PSPGGO v1.01: GNU Go for the PSP
greg | December 17, 2006
ZX-81 droppin’ PSP ports like they’re hot with a brand new one for ya. Fans of GNU-Go who own a PSP will be highly appreciative of this release, that’s right, GNU-Go now on the PSP!

GNU Go is an ASCII command line game running on various platforms. PSPGGO is ported from GNU-Go v3.6, read more about it here. ZX-81 has stepped it up a notch by introducing his own graphical interface, as shown in the screen shot above.
Wikipedia explains Go’s concept best:
Go is played by alternately placing black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a 19×19 rectilinear grid. A stone or a group of stones is captured and removed if it is tightly surrounded by stones of the opposing color. The objective is to control a larger territory than the opponent by placing one’s stones so they cannot be captured. The game ends and the score is counted when both players consecutively pass on a turn, indicating that neither side can increase its territory or reduce its opponent’s; the game can also end by resignation.

I hope that there is an AI.
If not, this may not be worth my time.
*D/L’s*
W….T…..F?
…Ahhh! I get it.Its a game! =p
Before the bashing starts, let ZX-81 do his thang. He’s doing this not just for his own programming knowledge, but to let us all enjoy the classics, in a portable.
ZX, is this like mancala?
This is not like mancala, it’s a very old chinese board game.

If I wanted to pick my brain I would stay at the office longer, LOL. Just kidding people take it easy.
can you make this for adhoc mode?
Omg… I thank you so much!
I always waited for someone bringing go to the psp!
This is so great…
is it me or does this thing think more and more every turn.It Shouldn’t have to think too hard. i’m just randomly putting black dots everywhere
Probably having to think longer because you are not following any logical sequence.
o cool, i like playing Go lol, not too good at it, but i enjoy it from time to time.
GOGOGO! =p
Hey this is fun! ^_^
Very good!
Never played Go before…. Now I do not have an excuse ;-) Thanks very much indeed.
This game can be insanly challange.
There is a official level you can acquire from national leage. I heard it could take 20-30 years to get certain level certificate….
@all: thx :) … It’s a first release, many new features should come very soon :).
For those who don’t know how to play, here is a good web site to learn : http://playgo.to/interactive/

looks interesting, thanks ZX!
THANKS a LOT!
I’ve been waiting for this for a long time!
Only little “problem” is the computer thinks too much on 19×19 even though he could abandon^^.
I hope there will be an sgf reader/editor soon as well, unless anyone knows one for psp?
@BenThunder:
Yes, it will be fixed in the next release …
I’ve added a new option to change the computer level (with a low level, it takes less time between each turn).
Sgf support is also in my to-do list :)

Thanks a lot! I’ve just recently spent a couple of days searching for a way to play go on a psp - and with no luck whatsoever.
I am uber!
Unzip the file, got a src folder as well.
What’s it for?
THKS
@lougwan: the src folder is the source code, so it’s for coder / developers only … just ignore this folder
