flash. If you later try to re-upgrade to 3.03 and repeat the downgrade, things will break. At some later point, we will work on a cleaner that will remove these extra files. Until then, enjoy! (Don’t worry, upgrading to 3.03 OE firmwares still works fine).

Have fun!

PSP-DEVOLUTION — A New PSP Modchip?!

Posted by greg

I received note that a new modchip is in production, PSP-DEVOLUTION. Although, at the moment, there’s not much information regarding the chip except the speculated features:

  • Flash your PSP using the internal USB Port
  • no additional USB Port required
  • latest ACTEL ProASIC 3 technology
  • low power consumption
  • works on all available PSP versions incl. TA-082 and TA-086
  • custom BIOS with a lot of cool additional features
  • easy to install
  • just a bit of soldering skills required, no hardcore installation

Something to keep our eyes on anyway.
