2.80 Kernel Mode Exploit Found!

Team C+D have shared a wonderful gift for 2.80 owners this holiday season. It’s a few bytes big and wrapped in a proof-of-concept package — *gives it a shake* — you guessed it, a kernel mode exploit! Its been confirmed by many reputable sources and seems to have true potential.
Nothing has developed from it yet; meaning no downgrader or functioning kernel mode apps. But, be patient! Rest assure the true hackers are working their voodoo magic.
The download below is proof-of-concept; only source code. End-users, sit tight — expect to see some progress in the near future. It’s only a matter of time.

Yes! I got my brother a PSP and downgraded his to 1.5 and was having so much fun with it I was really considering selling my 2.8 for what I could get for it and getting a second hand 2.71 or lower PSP. Now, I don’t have to! Keep up the great work guys!

you do not use this, this is a proof-of-concept
this does nothing for people who currently want to downgrade, this is a tool that shows developers how to access the kernal mode exploit

i knew something like this was coming near christmas in my head i was like “mgs po needs 2.81 and i have 2.8….well ill just use kernal mode on christmas”(although nothing was developed from it yet.)

let everyone be reminded this program does not downgrade, its just a proof-of-concept which MAY allow you to downgrade once someone uses the exploit (which this program shows how to access) to make one
TA-082 users can never downgrade below 2.5 or 2.6 without major problems and likely bricking (one of them… i cant remember) (this is due to a differnt motherboard configuration)

i totally did the same thing twice with the 2.6 downdater and the 2.71 downdater, both 1 week before the downdater was released. now im on 2.80 and arent going anywhere but down from here.
I have FW 2.80 and I just bougth a 2GB memory stick. w00t w00t now hopefully I’ll be able to play isos.

I’m sorry, I’m VERY new to PSP and this whole hack/homebrew/downgrade discussion..
Does this only mean that you can downgrade your PSP firmware from 2.8 to 1.5, or does it mean that you can use homebrew on your PSP with 2.8 firmware?

My firmware version is 2.81 and not 2.71.. No one is more disappointed than me.
I take it the kernel exploit was exclusive to 2.80 and not for any later versions. Am I correct. Please tell me I’m wrong.

Yo, this is great! Well, guys there is one thing I wanna know is homebrew illegal?
…no unless your useing iso’s or playing emulated games that you don’t own
isos are legal if you back up your own game
roms are legal if you own the original game or delete it within 24 hours of download
emulators are legal- however some require a BIOS file that is illegal to distribute over the internet (yet its still done)
the thing is you likely wont get in major trouble for downloading a game or two- just downloading many or distributing them to others is what gets people in trouble

no, if ur gonna upgrade then goto 1.5 or 2.71 se-c, the use devhook to emulate 3.02 (or 3.03 when it’s updated) :)

Just means it’s an exploit that allows this version of firmware to be manipulated in ways it COULDN’T before which MAY lead to homebrew, and/or a downgrader. It doesn’t mean you can now go 2.80 –> 1.50.

it looks like there very well might be a downgrader I can’t be positive but it looks promising. So I say this once you get your 1.5 back or 2.71 custom don’t upgrade your psp’s unless you don’t care about iso’s and homebrew and some bitching emulators like neo geo and capcom sytems. Having said that even if you have 2.82 or 3.0 I say still don’t update unless u have to they’re even talking about a possible exploit for 3.0 firmware

too bad for u guys i got 4 psps ^^ 1 bricked wen i tried using a downgrader for 2.00 way back bfore all these downgraders…(then i read that if i turn off the psp at 75% i could get the “embedded browser” being me i did this n bricked 1 of only psp….) 2 one ibought from this kid jus to play music on my field trip( i bought the psp but he kept his stuff a battery, back, n the sticker was off, and also the charger…. got home is doesnt work the screen is cracked and doesnt work) 3rd one the psp was got for free and downgraded 4th i bought from this kid for 100 bones and DOWNGRADED ^^ both custom and 1.5 ^^>>>> The Final cost 370 bones and thats not the end motherboard from broke on ebay and bricked for up modchip soon… keep up the good work people

not 2.81, 2.82, 3.00, 3.01, 3.02, or 3.03
Kernel mode apps are much better than user mode apps. like being able to use the ir port on the psp, and downgrading.

its not that simple
the programs like that need to be built around the exploit
they arent right now- and they need to be redone and rigorously tested for them to be re-released

its useless downloading this. you should wait tell a downgrader comes out and u have to extract the rar file using winrar [downloaded it from google ]
if you downloaded this and arent a programmer, delete it
this is for programmers to learn to make use of the kernal exploit, it is not for the normal homebrew user
