Chaos Zero has stepped up to the plate with a public apology for all the confusion caused with the fake TA-082 downgrader. I, for one, trust Chaos Zero and respect his contributions & loyalty towards the scene; especially helping those who need it most — the noobs. Here’s the apologetic excerpt:
On behalf of PSP-HaXors, I would personally like to apologize for the recent release of the fake TA-082 downgrader by dark_thug.
Once it was emailed to me, I was skeptical. The sizes of the so-called “.thug” files matched the sizes of the Official Sony 1.50 firmware eboot and 2.71 eboot files.
So instead of releasing a fake downgrader to the scene, I held on to it.
With no proof, I finally decided to get it tested in a live test.
Without a TA-082 PSP myself to test it, I gave it out to test to 3 people who asked for it.
When all three came back saying it worked, I released it, with the proper cautions.

Chaos is one of the most helpful non-devs in the scene. Yeah, he bricked his PSP, but it was for testing purposes which could help further the scene. He didn’t demand you pay for it. I’d say he deserves a new one. And yeah, he endorsed a fake downgrader, but he was the one getting played for a fool because he had the testers lie to him about it working.
So, to all the haters, please do one of three things:
Go dive down a well
Go play a DS.

Noobs hardly read any text. If they did they would no longer be noobs. That is why they always ask for help. They don’t want to learn anything, they just want info that someone else had to learn for them. I will not answer a post in a forum from a noob. Never! Our society watches far too much TV and reads far too few books, white papers, newspapers, or other types of written reference materials.
Choose a topic any one that you want. Without posting a single question you can find a forum somewhere that has the answer you are looking for. Music? Movies? TV’s? Cars? You bet, they all have their own forums and all of the answers are already out there. The PSP is no different!
I don’t know man, maybe it is Attention Deficit Disorder. They see TA-082 downgrader and that is all that they can focus on anymore so they stop reading the rest. I don’t know, I don’t care, and I will not help them!
Scroll down the page and look at the posts near the end by ToMeR. He spends so much time asking for help with Devhook on a COMMENT BOARD, not even a forum, that he could have found the answer to his question plus three more that he hasn’t thought of yet. Instead he just keeps cluttering this board with posts begging for help with a software problem.

CZ has not put a single second of time or a single line of code into the source of Devhook. He makes installers that allow ignorant PSP owners to remain ignorant in just a few easy steps. He has truly done nothing but help noobs to remain noobs.
Why don’t you take down the statue on your headboard and the poster on your bedroom wall of CZ and replace it with a statue and poster of Booster, a truly masterful coder and the real source of all of your PSP entertainment. “Booster is Devhook, Devhook is Booster.” (Repeat slowly 5 times and you should remember it by then)
Give credit where credit is due, not to CZ. Can’t you see what his attention starvation has caused? He now has people giving him credit for Devhook and it is not his. I do give CZ credit for attaching his name to something that is not his so effectively. That really does take skill!
I would forgive him but I don’t own a TA-082. I wasn’t scammed in the first place. It would be like forgiving him for lying to my neighbor when that is something that my neighbor needs to forgive him for. I wasn’t lied to so I don’t have anything to forgive him for.

i remember the disclaimers on the release. it hadnt been fully tested yet. i dont have a TA-082 luckily, but even so i would have waited before installing something like this until all the bugs were worked out and it became a known standard app in the homebrew community. all these people making a fuss with the developers and testers over this need to calm down and look at their own actions first. if you are going to to race towards the latest beta releases you should be aware of the risks involved.

lol two fakes, first ookm’s *uncomfirmed if worked and so it is considered fake* and now this. BTW Chaos did nothing wrong, he tested it with live subjects, he then took the word of said subjects since he could not do this to a psp of his own. all of the subjects reported that it had worked and so the logical conclusion would be that it was a working and great downgrader. And so he published it, nothing wrong with that, its just that if i were him i would find new more credible test subjects next time. Chaos keep up the good work and marry christmas bro.

Hey, CZ. Thanks for all you have done for the homebrew community. Thanks for the apology. I don’t even care what really happened behind the scenes, there were no bricks. I am not so emotionally frail to fly off the handle when my TA mobo doesnt downgrade. It never ceases to amaze me how people can take something so trivial and turn it into some horrendous episode, while ignoring the more important issues in life… I mean, come on people, no matter how 1337 t3h h4xx0r1ng, its still just an expensive toy. Be more grateful for things!!!!! Dont whine when you can’t downgrade, be glad you even HAVE a psp and people who devote their time to making your psp experience better, however they may do it (i.e. easy installers).
Chaos Zero should be apologizing for what he did. He released a supposed “miracle downgrader” for those in the community with TA-082 motherboards. It wasn’t any more than an untested and unproven fake. It also reduced the face value of his word.
Why should he apologize? That is easy, he released something that he himself could not test the authenticity of. He said that 3 people tested it for him. Fair enough, but next time try to use testers that can actually be trusted! Maybe somebody that is actually a developer or a friend. He needs to apologize to earn back some lost trust.
Many of the people with comments on this have either slammed CZ to the wall with hate speech, or kissed his a$$ to an almost revolting point. I mean I just puked in my mouth a little bit reading some of these comments worshiping a guy who releases installers. Extremely helpful installers, but that is really all that they are. Just plain and simple installers.
Some of you say that his installers are so helpful for the noobs that he is a hero. Maybe, but I personally think that “noob” is just word for someone who is too lazy to search the forums and educate themselves on the proper subject matter. They just simply ask for help. I mean read a forum sometime and see if you don’t get a migraine just from reading all of the post by people saying “I am just a noob, please help (me stay stupid). I need help.” Yeah, I spiced it up a little there but that is what it basically is.
I was once new to the scene too, but I was never a noob. I read many forums and amazingly all of the answers were right there in front of me. It was almost like magic. Creepy huh? Amazing what you can find just by reading. Try it sometime, noob!
On the other hand the people flaming him like he is an antichrist or something are just as bad. WTF did he do? He released a fake downgrader on bad information! Extremely poor testing and lack of good judgement? Sure! Bottom line though is no harm, no foul. A serious helping of egg on the face due to the fact that he should have done a lot more homework than he did before putting his name on it, but no more. At most he is an attention starved individual who contributes to a big part of the scenes stupidity by not leaving it to an individual become an informed member of the PSP world, instead doing it all for them.
